BRRRING BRRRING!
Having switched to a new bed that was over two meters wide, Chu Tian was sleeping soundly when the relentless ringing of the phone woke him up.
"Hello, who is it?"
"It's me, Xu Qingqiu. Where are you?"
"Ah? Oh! I'm at home. What's up?"
"..."
Listening to the deep breathing on the other end of the phone, Chu Tian immediately sensed that something wasn't quite right.
What's going on? I've got a chill running down my spine.
Luckily, the person on the other end spoke again, though her tone wasn't exactly pleasant.
"Come to the studio. I need to talk to you."
Hearing the dial tone, Chu Tian's puzzled expression slowly faded. He glanced at his phone; it was already past eleven. No wonder. He had been late quite often lately.
It wasn't entirely his fault, though. After moving yesterday, there was so much to tidy up. He had worked until after two in the morning and, as a result, hadn't woken up on time.
Dwelling on it wouldn't help. He'd better hurry, wash up, and head out.
Meanwhile, Xu Qingqiu stood outside the small house where Chu Tian used to live, her expression grim. A pile of things lay on the ground, looking utterly out of place.
She could have rested for a night after finishing the show and returned the next day. However, since she hadn't contacted Chu Tian recently, she felt a bit uneasy. This was especially true since the finals of "King of Mask Singer" were approaching, and she needed to prepare her songs.
Therefore, she took a flight back that very evening. Bringing gifts she had bought, she excitedly went to Chu Tian's house, intending to give him a surprise.
However, when she arrived, she found the place empty. She thought he might have gone to the company, but he wasn't there either.
Could he have gone for a morning run? Or maybe out for breakfast? Or was he simply not up yet?
She decided to wait a bit longer, but even after more than two hours, there was still no sign of him.
It looked like the surprise was off. She had no choice but to call him, only to hear Chu Tian claim he was at home. Which home?
Xu Qingqiu felt a wave of ill will wash over her. What infuriated her most was his deceit.
Fuming, Xu Qingqiu kicked the door. She then slowly gathered the items from the ground, put them back into her car, and headed to the studio.
"When did you guys get back?"
Chu Tian hurried into the studio and went straight to the office. He saw Xu Qingqiu and Yiyi eating snacks and asked with a smile.
"HUMPH."
"..."
Xu Qingqiu looked up at him, rolled her eyes, and continued eating. Yiyi even turned around to snort at him.
"No, seriously, what's going on? Why the cold shoulder? So I was a little late..."
Xu Qingqiu showed no interest in talking to him, but Yiyi couldn't hold back and asked indignantly, "You call that being late? You didn't even plan on coming, did you? Tell me! Where were you last night?"
"Where was I last night? I was at home. Where else could I have been?"
Chu Tian was completely baffled. Where is all this anger coming from?
"You're lying! Sister Qiu went to your place early this morning, waited at your doorstep with a ton of gifts for you, and you weren't even home! Men! You're all the same!"
After hearing Yiyi's words, Chu Tian finally understood the source of the misunderstanding. This is a huge mix-up.
He turned to Xu Qingqiu and cautiously asked, "You went to my house?"
Xu Qingqiu didn't want to talk to him. She was still furious but felt it wasn't right to lash out. Her heart just felt cold—utterly cold. However, despite her coldness, a glimpse of Chu Tian's face in her peripheral vision inexplicably softened her heart.
She held back for a long time but ultimately couldn't keep it in. Sighing, she pointed towards the wall without looking back and said, "Look, those things on the floor are for you. Take them yourself!"
After speaking, she lowered her head and resumed eating her snacks, clearly having no intention of saying anything more.
Even if Chu Tian was a bit dense, he understood why she was upset. However, he didn't know what to say and could only glance awkwardly at the gifts on the floor.
Most of them were food items, like Dragon's beard candy, savory pressed duck, and pork jerky.
Although he wasn't fond of snacks and desserts, she had gone to the trouble of buying them for him from afar. The sentiment alone was more valuable than anything; it was hard not to appreciate it.
"Wow, so much stuff! This will last me a long time. Did you pick all this out yourself?"
"Hey, there's savory pressed duck too! This is great; I haven't had this in ages."
"They have Dragon's beard candy in Star City too? It looks good. And this pork jerky is great. It's perfect for when I get hungry at work."
Chu Tian commented on each item. Regardless, praising them first was the right move.
Finally, under his stream of compliments, Xu Qingqiu's anger inexplicably dissipated, and she even joined in the conversation.
"Exactly! I went to two different streets and waited in line to buy these. The people there said their pork jerky is the best."
"Really? Did you give all of it to me?"
"How could that be? Of course, I kept some for myself. What were you thinking?"
Seeing her earnest expression, Chu Tian knew she had likely calmed down, but that wasn't enough. He suddenly pulled a car key with a blue ornament from one of the bags and asked with a smile, "So, is this a local specialty too?"
"Huh? That's not a specialty. That's for you."
"For me? What do you mean?"
Chu Tian had originally intended to tease her about carelessly tossing the car key in with the gifts. He hadn't expected her answer to be completely different from what he imagined.
This car key is for me? Why? His mind went blank for a moment.
"It's nothing much, really. It's just for you. You don't have a car, do you? You can drive this one for now. It'll be more convenient for you to get around."
Xu Qingqiu finished speaking, but Chu Tian was still processing. Yiyi, however, couldn't hold back any longer and exclaimed excitedly, "We got a new car! So, the old one is for you. How about that? Happy?"
In Yiyi's mind, although Chu Tian was earning over twenty thousand a month, she knew Xu Qingqiu was giving him this salary specially. Furthermore, she believed that Chu Tian would eventually be with Sister Qiu. While it wasn't necessary for him to earn a lot of money, he should at least have his own house, right? It didn't need to be big; it was more of a formality, and it was for Chu Tian's own good. Because if they really got married, Xu Qingqiu could easily afford several houses. But if Chu Tian didn't have one of his own, others might look down on him. So, the best solution was for Chu Tian to buy a house himself. The size and location didn't matter; it was mainly for appearances. Of course, it was also to satisfy Xu Qingqiu's family. But houses are expensive. To protect Chu Tian's pride, Xu Qingqiu couldn't just give him money directly. She could only pay him a salary, which meant it was uncertain how long it would take him to save enough. Having a house but no car wouldn't be ideal either. And it would be too wasteful for Chu Tian to buy a car himself. So, in Yiyi's view, giving him the old one was the best outcome.
Of course, Xu Qingqiu secretly felt the same way. She wanted to be with Chu Tian and also wanted to protect his pride as much as possible. This was the only way she could think of.
Chu Tian hadn't thought that far ahead, but he could sense that Xu Qingqiu and Yiyi genuinely wanted him to have the old car.
Perhaps in their eyes, I'm still that ordinary guy without much money?
Thinking this, Chu Tian couldn't help but give a wry smile, but he accepted it gladly nonetheless.
He happened to need a car for commuting. Although it was old, it carried Xu Qingqiu's feelings, making it more meaningful than a new one.
"Thank you, I really like it!"
