Chapter 1141: The Hunter and the Hunted

Logically speaking, the best way for Sheyan to fight against Veron was not with this kind of guerilla tactic.

The most efficient method was to take one or two of Veron’s high-energy plasma shots and after closing in on Veron, judge him as a heathen and hack away at him with ‘+13 West’ for the next five seconds, and finally finish the combo with ‘Beast of Corrosion’.

If this entire combo was unleashed on one of Veron’s legs, he would inevitably become a cripple. There were many ways to deal with a Veron who had lost almost all mobility.

The reason Sheyan gave up on the chance for a surprise strike and instead lured the enemy deep into the woods was because he did not want his trump cards to be seen by others.

At this moment, Sheyan could trust no one else but the powerful weapon in his hand, ‘+13 West’, which stats were comparable to a godly equipment!

It was not clear who was going to get their blood on this weapon. It may be the blood of a Predator, or it may be the blood of a contestant.

They would bleed as long as they dared to get in Sheyan’s way!

A few seconds after Sheyan started his fight, Ronnie had already placed the ‘Mark of Death’ on top of one of the Predator’s head, while Aldaris had beckoned with his finger at another. At the same time, a drop of blood slipped from his fingertip and fell onto the grass on the ground. The drop of blood did not disperse and stayed there as if it was a ruby.

All the 1v1 fights had begun!

***

Veron, who was not there, naturally did not know this. He was still frantically chasing after Sheyan. The Predator had very strong jumping power, and when he was in full pursuit, he possessed the grace of a jumping antelope. With every step, he would bend his knees to accumulate strength and leap at least ten meters away. At this rate, Sheyan would be caught up in no time at all.

However, even though Elite Predator Veron possessed a great amount of fighting experience, Sheyan had also survived up to this point by killing his way through blood and fire.

To deal with the long distance covered by of each of Veron’s leap, Sheyan adopted the method of immediately changing the direction of his sprint the moment Veron took off, so that when Veron landed, Sheyan was already a distance away in a different direction, thus deviating from Veron’s path.

Seeing this, Veron immediately changed his tactic. When he reached the highest point in his jump, he suddenly reached to his waist and took a disc in his palm. Veron touched the disc lightly and five sharp blades immediately extended off the edge! With a flick of Veron’s wrist, the shuriken flew away with a terrible hiss. It whirled in the air in an odd sinusoidal arc towards Sheyan!

In Veron’s plan, the shuriken would cut through the enemy’s path, so if the enemy did not stop, he would end up being cut in half.

But Sheyan reacted astonishingly quick. He reached out his palm and grabbed the shuriken. Veron could clearly see blood spraying out, but the shuriken also ended up succumbing to Sheyan’s palm after struggling for a while.

Veron’s eyes almost popped out, but he quickly saw the metal gloves Sheyan was wearing. Veron believed that the gloves must be the main reason why his shuriken that could cut through anything could be grabbed by the human. Therefore, he took out another shuriken that looked the exact same but was intrinsically different and aimed it at Sheyan again.

The primary function of the original shuriken was cutting, but the one thrown now was filled with 178 grams of high-energy annihilation particle explosive, which was usually used against Xenomorph queens. If the human dared to grab it with his hand again, he would surely turn into a grand firework display, unless he was actually stronger than a Xenomorph queen.

But Sheyan’s powerful Perception Sense came to his aid. As soon as the explosive shuriken made its appearance, it gave him a sense of danger much stronger than the shuriken before. Something must be wrong with Sheyan’s brain if he still used his hand to grab it after that.

A huge explosion erupted next to Sheyan, and the strong resulting shockwave actually propelled Sheyan forward and helped him run away faster.

Next, Elite Predator Veron used a variety of attacks in his disposal such as mini flying forks and the all-titanium hunting net, but the results were very unsatisfactory.

The mini flying forks were a kind of weapon which combined speed with precision, but their power and quantity were limited.

As for the net… If it was the kind of tough, sticky net like a spider web, Sheyan would really have a headache, but it was an all-titanium hunting net, which Sheyan easily tore apart with his powerful gloves.

Seeing that Sheyan was about to step into the forest, Veron started getting more ruthless. This human was already so slippery on the open ground, so wouldn’t he be even more difficult to catch once he entered the forest? They were both sprinting at the moment, so it was almost impossible to hit the target with the the shoulder cannon. Veron’s gaze turned colder. He pulled out a steel pipe about a foot long and as thick as an egg from behind his back.

The surface of the pipe was carved with patterns. It was reddish-brown in colour, like the colour of dried blood. Its colour and the patterns on it gave it the feel of a torture device used in Inquisitions.

Veron triggered a mechanism and, with a hard flick and a soft click, the “pipe” extended into a brownish-red spear. From the looks of it, the spear seemed incomparably sharp!

Veron’s soul seemed to burn when he held the spear. He inexplicably stopped and stood quietly in place, looking both pious and sacred. Ahead of him, Sheyan continued rapidly distancing himself!

Veron threw the hunting spear in his hand.

The bright light almost blinded Sheyan’s eyes when he turned back to look. He instantly felt a great sense of danger. Suddenly, a cool sensation penetrated his chest. By the time he realised it, he had been pierced through by the spear and was being flung away!

“Such speed….and power!!” Sheyan realised with a jolt that he might have underestimated the enemy! Hiding one’s strength was no big deal, but if he was killed before he could go all out because he attempted to hide his strength, that would definitely not be worth it!

The spear had a minor but clear tremor which made Sheyan feel numb. Predators did not deign to apply poison to their weapons, so it was clearly a technique in using the weapon.

Fortunately, Sheyan’s strong Physique showed its worth. He gritted his teeth and looked back, then stumbled into the forest by borrowing the momentum from the spear. This caused the following high-energy plasma shot from Veron to miss its target! As far as Veron could recall, no creature had been able to continue moving after being hit by his spear before!

When he saw Sheyan succeeding in escaping into the woods, he made a snake-like hiss in his throat and became more cautious. He pressed a few times on his left hand to activate his stealth device, and his figure vanished into thin air. However, at this moment, Veron was feeling an excitement he had not felt for a long time.

How long had it been since the last time he had to go all out? Ten years? Twenty? This excitement, the feeling of cutting off the head of the prey later, the feeling of warm blood flowing through his fingers…. It was an excitement which reminded him of the last time he mated with a female Predator. The thrill! The pleasure!

(Note: The Predator society is matrilineal. Female Predators are lower in numbers and are more powerful. Only about a third of the stronger Predators can mate with the females and produce offsprings. A female Predator will bear children for about five different male Predators in her lifetime.)

Veron was a master in tracking, and the enemy was also badly wounded by the spear, so the trail of blood he left behind clearly sold him out. There was no way the enemy could escape from Veron. However, he simply could not forget the look in the enemy’s eyes right before running into the forest!

He had never seen a prey that had such eyes in this sort of predicament!

Those steady eyes!

Those calm eyes!

As he was thinking about this, he saw a glimpse of the prey again. The man was leaning on a tree and had his side to Veron. Veron could not see his expression clearly. He could only see that the man’s chest was rising and falling rapidly. He seemed to be suffering from heavy blood loss and severe pain. Veron’s hunting spear had been pulled out and the now bloody spear was placed on the side. The man’s strength had obviously been depleted; his hands hung weakly on both sides and he looked like he was close to dying.

When Veron saw this, he instantly became less worried. He stared at his prey’s feet and started to move slowly towards the top of the tree which the prey was leaning against. He would lasso the prey’s feet with a rope and hung him upside down. Next, he would cut the man’s throat and peel his skin.

Veron slowly approached the target, his powerful equipment filtering out all the noises. At this moment, he had fully become a ghost from the underworld that was about to lead his prey to the kingdom of death.
