Cultivating Through The Game

Chapter 73: Yu Xiaoman's Time (2)

Not sure if it's because Yu Xiaoman doesn't want to encounter monsters, but on their journey, they haven't seen a single monster. The closest moment, Lu Yu felt the monster's aura just two or three hundred meters away, yet didn't see any monster appear in front of him.

They have already ventured deep into Kugu Ridge, and after walking for half a day without seeing a monster, they did encounter plenty of skeletons by the roadside; at first, Yu Xiaoman felt a bit uncomfortable, but after seeing more, she got used to it.

She curiously asked, "What do monsters look like? Are they scary?"

After walking for so long without seeing a single monster, her curiosity about monsters grew. After all, she was an ordinary person who had never seen a real monster, so it's natural to be curious.

"Monsters?" Lu Yu thought for a moment and said, "They look somewhat like animals! But some monsters also resemble humans."

Lu Yu had only seen two kinds of monsters: Wind Rock Demons and Fire Spirits.

Demons don't count as monsters; demons are demons, and monsters are monsters. There is a significant difference between the two.

"Some look like animals, some like humans?" Yu Xiaoman imagined, "Could monsters turn into handsome men or beautiful women?"

"I don't know, never seen it."

Lu Yu had read information about it in the introductory text on formations; it seems that monsters need to condense a Demon Core before they can transform into human form, which belongs to a category of high-level monsters Lu Yu had not yet encountered.

"Wow~ such a cute little white rabbit." Yu Xiaoman suddenly exclaimed and ran toward a fluffy white little rabbit by the roadside.

Lu Yu looked at her speechlessly. When you don't want to see monsters, not one shows up; when you do want to see them, they come without any effort.

Seeing her trying to hug the monster with the rabbit form, Lu Yu quickly tugged at her collar, "Are you stupid? How could a normal animal be in such a place? Obviously, it's a monster."

"But it looks so cute," Yu Xiaoman realized her mistake and said softly.

"What good is being cute? Now, do you think it looks even cuter?"

Lu Yu reached toward the monster, and the monster in rabbit form rapidly expanded, a large mouth with three cleft lips opened, intending to swallow Lu Yu whole.

Yu Xiaoman could clearly see that the monster's mouth was full of row upon row of reverse teeth, which would shred prey like a blender once bitten.

Her face turned pale with fright.

Lu Yu's fist trembled, his Qi Blood exploded, and the monster trying to swallow him was blown apart with one punch.

He took out a piece of paper to wipe the saliva off his fist, thinking: I should have used a bit of Spiritual Qi; even got saliva on my hand.

Looking at the broken limb remains on the ground, Lu Yu smiled, "Look, now that's a real cute monster!"

After hearing his words and seeing his smile, Yu Xiaoman instinctively took two steps back, distancing herself from Lu Yu, who now resembled someone who was excited after brutally killing small animals.

After the terrifying incident with the monster that appeared to be a rabbit but was actually some unknown ghost type, Yu Xiaoman no longer wished to encounter any monsters, and so on their journey, they encountered no new monsters.

Until they found Yang Xiu.

Lu Yu and Yu Xiaoman stood behind a rock, watching the Beifeng Academy students battling monsters in the valley below, with Yang Xiu among them, seeming to lead the charge against the monster.

The Beifeng Academy students were besieging a Black Bear Demon. The Black Bear Demon's massive size was like a small mountain, and its bear paw strikes on the ground made it difficult for anyone nearby to stand firm, illustrating its powerful strength.

No one dared to face it head-on. The group used hit-and-run tactics, continuously depleting the Black Bear Demon's Demonic Power, and sought opportunities to attack its weak points to finish it off.

Lu Yu watched the battle below, calculating his chances of defeating the Black Bear Demon.

The Black Bear Demon was the typical strength-type monster; tackling it head-on was the most foolish thing unless you could surpass it in strength. He estimated that his explosive force when using the Sky Collapse technique was comparable to if not stronger than the normal state power of the Black Bear Demon.

Roar~ with demonic aura shaking, a ball of demonic aura appeared in the Black Bear Demon's palm as it slammed its palms into the ground, and cracks spread from it as the center to the surrounding Martial Cultivators.

The entire valley shook, and Yu Xiaoman held onto the rock to avoid falling; the Martial Cultivators in the valley were even more affected, with some students being knocked down by the cracks and struck by the Black Bear Demon, their fate unknown.

"Yang Xiu, let's retreat! This Black Bear Demon has probably cultivated to the peak of the low Qi Cultivation stage; we can't match it." Seeing the others getting hit, one student said.

Yang Xiu didn't even glance at the fallen ones, saying, "Its recent attack consumed a lot of Demonic Power; now's the time to kill it!"

Saying that, he took the lead, charging out with a red long sword. Infused with Spiritual Power, the red long sword in Yang Xiu's hand ignited in flames, and with one slash, he left a charred sword mark on the Black Bear Demon's shoulder.

Yang Xiu circled the Black Bear Demon, dodging its attacks while leaving scorched marks on the Black Bear Demon with his Red Fire Sword, making the Black Bear Demon howl in pain, its eyes turning red with rage and losing reason.

The Red Fire Sword didn't deal much damage to the Black Bear Demon; the burned flesh was only a small part compared to its massive body, not heavily injured, but painful enough to make it lose its mind, thinking only of crushing the human causing it pain.

Roar~ the Black Bear Demon roared, its demonic aura vibrating around it, and Yang Xiu's movement slowed visibly. The Black Bear Demon's eyes flared with anger, intending to smash Yang Xiu with a palm filled with demonic aura.

Yet, the Black Bear Demon's recent power had shaken the entire valley, creating palm-width cracks on the ground. If Yang Xiu got hit, the outcome would be very grim.

Yang Xiu's lips curled into a smile; he deliberately pretended to be affected in speed to lure out the Black Bear Demon's skill and drain its Demonic Power.

Seeing the bear paw descending, Yang Xiu used a Body Technique to escape the Black Bear Demon's attack range.

Just then, a stone with no visible trajectory hit Yang Xiu's head, causing his movements to pause momentarily, and the Black Bear Demon's palm landed on Yang Xiu.

Crack~ a flash of golden light appeared on Yang Xiu's body, his whole being smacked into the ground by the Black Bear Demon, leaving a deep pit.

The Black Bear Demon wiped out Yang Xiu in one move, avenging its hatred, then regained sanity. Seeing the humans intimidated by its strength, it promptly fled deeper into Kugu Ridge on all fours.

"Master, did the stone I threw just now hit anyone?"

Yu Xiaoman turned to look below, not seeing the student with the red long sword. She was puzzled; why did Lu Yu suddenly ask her to turn and throw a stone backward, while thinking about the target being the student holding the red long sword in her mind?

She thought it was just a small stone, wouldn't matter if it hit someone, so she did as told, but after turning, she noticed the student with the red long sword was gone.

Lu Yu gave her a thumbs up, "Well done!"

Yu Xiaoman was confused about what she had done.

Ling Yuyan furrowed her brows for the second time, having seen everything that just happened clearly, hearing even what Lu Yu said.

Restraining her impulse to kick Lu Yu out of Kugu Ridge, Ling Yuyan reminded herself it was trial time; she couldn't break the rules by interfering with the students' fights.

Although Lu Yu wasn't a Beifeng Academy student, Yu Xiaoman was.

After throwing Lu Yu out of Kugu Ridge, Yu Xiaoman would be in danger without a protector while going deeper into Kugu Ridge, and Ling Yuyan didn't want her to be in such peril, so Lu Yu had to stay by her side.

If she intervened to extricate Yu Xiaoman from Kugu Ridge, it would violate the rules and nullify Yu Xiaoman's trial results.

The trial results determined the resources students could receive, and Ling Yuyan certainly didn't want Yu Xiaoman's results nullified.

Now she regretted not kicking Lu Yu out when they were at the outskirts of Kugu Ridge.
