The name wasn't the only good thing about the item though — its effects were amazing too.
And as for why Lucius was already in love with it? That was easy.
It was because this little thing was a game-changer.
He rolled the golden artifact between his fingers.
[Item Name: Eye of Luck]
[Item Rank: S]
[Item Description: A relic from the Luckiest Awakener alive in the old age. Equipping this item will increase your luck by 200% for 30 minutes.]
[Cooldown: 24 Hours]
Lucius smiled. "The Eye of Luck… huh."
It had the same effect as in the novel.
He remembered how this very item had ended up in the hands of a small-time villain — a rogue known only as The Question.
A flashy bastard, that one.
His gimmick was pretending he didn't care about fate or chance. But once he activated this relic, every single move went his way.
Attacks that should've landed missed by inches.
Even environmental hazards somehow turned to his advantage.
The man didn't fight with skill but he fought with sheer, ridiculous luck.
Lucius shook his head with a grin. "I can see why the guy was annoying."
Still, he couldn't deny it.
The item was incredible.
'But thirty minutes sure is low for an S-Rank item,' he thought, leaning back against the limousine seat. 'Still, I'm not complaining. Better than nothing.'
After all, the only thing he had to do to get it was model for a car company not even a dangerous job.
He tucked the relic into his pocket and sighed. "It really is the little things that make life bearable."
Across from him, Alexia was flipping through her clipboard.
Her black hair framed her sharp face as her eyes darted through the next few lines of the schedule.
"So what's next on our list?" Lucius asked, rubbing his temple. "Hopefully something that doesn't involve dying at high speed."
Alexia blinked, then said plainly, "A spar."
Lucius blinked back. "…A what?"
She adjusted her glasses. "A spar. As in a combat exhibition."
He frowned. "Aren't these supposed to be promotional shoots?"
"They are. This one's for an Awakening Armor manufacturer. They want you to participate in a public demonstration wearing their newest product. The idea is to show how fluidly an Awakener can move while wearing it."
Lucius raised an eyebrow. "And they couldn't just film a normal fight scene?"
Alexia cleared her throat softly, glancing back at her clipboard.
"They want realism. It's supposed to be against a well-known S-Rank Awakener."
He groaned. "Of course it is. Who am I fighting, exactly?"
"Superior Man," she said matter-of-factly. "They're using the spar as a promotional event for both you and him. The sponsors want you to use space minimally, rely mostly on wood, and… let a few hits get in."
Lucius tilted his head. "Superior Man… where have I heard that name before?"
He scratched his chin, thinking.
"Well, whoever he is, I doubt he packs much of a punch."
Alexia gave him a complicated look and Lucius sighed again and leaned his head back. "I really should've stayed in bed today."
…
When he arrived at the arena later that afternoon, Lucius immediately regretted his life choices.
'Oh… it's him,' he thought blankly.
The place was massive… a wide, flat field surrounded by steel walls and glowing runes that acted as safety barriers.
It sort of resembled a boxing arena, except it was wider though.
And standing in the middle of it all was Superior Man.
Lucius had to admit, the guy looked the part.
He was built like a statue with muscles packed tighter than steel cables and his blond hair that looked sprayed was slicked back.
His uniform was a fit that was used for working out.
Lucius adjusted the collar of the armor he was supposed to model — the latest version of the Coral Awakening Suit.
It had sleek black material with faint blue mana lines running through it, hugging his form without restricting movement.
It was… surprisingly comfortable.
They'd boasted endlessly about it backstage — it had enhanced defenses, ultra-responsive fiber networks, and motion assistance that supposedly made you feel like you weren't wearing anything at all.
Lucius was skeptical, but now that it was on, he had to admit, it felt smooth.
Still, his gaze flicked back to the mountain of muscle across from him. "Yeah… this is gonna hurt."
Superior Man cracked his neck and gave a small grin. "It's been a while, Lucius. I've been wanting to face you."
His voice was calm, but his eyes burned with barely contained rage.
'Damn,' Lucius thought, narrowing his eyes. 'What did I do to make him that mad?'
He deactivated Infinity… they needed to test the stuff for hits and beside no need to go full throttle for a commercial spar.
Even an S-Rank shouldn't be that bad.
He'd just take a few hits, make it flashy, and call it a day.
The referee raised a flag. "Begin!"
And then — boom.
A deafening shockwave tore through the air.
Lucius didn't even have time to move before something hit him dead center in the chest… a fist, the size of a boulder, slamming into him with the force of a small explosion.
His vision blurred. His feet left the ground. Blood sprayed from the corner of his mouth as he flew backward and skidded across the arena floor.
He looked down.
The armor had absorbed the impact, well it still bent inside a bit but damn… It felt like he got hit by a truck, not that he would know.
He coughed, chuckling weakly. "Oh. So that's why he's called Superior Man."
Somewhere in the distance, he heard Alexia screaming his name, but he waved a hand to reassure her.
Superior Man was already on him again.
Lucius spat a thin line of blood, grinning through it. "Alright, big guy. My turn."
He raised his hands, mana flickering across his palms.
A faint shimmer rippled through the ground as wooden pillars shot up around them, but he didn't do anything with them.
Superior Man threw another punch, this one aimed straight for Lucius's face but Lucius stepped aside, barely avoiding it.
The blow shattered a pillar clean in half.
Lucius took a step forward, his smile widening despite the pain in his ribs. "You're strong… but why do you look like you hate me? I don't even remember you."
He planted both hands on Superior Man's forearm as it pulled back for another strike.
"Gotcha."
...
Lucius became a wooden tree and in a matter of moments, the man's arm was completely stuck, muscles straining as splinters creaked around his forearm. If this was a normal tree then it would have been easy to
Before he could even think about pulling back, the real Lucius appeared right in front of him.
"I wonder…" Lucius said, twisting his body midair.
Mana surged through his veins, flowing into his leg until the foot of his armor began to glow with sharp light.
Superior Man scowled. "Physical attacks have no effect on m—"
Lucius didn't let him finish.
His kick slammed directly into Superior Man's face, and the impact generated a shockwave so violent that it ripped through the field.
The ground cracked, dust exploded outward, and the tree that the S-Rank's arm had been stuck in was uprooted entirely, thrown across the arena like paper.
Lucius landed lightly, exhaling a deep breath.
'Did that guy seriously think I was going to kick him normally?' he thought, shaking his head.
This was the so-called Perfect Human — his body was like a fortress.
Hitting him was like trying to punch a mountain.
Who in their right mind would strike something like that without a little mana and space assistance?
In the distance, Superior Man rose to his feet.
The man wiped the blood off his chin with an annoyed grunt.
His expression didn't show pain… only mild irritation.
He reached toward the remains of the wooden tree still attached to his arm and began tearing it apart piece by piece.
The sound was terrifying… wood splintering, snapping, reduced to sawdust by pure brute force.
Lucius blinked. "Is he the Amazing Hulk or what?"
He took a stance, planting one foot back and lowering his center of gravity.
His right fist drew behind him as he channeled mana into his arm, the air rippling around it.
'And I still have to let him land a few hits,' Lucius thought bitterly. 'Fuck my life.'
Superior Man vanished.
There was no sound.
One moment the man was several meters away, the next he was simply gone, as if his presence erased from sight.
Lucius froze, his eyes darting around.
He didn't sense a teleportation… no this was just raw speed.
The man was moving so fast that the air hadn't even caught up.
He closed his eyes and exhaled.
'Let it come.'
The punch arrived an instant later.
He felt the distortion in the air just before impact… a wall of force breaking the sound barrier.
Lucius twisted his body slightly to the right, trying to reduce the blow, but the punch still connected.
The world flashed white.
The impact felt like getting hit by a freight train.
His ribs screamed, his armor rattled, and a sonic boom tore through the arena.
There was an explosion of dust and wind, the ground beneath him fracturing like shattered glass as the energy rippled outward.
Lucius's body was hurled into the sky like a comet, leaving a streak of golden dust and blue sparks in his wake.
