"Have you thought this through? Once you enter the Wind Cavity, you'll never be able to come out."
Ye Yuqiao nodded without hesitation.
A wrinkle appeared between the brows of Wind Girl as she spoke sorrowfully, "Do you really like the boy who killed the Shadow Demon that much?"
"Though the Shadow Demon died at his hands, the real murderer should be the person who sent the Shadow Demon to kill him!" Ye Yuqiao said somberly, her mind filled with Chen Hao's image; she only wanted to see Chen Hao as soon as possible.
Anger and killing intent once again crept onto Wind Girl's pale, snow-like face, and she squinted her eyes to ask, "Why would you say that?"
"Because no matter who was sent, the result would have been the same; they would all die by his hand!" Ye Yuqiao explained, a commanding presence emanating from her expressionless face that made it difficult for others to look directly at her.
Wind Girl had no words to counter.
After a brief silence, a giant wind cavity emerged from the ground beneath their feet, emitting a whistling "woooo" sound.
"Whether or not you enter is your choice," Wind Girl murmured with a bowed head, her tone tinged with melancholy. "But let me remind you one last time: once you enter, you may not be able to find him!"
"I will definitely find him!" declared Ye Yuqiao with determined eyes, then she withdrew the Nether King's Power that had solidified the air around her. "Thank you for letting this happen!"
With those words, Ye Yuqiao leaped into the wind cavity.
"You!" Wind Girl abruptly looked up, her face distraught and tears falling like rain. "I have facilitated your desires, but who will facilitate mine!"
No sooner had she spoken than the wind cavity disappeared from the ground, and Wind Girl's wails of sorrow had only just begun to echo throughout the forest.
Before long, the sound of Wind Girl's crying had changed from quiet sobs to loud wails; the winds in the forest grew wilder, and the air was heavy with the scent of alcohol. Subsequently, a thin and dispirited man appeared on the ground at Wind Girl's feet.
That man was Zhao Chong.
He first coughed twice, the smell of alcohol intensifying with his coughs.
After hearing Wind Girl's weeping, he looked up at her.
"Who are you?" Wind Girl, halting her tears, asked sternly, feeling a sense of resonance from Zhao Chong's melancholic and sorrowful eyes.
Zhao Chong managed to squeeze a slight smile on his face but remained silent, his gaze wandering elsewhere. After looking around, he gazed back at Wind Girl and asked, "Miss, may I ask, did you just see a woman pass by here?"
His voice, like his appearance, was elegant and genteel, lacking deliberate arrogance but somehow convincing Wind Girl that he was a naturally arrogant person at heart. Wind Girl snorted and then turned into a breeze and drifted away, leaving behind two cold words in the air--"No."
Hearing Wind Girl's response, Zhao Chong's cough suddenly worsened. At this point, he could no longer feel the Nether King's Power, causing him to wonder if it was just a hallucination from being drunk. After standing still for a long time, Zhao Chong said despairingly, "I am truly foolish; Yuqiao couldn't possibly appear in the mortal world! It's been only eighteen years, and I am already sick with longing. I try to drown my sorrows with wine every day, yet my sorrows only intensify."
With those words, Zhao Chong returned to the Netherworld.
A quarter of an hour later, Wind Girl was back at Yue Mountain, the place where she and Shadow Demon had met, become acquainted, and come to know each other.
She remembered the first time she saw that grey shadow; it was two hundred years ago, at the foot of Yue Mountain by the lake:
She was passing by Yue Mountain at the time, and seeing the beautiful lake and mountain scenery, she materialized and sat on a grey stone by the lake, dipping her feet in the cool water to frolic.
About half an hour later, she suddenly heard a scream of "ah" from beneath. She cried out in alarm and turned into wind, soaring into the sky. However, when she searched below, she found no one.
"Who's there?" Wind Girl shouted toward the ground.
"Miss, I'm sorry," came a strange voice from nowhere, "I was.. I was a toad living under that big rock, and just now when you sat down, you pressed on me."
Wind Girl flew into a rage and scolded, "Stop talking nonsense! I am a gust of wind, so light I almost have no weight, how could I crush a large rock! But you being a toad might not be a lie, probably just a toad that wants to eat swan meat! Come out and meet your death!"
"Ah!" the strange voice suddenly exclaimed, "Miss, spare my life, I truly didn't mean to offend, please forgive me. I shall take my leave now, until we meet again!"
Amidst the sound of wind, Wind Girl noticed that the voice was drifting away. Following the direction from which the voice came, she saw a grey shadow and shouted, "Don't think you can escape!"
Having said that, she transformed into a gust of fierce wind and chased after the grey shadow. What surprised Wind Girl next was not only did she fail to catch up to the offender, but all her moves were ineffective against him. All she could do was chase after his shadow.
And so, after chasing for half a year, Wind Girl finally stopped pursuing. Seeing Wind Girl stop, so did the other, but he hid behind a large banyan tree, showing only his shadow to her.
"Hey," Wind Girl never thought she'd see the day she'd be out of breath, "I've been chasing you for half a year, how can you not be tired?"
"I'm afraid you'll kill me, so I have to keep going no matter how tired," he replied.
After a pause, Wind Girl said, "I can promise I'll let you go, but you have to come out and let me see you. I really want to know, what does someone faster than the wind look like?"
"Thank you for sparing my life, Miss!" the person said, his tone tinged with a hint of sadness. "But I'm really too ugly, I'm afraid you'd be frightened if you saw me, so let's just leave it. Farewell!"
As soon as the words left his mouth, Wind Girl saw the grey shadow darting away. Immediately, she turned into a gust of wind and chased after him, shouting, "I've traveled the world, I've seen all sorts of ugly freaks, how could you scare me? Stop right now, let me have a look at you, just one look!"
"Miss, I really must apologize, but I beg you not to chase me anymore!" said the fleeing grey shadow, moving even faster.
"I don't care!" insisted Wind Girl, hot in pursuit, "Until I see your face, you will never be able to escape from the palm of my hand."
After ten years of chasing, Wind Girl followed the grey shadow back to Yue Mountain. By the lake where they first met, Wind Girl shouted, "Hey, wait, can't we rest for a while? Do you remember this place?"
"How could I forget?"
Wind Girl, catching her breath, smiled and said, "I really like this place, what about you?"
"If it weren't for you chasing me, I probably would never have left here."
"In that case, we have an agreement, from now on, let's race around this mountain. We'll stop for a day of rest every three months, until I catch you and see what you look like!"
It took a long time before there came a reply from the person, "What if you never see me?"
"That's why I said we'd only run around this mountain. If I don't want to chase anymore, I'll just stop and enjoy the scenery."
"Alright, I agree! I will definitely not let you catch me!"
..
Latterly, just like that, Wind Girl chased the Shadow Demon around Yue Mountain for two hundred years. Until a few days ago, when the Shadow Demon suddenly disappeared.
As past events flooded back, tears streamed down Wind Girl's face! In the sound of the wind, it seemed as if her quiet sobs and faint moaning resonated.
Suddenly, a wind hole beneath Wind Girl's feet opened on its own.
Wind Girl was startled, looked down into the wind hole, and saw Chen Hao brandishing his sword as he rushed out of the wind hole, lunging at her.
"This sword!" Wind Girl immediately recognized the sword. She was amazed, thinking that this couldn't be the same sword from three hundred years ago...
