My Girlfriend is the Nether King

Chapter 444: 049 My Girlfriend is the Nether King

The night was deep.

In the Netherworld, Netherworld City.

After receiving the summons from the Dark Law King, the other four still-living Law Kings hurried to the Nether King Palace by night. Although they did not know why they were summoned, each Law King had already prepared for the worst—that King Mieji might have perished at the hands of Chen Hao.

If it were not so, why would the Dark Law King call for a meeting in such haste? Moreover, the scenario felt eerily familiar: when King Ning and King Xin had died, it had also been in the dead of night that the Dark Law King urgently called everyone together.

Compared to the deaths of King Ning and King Xin, the four Law Kings were now noticeably more composed. For one, King Mieji had always been arrogant, treating others superficially well while looking down on everyone, making him less popular among the Eight Great Law Kings; on the other hand, the successive defeats of Law Kings at Chen Hao's hands demonstrated his extraordinary strength, which had deflated the pride of several Law Kings.

Even King Shuanglin, who was usually impulsive, wouldn't rashly seek revenge against Chen Hao as before. Being the third in rank among the Law Kings, his strength was not much different from that of the fourth-ranked King Mieji. If Chen Hao had indeed killed King Mieji as he suspected, it also meant that Chen Hao was capable of defeating him. Thus, he had to confirm at the Nether King Palace whether Chen Hao had indeed slain King Mieji.

If that was indeed the case, King Shuanglin felt it was necessary to reassess Chen Hao's capabilities.

In stark contrast to King Shuanglin's calmness, King Qingyu, who ranked seventh among the Law Kings, was the opposite. He sat hunched in his sedan, supporting his cheek with his left hand, deep in thought, his eyebrows tightly furrowed between his eyes. His dominion, the Land of King Qingyu, bordered that of King Mieji; therefore, it was likely that Chen Hao would target him next.

Anxiously, he thought that if Chen Hao had truly defeated the former war deity King Mieji, then overcoming him would be no great feat. He had to contemplate ways to deal with Chen Hao and prepare for the confrontation in advance.

Compared to King Shuanglin and King Qingyu, King Wumeng appeared much more laid-back, sitting inside his sedan with his eyes closed, resting his mind and thinking of nothing. In fact, he hoped that Chen Hao had killed King Mieji and would soon eliminate King Shuanglin as well. In his view, among the eight Law Kings, the excessively proud King Mieji and the hot-tempered King Shuanglin were nothing but brash fools who looked down on others, akin to pig-headed allies. Their deaths would not be a loss but rather cause for celebration.

From the east, south, west, and north, the four surviving Law Kings, excluding the Dark Law King, approached the Nether King Palace from different directions in their sedans.

"Dong, dong, dong!" Just then, the death knell of Netherworld City tolled.

Though they had anticipated this, the sound of the death knell made the four Law Kings shudder, and almost simultaneously, they each let out a sigh of lament from within their sedans.

A quarter of an hour later, the four Law Kings arrived one after another at the gates of the Nether King Palace. King Qingyu and King Shuanglin were the first to arrive; however, they did not rush into the palace but stood at the gate waiting for the other two Law Kings. After exchanging a glance, they both smiled but did not engage in any conversation.

King Shuanglin's silence was because of his disdain for King Qingyu, while King Qingyu's silence stemmed from his own feelings of inferiority, not daring to speak to King Shuanglin.

Several minutes later, another sedan arrived, and King Wumeng emerged from within. He, who had been sitting leisurely in the sedan, immediately displayed a sorrowful expression upon alighting, his face reflecting the deep grief in his heart for King Mieji's passing.

"Did you all hear the bell tolling just now?" King Wumeng approached King Shuanglin and King Qingyu and asked, a mourning countenance on his face, "Could it be the fourth brother, King Mieji, he…"

As he spoke, King Wumeng choked up.

"King Wumeng, try not to be too distressed. There was indeed the sound of a funeral bell tolling, but it might not be what you're thinking," King Qingyu stepped forward, taking King Wumeng by the hand as he talked. Amongst the Eight Great Law Kings, the only one he dared to approach and interact with was King Wumeng. He had always received courtesy from King Ning too, but there was always a pressing look in King Ning's eyes when he observed others, as if he could see right through their hearts, causing King Qingyu to feel somewhat intimidated by him.

"Yes," King Wumeng, holding King Qingyu's hand and nodding, burst into tears.

Seeing this, King Shuanglin standing to the side, humphed with disdain. He wanted to say something mocking, but swallowed his words at the last moment. He thought to himself that three of the Eight Great Law Kings were already gone, and they should not risk splintering their unity for a moment of satisfaction.

King Wumeng was somewhat shocked to see King Shuanglin holding his tongue, as he was so used to hearing him hurl insults that he felt uncomfortable when he didn't.

Just then, two shadows, elongated by the candlelight of the Nether King Palace, reached the feet of the three men from the doorway. The three turned around and saw Zhao Chong and Qian Feng walking side by side out of the entrance of the Nether King Palace.

King Shuanglin snorted angrily, "Here they come again to weep like hypocrites!"

"Calm down, brother three," King Wumeng advised King Shuanglin.

King Shuanglin shot a glare at King Wumeng and then spoke impatiently, "I know, I know!"

When Zhao Chong and Qian Feng approached them, King Wumeng's expression abruptly shifted to a smile as he said, "Clan Leaders, what brings you to the Nether King Palace so late at night?"

As he spoke, King Wumeng's eyes continuously gauged King Shuanglin's expression, fearing that King Shuanglin would lose his temper and provoke a conflict between the two sides. However, to his surprise, King Shuanglin, despite his grim expression, was breathing calmly, showing no sign of anger.

"Are the three of you unaware?" Qian Feng asked with feigned astonishment, his eyes still hollow. After a pause, his face suddenly darkened, and he spoke in a low tone, "King Mieji has been killed by Chen Hao. Upon hearing the news, Clan Leader Zhao and I hurried over to express our sorrow and condolences to the Dark Law King. We hope the three Law Kings will restrain their grief."

"Hmph!" King Shuanglin snorted coldly, "The Dark Law King always had one flaw, whenever he is overwhelmed by grief, he tends to forget things, like ordering someone to ring the death knell. We all heard the bell toll just now; it seems we have to thank the two of you for your kind reminder."

Hearing King Shuanglin's sarcastic retort to Qian Feng and Zhao Chong's schadenfreude, King Wumeng, who had been worried he would lash out verbally, breathed a sigh of relief and looked at King Shuanglin with newfound respect and shining eyes.

After Zhao Chong and Qian Feng had left, King Shuanglin suddenly moved between King Qingyu and King Wumeng, raising his hands and patting their shoulders as he said, "Old Six, Old Seven, now there are only five of us left among the Eight Great Law Kings. The Ghost King's time of emergence is unknown, and I've heard that the Eight Great Clans are all secretly gathering forces and hoarding supplies. It seems inevitable that a great battle is upon us, and we must work together with united hearts!"

King Wumeng and King Qingyu turned to look at King Shuanglin, unable to believe that such words were coming from him. Suddenly, they both sensed an air of commanding presence emanating from King Shuanglin.

..

The mortal world.

Mount Soul Sever.

Last night, after defeating King Mieji, and considering the nearest town was at least an eight-hour drive away, Chen Hao and his group decided to pitch tents and spend the night on Mount Soul Sever.

In the morning, the mountain was shrouded in dense fog.

Due to the dampness, Chen Hao and his companions rose early,

After packing up the tents, Ye Yuqiao suddenly pulled Chen Hao aside, her expression tense, and said, "Boyfriend, should we really tell them about my identity as the Nether King later?"

Chen Hao's eyes widened as he said, "Girlfriend, why are you so nervous? If you don't want to tell them, then we won't tell them, okay?"

"Mmm!" Ye Yuqiao nodded, shaking Chen Hao's arm as if coquettishly, then buried her head in his chest and said, "Don't ask me, you're my boyfriend; you make the decision."

"Alright, alright, alright!" Chen Hao said with a smile.

Then, holding Ye Yuqiao's hand, Chen Hao approached Tang Jing and Xie Xiaofeng from behind. The two were just storing the packed tents back into the Exorcism Special Vehicle's trunk.

After closing the trunk door, Xie Xiaofeng and Tang Jing turned around and were startled to find Chen Hao and Ye Yuqiao had already made their way behind them.

"Damn! Yuqiao, why are you two standing behind us silently, you scared me to death!" Tang Jing complained while continuously patting her chest.

Immediately after, Ye Yuqiao bowed her head, while an awkward smile crossed Chen Hao's face.

"What's up? Do you two have something to tell us?" Xie Xiaofeng asked, puzzled.

Chen Hao nodded and said, "It's about something concerning Yuqiao, and I think it's time we told you."

"Ah!" Tang Jing and Xie Xiaofeng gasped in surprise, exchanging glances. At that moment, Ye Yuqiao clung tightly to Chen Hao's left arm, pressing close like a child who had made a mistake.

"What is it?" Tang Jing asked, her tone and expression very cautious.

"Ah!" Chen Hao let out a shriek, his expression pained, because Ye Yuqiao had suddenly pinched his arm hard.

Chen Hao stepped forward and then motioned for Xie Xiaofeng and Tang Jing to lean in, whispering into their ears, "The truth is, Yuqiao's real identity is the Fourth Generation Underworld King of the Netherworld."

"I'm not joking with you!" Chen Hao added with emphasis.

After speaking, Chen Hao watched Tang Jing and Xie Xiaofeng's faces closely.

A minute went by before Xie Xiaofeng and Tang Jing came back to their senses. They first exchanged incredulous looks, then both gazed at Ye Yuqiao before turning to Chen Hao in astonishment and asking, "Damn it, are you sure you're not joking with us?"

Chen Hao nodded, his expression dead serious.

Afterward, Tang Jing and Xie Xiaofeng exchanged looks again, and after a while, Xie Xiaofeng said, "I was wondering why Yuqiao knew so much about the Netherworld. So she is..."

Xie Xiaofeng didn't finish his sentence, still not daring to utter the words 'Underworld King.' In his imagination, the Underworld King was a man with a frightful face, full of beard, snorting and glaring.

Tang Jing twisted her mouth, then sputtered, "You're saying Yuqiao is the Nether King, so that means your girlfriend, you jerk, is the Nether King!"

Chen Hao nodded and laughed, saying, "That's right, my girlfriend is the Nether King!"
