Li Jie is ultimately just a girl; she hasn't been a bodyguard for very long. Most of her encounters are minor issues. It's only when she's protecting Nian Yufei that she has faced real professional assassins. For her, she only has the professional skills of a bodyguard, but her instincts and intuition are not yet honed to a sharp level.
Even though she can't sense that approaching murderous aura, she does have a clear judgment of Li Yan's reaction! In her impression, Li Yan may come off as cynical, but in crucial moments, he always lives up to expectations. Therefore, regarding Li Yan's recent attitude, she thought he might be pretending to play with her, but after he started talking, she completely believed him, believing he had sensed something!
Out of trust in Li Yan, Li Jie suddenly stood up and quickly made a motion towards a certain direction.
Perhaps she was trying to convey a message to her father and their bodyguards to alert Julian's group, but Li Yan didn't have the time to watch her actions just then. His full attention was focused on the entrance at the stairway.
The group at that table had already risen and was descending the stairs. Meanwhile, others were coming up, and as they passed by each other, a signal was made towards Julian's table.
They've arrived!
Li Yan could more distinctly feel that lethal intent directed at the lives at stake, swirling from the few who had just come upstairs.
When they passed by the stairway, not many people noticed, only the receptionist was filled with surprise but still cautiously stepped forward to greet them. Even the hostess leading them up was very surprised.
These foreign guests all wore a similar hat on their heads. Now, it's winter, and H City isn't as warm as S City, so wearing hats is quite normal. But after coming upstairs, their look changed, as they pulled down their hats, revealing them to be face-covering hats!
Such hats, often worn by people riding in cold weather for wind protection, aren't unheard of. But wearing them outside without pulling them down, only to do so upon entering the restaurant, that was unusual. In television and movies, people wearing such hats generally fall into two categories, like special police teams such as the Flying Tigers, or robbers.
These people didn't quite look like special police, but if you said they were robbers, even the staff found it hard to believe—who would rob a restaurant instead of a bank or jewelry store? How much money could they get here anyway? So, they just treated them as foreigners with a habit of wearing such hats and cautiously continued serving them.
...
Before seeing them emerge, Li Yan had not anticipated them being so "high-profile," as their look implied an imminent move to a massacre here! Particularly, the hostess leading them up may have seen their true faces and would surely be dealt with.
He could see them, and they could see the area. However, their primary focus was on Julian's table; they wouldn't pay much attention to Li Yan and Li Jie, who appeared like a couple. The remaining guests were still leisurely eating and chatting.
After sending out the signal, Li Jie had sat back down, then cautiously turned her head, sneaking a glance while softly asking, "What's the situation?"
There was no need for Li Yan to respond; those people had already acted!
In just such a short moment, they had controlled the reception desk, turned off the cameras, cut the phone lines, and someone with a gun had controlled everyone nearby.
The sudden turn of events began to draw the attention of the guests, but before they could grow suspicious, several quickly fanned out, armed with guns, and started closing in on Julian's table.
Music, sports, art; these are often said to be universal languages, and so are guns! When a gun sweeps across your front or overhead, no further explanation is needed—everyone understands what's happening and at least realizes they're now in danger. All erupted in terrified screams, yet instinctively covered their mouths, fearing to provoke the criminals into shooting.
Perhaps because they were all foreigners who couldn't understand the language of Yun Country, the masked men confidently and naturally subdued everyone with their guns but remained silent and said nothing about their motives.
From their arrival to brandishing guns took only a short time, and since Li Jie had signaled them, followed by Li Chengfeng initiating coordination, even less time had passed. Yet their cooperation was so seamless that within such a short span, they vanished from the table—it was as though no one was there!
This group surely had eyes and ears, and upon reaching the top they received information, understanding that Julian and his group couldn't possibly vanish into thin air, even running to the restrooms wouldn't allow all to disappear. The only plausible explanation was they hid under the table!
So their gun barrels took aim under the table…
...
As they approached with guns, Li Yan instinctively placed his chin on the table and raised his hands to his head. In this urgent situation, Li Jie followed suit.
This brought their faces closer together, allowing them to discreetly exchange whispers despite the quieted restaurant and the stifled cries, stemming from their proximity audible only to them.
"What should we do?"
Li Jie's heart raced, she had partaken in various protection duties at Jie Rui Security, making her well-versed and familiar with scenarios, including confronting armed criminals, and that one time when a female assassin held a gun to her at close range from the music hall. But never had she faced something on such a massive scale or that felt so perilous!
Back then, she could protect Nian Yufei, and going all out, there was even a chance to take down the enemy at the risk of getting shot herself. This time, however, multiple tall masked criminals wielded guns, in a space much larger than before. With such firepower and range, they could wipe out dozens in the restaurant! And seeing them walk in like that, no need to confront them—one look at their steps, their aura, revealed they weren't random thugs. Instead, they were seasoned professionals, trained and coordinated!
"Wait…" Li Yan replied softly.
"Wait? You mean wait to die?" Li Jie responded, almost laughing despite herself.
Li Yan added, "Wait for an opportunity!"
Wait for an opportunity?
Is there even an opportunity?
Li Jie felt a heavy heart. If she had stumbled into this mess by accident, she might patiently wait. Wait until they achieved their goals and left, or seize the chance to alert the authorities, waiting for an opportunity to save herself if they showed intent to silence witnesses.
She guessed Li Yan might feel this way since he wasn't connected to this. There was no Yu Xiaodi here, nor any of his close ones. But it was different for her! Her father was still here, and her company's bodyguards too! Even if not for the mission, for their sake, she couldn't sit idle—she came to help, didn't she?
Just then, the whole floor's lights flickered and then suddenly went out!
This could be someone turning off the main switch or creating a circuit issue causing an automatic trip. Most restaurant staff were already under control; even if not, none dared to move now. The chance of the former was small; the latter more likely. Perhaps someone like Li Jie, hiding in the restroom or elsewhere, engineered the scenario.
No one had time to analyze this then. At the instant of the blackout, guests along with the restaurant staff, already under great psychological pressure, couldn't help but scream.
And at least three groups moved because of this change!
The masked gunmen, initially intent on confirming if those under the table were their targets, or were considering capturing them alive, immediately perceived the anomaly forecasting a chain reaction. This could drastically alter the situation, hence decided immediately, firing at the large round table from different angles together!
The people hiding under the table were also prepared. When the lights went out, although some light leaked through the windows from outside, the darkness was accentuated under the tablecloth, which was the best opportunity for them! Ordinary tables cannot withstand bullets; if fired upon, death is certain. They lay in hiding figuring out a strategy, with people collectively grabbing table legs, flipping the table towards one of the gunmen!
As the table flew, those underneath swiftly crawled towards other tables nearby, avoiding the bullet's path as much as possible.
In that moment, intertwined were screams due to the blackout, the noise from the table being tossed and all tableware crashing down, and screams from nearby guests fearing being caught in crossfire...
Li Yan could be considered the third party. While he couldn't be sure if more assassins were lurking in the restaurant, he needed to act now!
Even if discovered by Li Jie, he had to act; otherwise, if Julian died, the whole mission would collapse. When he mentioned waiting for an opportunity to Li Jie, he indeed meant waiting to act, not waiting to escape. At the moment of the blackout, he realized instinctively an opportunity had arisen, almost acting unconsciously!\p>
And for Li Yan to take them down before they shot their target, he had to shoot faster, which required him to draw, aim, and fire rapidly—Monthly Pass!
