Seeing a blade that looked the same as the one he carried—a dagger of the Ancestor of the Nether King, which was twice as large in size and length—Chen Hao was dumbfounded, his gaze fixed intently on the waist of Lin Mo's Yin Soul.
"Could the knife on his waist be the main dagger of the Ancestor of the Nether King?" Chen Hao speculated in his heart.
"What are you looking at?" Lin Huashan asked Chen Hao with a puzzled face.
Chen Hao came to his senses, his face full of surprise. After a bitter smile, as he stood up, he said, "Miss Huashan, it's getting late. I should go back to see the City Lord."
"Why would you go back to see that bad person? I've already told you so much, do you really want to go and get yourself killed?" Lin Huashan said, her brows tightly furrowed, looking both disappointed and angry.
Chen Hao shrugged his shoulders and, after a deep sigh, explained to Lin Huashan, "I never planned to look for the Sand Demon, so I'm not going to get myself killed; as for why I have to see the City Lord, because he provides my food, shelter, and clothing. If you're willing to take care of my living, I can stay at your place, too!"
As he spoke, a sly smile involuntarily appeared on Chen Hao's face.
Seeing the sly smile on Chen Hao's face, Lin Huashan felt he was frivolous, her face turned angry, and she huffed before giving Chen Hao the order to leave, saying, "You can tell you're no good, get out of my house!"
Chen Hao didn't resist but allowed himself to be pushed out of the house by Lin Huashan with a smile, thinking that Miss Huashan was naively kind yet adorably quick-tempered.
After being pushed outside the door, a gust of wind suddenly whooshed by Chen Hao's ears, tearing at his clothes like several invisible hands. Hearing a faint hissing sound coming from behind him to his left, Chen Hao's brows instantly became vigilant. He then slightly tilted his head to the left and scanned the area behind him out of the corner of his eye.
Behind the side wall of an earthen house, Chen Hao saw two dark heads, and underneath those, two blurry faces. Though far away, Chen Hao could still see the sharp glint in the eyes on those faces.
Chen Hao immediately realized that he was being followed. As for who sent them, he didn't need to think twice; Liu Xuan's image popped into his mind. This made him internally reflect, Liu Xuan really was as Lin Huashan said, not a simple fellow.
Thinking of what Liu Xuan had said to him that morning, Chen Hao silently lamented, pondering how a villain could speak such philosophical words?
"Your moment in the eyes, a millennium in the eyes of others!" Chen Hao thought of this phrase again, feeling as if there was a secret hidden within it.
"What are you thinking about now?" Lin Huashan's voice suddenly interrupted Chen Hao's thoughts. Compared to when she had driven Chen Hao out of the house, her voice was now gentle and childlike. "You better get going!"
Chen Hao looked at Lin Huashan and smiled slightly, then moved closer to her, scaring Lin Huashan, who quickly retreated inside the house.
"What do you want to do?" Lin Huashan said in a hurried tone, looking very flustered.
"Can you not think of me as a bad person?" Chen Hao said helplessly with a smile, while he raised his hand to pinch Lin Huashan's tender face. Ignoring Lin Huashan's hands desperately slapping his, he lowered his voice and whispered, "Miss Huashan, thank you for your kindness. Don't worry, I won't fall for that bad guy's tricks. And, I promise you, I will help you escape this city and have a carefree life in the future."
Hearing Chen Hao say this, Lin Huashan suddenly stopped, her eyes brimming with tears.
"You go ahead," Chen Hao let go of Lin Huashan's cheek and turned to leave, leaving behind a word of caution, "Remember to be careful!"
After leaving the Lin residence, Chen Hao wandered alone around Yanluo City until nearly nightfall before returning to the main tower in the city.
Liu Xuan had prepared a table of good food and drinks, and after taking his seat, Chen Hao began to wolf down the meal without any reserve.
During the meal, Liu Xuan made some polite conversation and casually inquired about Chen Hao's afternoon excursion around the city, but did not say much else. He did not seem eager to ask if Chen Hao had any plans to deal with the Sandrock Demon, nor did he ask about the encounter with Lin Huashan. Instead, he sat to the side, watching Chen Hao eat with great interest. The more nonchalant he seemed, the more Chen Hao believed what Huashan had said.
As the night deepened, and after a hearty meal, Liu Xuan instructed a maidservant to lead Chen Hao to his guest room for rest. Before parting, Liu Xuan hinted that the maidservant would be Chen Hao's for the evening. Chen Hao had a mischievous smile on his face but thought to himself, "Compared to Yuqiao, this maidservant is leagues apart in looks, I'm not interested."
After entering the guest room and the maidservant had finished preparing the bed, she was dismissed by Chen Hao.
A few minutes later, ensuring that no one was outside, Chen Hao's expression darkened and he said, "Come out, I know you're here."
As soon as he finished speaking, Lin Mo's Yin Soul immediately floated in front of him. Just as Lin Mo was about to speak, Chen Hao raised his hand to interrupt.
"Don't say anything, let me ask you one question at a time," Chen Hao said expressionlessly, "First, tell me, is the knife at your waist the main blade used by the Ancestor of the Nether King? How did you come by it?"
"How did you know it's the Ancestor of the Nether King's blade?" Lin Mo exclaimed in surprise, his ashen face twisting into something quite ghastly.
"Because I have the companion blade right here with me," Chen Hao explained.
Lin Mo's dim eyes flickered with an odd light as he exclaimed, "Impossible! How could you possibly have the companion blade?"
After speaking, Lin Mo stepped forward to get closer to Chen Hao and then extended his right hand toward him.
Instantly, Chen Hao's face showed shock. On Lin Mo's right palm, he saw several black burn marks and a transparent, circular hole about a few inches in radius.
"What happened here?" Chen Hao asked in amazement.
"This is a wound inflicted by the main blade of the Ancestor of the Nether King," Lin Mo explained, "Besides someone with the bloodline of the Great Ancestor, no one can touch this blade; otherwise, their hand will end up like mine, and these wounds will never heal. Look at your hand. It doesn't have a scratch. It's impossible for you to have this blade."
After hearing Lin Mo's words, Chen Hao immediately performed the Soul Separation Technique, allowing his Yin Soul to leave his body, and he pulled out the companion blade of the Ancestor of the Nether King from his pocket.
"That blade is—!" Lin Mo was so startled he was speechless.
Chen Hao approached Lin Mo and unhesitatingly took the main blade of the Ancestor of the Nether King from Lin Mo's waist.
As the two blades neared each other, the originally green glow turned purple instantaneously.
It took half a minute for Lin Mo to recover his senses, so astonished that his eyeballs nearly popped out of their sockets.
"How can you—?"
The corners of Chen Hao's mouth lifted into an arc...
