When King Ning went to find the Drinking Immortal, the Drinking Immortal was in its temple, drinking jubilantly and merrily.
Seeing King Ning appear, the thoroughly drunk Drinking Immortal thought he was hallucinating and staggered over to King Ning, slurring, "King Ning, you've come! Let me tell you something, I don't need your help to have my revenge!"
"Smack!" With a sound, King Ning slapped the Drinking Immortal across the face, immediately waking him from his drunken stupor.
Once sober, the Drinking Immortal's eyes popped open, and he immediately fell to his knees in front of King Ning, weeping and begging for mercy, "Your Majesty, spare my life! Your Majesty, spare my life! I had no idea Your Majesty would grace my humble abode and thought it was just a hallucination from my drunkenness!"
King Ning snorted angrily, lifted his foot, and kicked the Drinking Immortal out of the temple, sending him flying to the banks of the Sand River. At once, King Ning also left the temple and in a flash, he was at the Sand River bank.
"What did I tell you last night!" King Ning roared with his foot pressing down on the Drinking Immortal's back, wishing he could scatter the immortal's soul with a single smack.
"Your Holiness, spare my life!" the Drinking Immortal cried, begging for mercy, "It was the ruler of Y City who told me about this, I was just indignant and acted impulsively..."
"The ruler of Y City!" King Ning looked grimly at the Sand River, the surface embellished with moonlight.
Immediately thereafter, King Ning, standing on the sandy shore, summoned the ruler of Y City.
Seeing King Ning with his foot on the Drinking Immortal, his face full of rage, the ruler of Y City instantly understood what had unfolded and asked with a feigned clueless expression, "Your Majesty, I wonder what matter requires my presence at such a late hour?"
"You ask him yourself!" King Ning coldly said to the Drinking Immortal, not so much as glancing at the ruler of Y City.
Pinned down by King Ning and unable to turn over, the Drinking Immortal twisted his head to the maximum extent and strained to look at the ruler of Y City, hissing, "Ruler of the Netherworld, tell King Ning the truth. Was it not you who told me about that young man's grandfather's matter?"
"False accusation!" the ruler of Y City exclaimed with a mournful face, "Your Majesty, I honestly have no idea what the Immortal is talking about with these words?"
"You! Such a wily old thief, it was clearly you who first approached me for information, and after finding out about the matter, you came to me again and informed me of the situation!" the Drinking Immortal shouted at the ruler of Y City.
The ruler of Y City showed an innocent face and protested, "Last night I only met with you briefly, and then..."
The ruler of Y City was still speaking when he suddenly vanished from the sandy shore—he had been taken to the realm of King Ning!
"A mistake can be forgiven by Us, but the crime of deceiving the emperor is unforgivable!" said King Ning with a chilling expression. He removed his foot from the Drinking Immortal's back and continued, "I had previously made a pact with Chen Hao, stating that my people would no longer set foot in Y City from that point on. Now you have broken our agreement twice, and you even killed that young man's grandfather, thoroughly humiliating me! Once the seventh day after that young man's grandfather's death has passed, I will have you apologize to him in person!"
"No way!" the Drinking Immortal grimaced and shook his head, "That young man will surely kill me on sight!"
"What do you fear with Me here!" King Ning narrowed his eyes in contemplation and said, "Whether he likes it or not, he must accept your apology, and that will be the end of it. If he dares to harm you in the slightest, I will not spare him this time!"
..
The night deepened.
Chen Hao's Yin Soul arrived in the Netherworld.
He looked up at the massive gates of the Netherworld, his complexion still grave and filled with sorrow. During his previous visits to the Netherworld, Chen Hao did not comprehend the true significance of these gates and even found them magnificent.
Now, looking at them, he realized that these gates symbolized the separation of Yin and Yang!
This was a gate filled with sorrow.
Chen Hao approached Niu Tou, and without a word, Niu Tou tossed him upon the city wall.
Catching Chen Hao on the wall, a Niu Tou spoke to him in a sorrow-filled tone, "I've heard about what happened to your grandfather. Please, accept my condolences!"
Chen Hao didn't respond and continued walking towards Grandpa's location inside the city battlements.
As he walked, Chen Hao's steps became heavier, and tears streamed down his face again. He didn't know how he would face Grandpa's Yin Soul later.
"Go in!" Niu Tou's voice suddenly rang in Chen Hao's ears.
Chen Hao lowered his head, allowing the tears to slide down his face and dampen his collar.
The cold wind howled atop the city walls, making Chen Hao shiver uncontrollably as his body swayed.
After a long while, Chen Hao slowly walked into the chilly interior of the battlements. To his surprise, as soon as he entered, he saw his long-unseen grandfather, Chen Che.
Chen Che was leaning against the wall at the top of the stairwell. In Chen Hao's view, Grandpa appeared to have lost even more weight.
Although Chen Hao knew very well that a Yin Soul wouldn't lose weight.
Chen Hao stopped in his tracks and crouched down, burying his head in his arms and sobbed. He couldn't accept the fact that from then on, he could only meet with Grandpa in this way. He still wanted to take walks with Grandpa; to go ghost hunting with him; to taste Grandpa's cooking again; and even longed for Grandpa's scoldings...
He missed everything about Grandpa's when he was alive.
This made him even more aware that Grandpa was truly gone! So he cried even harder, like a helpless child.
Chen Che, supporting himself against the cold, damp wall, walked over. His gait seemed more unsteady than Chen Hao remembered, which deepened the sadness in Chen Hao's heart.
The ghastly wind from above the walls blew into the battlement, seeming to carry Grandpa even further away in Chen Hao's heart.
"Hao'er!" Chen Che walked over to Chen Hao and helped him to his feet.
"Grandpa! I'm sorry! I...," Chen Hao's voice choked up before he could finish. Grandpa's hands would no longer be warm in his, leaving him feeling utterly disheartened.
Chen Che gave Chen Hao a kind and gentle smile, then opened his arms and hugged him close. After patting Chen Hao on the shoulder, tears filled Chen Che's eyes too.
He wasn't crying because of his own death. He was crying because after all the hard work of raising Chen Hao, he still hoped to see him go to college, get married, have children...
Now, all of that had come to naught.
In the cold wind, the grandson and grandfather just held each other without a word.
It wasn't until a long time had passed that Niu Tou walked over and said, "Chen Hao, you should go back now. Your grandpa will stay here for a while, and we will allow you to visit him once every half a month."
"Mmm!" Chen Che looked contentedly at Niu Tou and nodded, then said to Chen Hao, "Hao'er, go back. We can talk more later, Grandpa is still here!"
Chen Hao suddenly burst into loud weeping!
After a while, Chen Hao suddenly left Chen Che's embrace, turned his back to Chen Che, and without letting him see his weakness, said, "Grandpa, I'm leaving now. I'll come to see you again next time!"
"Wait!" Chen Che called out to Chen Hao, with a furrowed brow.
After a pause, Chen Che continued, "Hao'er, Grandpa has heard about all you've done these past days from Niu Tou, and I am proud of you!"
Chen Hao turned back, looked at Chen Che, and once again wept uncontrollably!
