The two aspirants continued to stare at Morgan's unmoving form in silence, their expressions betraying the shock they felt.
Origin tablets were things straight out of legends.
The origin tablets contained the techniques that one could use to tap into umbralis.
Of course, that process of obtaining one was quite arduous and tremendously difficult.
That only made the fact that Morgan had been able to find one even more incredulous.
"Is he telling the truth?"
The fact that Morgan was no longer a mere aspirant was proof enough that he'd somehow become an initiate without anyone's help.
Not to mention the fact that not everyone who stumbled upon an origin tablet would be able to wield the power infused within it.
It was one of the reasons why the founders of the great houses were beings of legend. The mere fact that they had managed to tap into the great power within the origin tablets was no small feat.
After mastering the technique, the Wielder could essentially pass on the technique to those who show desire by teaching them their own technique.
Morgan turned and promptly fell asleep.
Talia turned to Lucian, whispering in the darkness.
" Do you think you stumbled upon an origin tablet?" she mused.
Lucian shook his head, lying back down.
He let out a weary sigh.
" It's possible, but I'm not quite sure I would have to confirm it with my own eyes."
" What's an origin tablet?" Cassius asked with a hint of puzzlement in his voice.
"Get some sleep. I will explain everything in the morning."
Morning came sooner rather than later.
A dull, irregular ringing dragged Lucian out of his sleep.
Lucian sprang to his feet, swiftly unsheathing his blades.
What met him was the sight of two figures dashing swiftly across the gilded floor at the far end of the hall.
Emily repeatedly swung her icy blades through the air, attacking Morgan repeatedly.
Lucian's lips twisted in amusement, his eyes narrowing slightly.
" They're really sparring? A Talented against an assassin at this point... interesting."
Talia rose and walked over to where he was staring at the two.
" They've really grown and in such a short period of time, huh. "
Lucian glanced at her in surprise.
" What do you mean? You of all people barely know them?"
Talia shrugged nonchalantly, crossing her arms across her chest.
"Well,l I've seen Morgan fight before. That one time when he ducked it out with Draco. Quite the memorable fight. And since then, I can tell that he's gotten much better than before."
A dangerous smile appeared on her face.
" In fact, as you are now, I don't think even you stand a chance against him. Does he know? About the full extent of your abilities, I wonder?"
She stepped dangerously close, leaning to whisper in Lucian's ear.
" Or does he also know you as a weak, timid, cowardly kid?"
Lucian shrugged, feigning modesty.
" Please, I've always been quite harmless," he said with a smile.
" So, if I had to say anything, it'd probably be hard to tell. What do you think?"
Cassius sniggered then chuckled, laughing softly. He rolled onto his side, staring at the two.
"You're awake? Actually, how long have you been awake?"
Cassius got up, messily dragging a hand through his dreadlocks.
" You're harmless, you say, tell me another," he said.
Lucuan smiled wryly, turning back to Morgan and Emily's sparring match.
" But why of course, compared to Morgan, I think I'm quite harmless."
A mischievous glint shone in Talia's eyes, her smile growing wider.
Lucian threw her a furtive glance and abruptly stepped away from her.
" What? Why are you smiling like that?"
Talua shrugged slightly.
" I simply got an idea," she said.
Amanda and Samantha had joined st this point, the two girls staring at the sparring much as well while listening with interest.
Looking at Emily's attacks, Sammie was inwqrdly surprised.
"How have you grown so much, Em? And what have I been doing?"
Emily augmented her feet with the ice skating across the floor to launch a slippery attack from Morgan's blind spot, but he quickly countered, moving fast on his feet.
Emily raised an icy barrier around herself, sliding back in the group to create some distance.
"It's almost like she's a different person."
A split second later, the ice shattered.
Morgan's blades cut through the solid barrier like butter.
Without missing a beat, Morgan slipped through the barrier, pursuing Emily relentlessly across the hall.
" Come on! " He yelled.
" Faster!"
Two crystalline blades formed in Emily's hands, blurring through the air like an extension of her limbs.
Controlling his strength, Morgan met the two icy blades with his own.
The Blood Reaper blades negated the ice, shattering the blades, but the two blades had only been a distraction.
Emily lunged forward, aiming an elbow at Morgan's exposed side, which he quickly countered, pinning her hand behind her back.
He playfully shoved her away with a smile.
"Again!"
Emily snarled in frustration.
In the next moment, she darted forward, conjuring two more icy blades in her hands.
A cold chill spread throughout the hall the more she used her ability.
Frost crept over the stone walls, slowly spreading throughout the large chamber.
The layer of ice slowly spread throughout the section of the temple they were sparring from until it almost looked like it had snowed.
" What the hell is going on?"
Using the ice, Emily continued to slowly restrict Morgan's movements.
Lucian couldn't decide which was more impressive.
The fact that Morgan continued to move freely despite the slippery ice on the floor, or the fact that the proud scion ignored the plummeting temperature and continued to meet Emily blow for blow.
At some point, Morgan sped up, increasing the tempo of the fight to an inhuman intensity.
Amanda and Cassius watched the match continue with similar looks of disbelief on their faces.
" How's this even possible?" Amanda muttered.
Lucian turned to the two, noticing the mirrored looks of surprise on both of their faces.
"What's the matter with you two? What happens to be the problem? "
Cassius stared at him for a moment, then turned away, letting out a weary sigh.
" It's just a lot to take in."
Now it was Lucian and Talia who seemed confused.
" What do you mean?"
" It's a bit complicated, " Cassius bit out.
Lucian raised an eyebrow in amusement, then nodded.
" Try me."
Cassius stared quietly at him in silence.
" Well?"
"Alright, where do I begin..." he said, crossing his arms across his chest.
" Right, so a few months back, each of us, apart from Samantha here, took a test."
Talia listened with growing interest, her her gleaming with curiosity.
" What sort of test?" Lucian queried
"All Talented apparently take the test. It was a test to measure a class, our power level, you could say. They use a device known as a Chronobox."
" A Chrono, what's it?" Talia asked in confusion.
" Just listen," Lucian snarled.
Cassius stared at both of them in surprise, then continued.
" A Chronobox uses something called the Arc scale to measure our potential. Apparently, the strongest can even go up to Class A-9, but only A-8s exist."
He gestured, pointing at Amanda.
" She's Class A-3, the strongest out of the Talented here, presumably. "
Amanda shot him an icy glare.
" I heard that, " she grated out.
Cassius chuckled, pointing at himself.
"Last I checked, I was Class A-2."
"And? What's the problem?"
" Emily was ranked the lowest. She was Class A-1, with a latent ability. And now.. she's moving like that! " he said, pointing at Emily's moving figure.
" So she's doing something that should be otherwise impossible, yes? "
Amanda and Cassius nodded in unison.
"What you Samantha, what do you think?"Lucian asked, turning to Sammie with a curious look.
Sammie slowly shook her head.
" These two come from families of Talented. They obviously know much more about this whole thing. But Emily and I grew up in an orphanage, so there's not much I can say. "
Talia threw a furtive glance at Lucian.
" This actually works out for me, with this I can study him more... " she inwardly thought.
Lucian shivered slightly, a slight chill sweeping through his body.
" What the hell?"
"About the idea I had..." Talia started.
All eyes turned to her, staring at her with curiosity.
"Lucian here is just about as strong as Morgan, if not even stronger..."
Throwing his hands sarcastically into the air, Lucian rolled his eyes.
" So what if you guys took turns sparring with him..."
The two Talented frowned slightly at the idea.
"That way we can tell if you can hold your own, just like Emily over there is doing..."
Emily and Morgan joined the group at this point.
A solemn, awkward silence hung over the group.
" What's going on?" Morgan asked, staring at Lucian.
Talia turned to him with a mischievous smile.
"Your little sparring match gave us an idea. We're going to have ourselves a sparring match."
Lucuan face-palmed, shaking his head slightly.
" You have got to be kidding me."
But as it turned out, Talia wasn't kidding in the slightest.
