Chapter 59: Ning Yuhuan's Dream Songwriting and New Mission

Tonight's class meeting, aside from discussing this week's sports meet, will also cover some boring, cliché topics like students doing fake orders.

Monday and Tuesday were uneventful, both were peaceful for Xu Lin.

Every night, Ning Yuhuan goes to the library, and Xu Lin follows because he wants to study too.

The past two evenings, he read through all the books related to the Southern and Northern Dynasties in the Twenty-Four Histories, getting a more comprehensive understanding of the so-called Wei Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties period.

He also took the time to read works by Cao Zhi, Xie Lingyun, and Tao Yuanming from that era.

What is the use of reading?

If you ask Xu Lin, even he doesn't really know.

Whether reading is useful is a vague concept; reading with a utilitarian approach seems pointless. Xu Lin reads for fun, plus when he's in a hack mode reading is a breeze for him. If he's not trying to memorize everything, just quickly glancing through is more effective than others meticulously reading, because others might only barely remember certain sections or the general content, unlike Xu Lin.

Ning Yuhuan is quite busy too, she's following Professor Huang Caiying. Now every night she uses the computer at the library to read foreign documents. When she encounters parts she can't translate, she asks Xu Lin for help. Although browsers have translation functions, they're pretty terrible, often producing translations that don't make sense, feeling awkward. Xu Lin, though, can understand them at a glance.

Ning Yuhuan's English is also quite good. Her writing, translation, and speaking skills are all considered excellent among university students, but still not as great as Xu Lin's.

As for Ning Yuhuan reading these foreign materials, it's all preparation for her upcoming research projects with Professor Huang.

Ning Yuhuan also mentioned she's planning to gather data from various companies for a paper topic with Professor Huang.

These data require asking each company individually, which will take a long time. They aren't available in online data resource groups.

After all, valuable papers require personally collected data.

For instance, a PhD student doing a paper related to agriculture might need to go to rural areas to conduct fieldwork, collect data, and do on-site research, while some other fields might require experimental data and thus need lab work. Such tasks aren't achieved by randomly browsing public databases online to gather data for a paper.

Xu Lin observed that it seems Professor Huang isn't using Ning Yuhuan like a workhorse; it feels like it's beneficial for Ning Yuhuan to follow her.

Ning Yuhuan has aspirations; her current goal is to secure a place for graduate studies at Jiangdu University.

What does she want to do in the future?

Xu Lin asked her, and Ning Yuhuan said she wants to work in a research institute.

Economics research institutes like the Huaxia Social Science and Economics Research Institute, Jiangdu University Economics Research Institute, are all top-tier.

Majors like economics, finance, or other financial-related fields are oversaturated. Even private undergraduate colleges offer them, perhaps even junior colleges. They sound prestigious, but aren't practically useful, as most graduates rarely find jobs directly related to their major.

Nonetheless, at prestigious universities, it's different. The range of choices can be broader, and the platform tends to be relatively higher.

Take math majors, for example. At ordinary undergraduate schools, studying math usually leads to a career as a secondary school teacher. But at top universities, the future can be unpredictable; students might work on national secret projects and must keep them confidential, not even telling family members, who ask why their salary is just three thousand a month with food and lodging included.

Like how Ning Yuhuan now wants to work in a research institute, but her future is uncertain, as she'll go on to further studies at Jiangdu University. Her specific future work is unknown, and the future is full of uncertainties. If she becomes exceptional, her platform in the future will be extraordinarily high.

Wednesday afternoon, Ning Yuhuan didn't have classes, so she went with Professor Huang, another girl, and a boy to some company for research. These two people are both seniors, and they are also a couple. Their results for securing graduate studies have already been released; both obtained qualifications at Kyoto University. Their story is now famous at Finance University, inspiring juniors and promoting the idea that they managed a relationship and academics, winning placements at Kyoto University.

Though Finance University is a prestigious institution, not everyone there is excellent. Many are just slightly more refined cattle and horses, but according to the 80/20 rule, a minority will become distinguished and influential figures.

Students following Professor Huang are all very accomplished.

Ning Yuhuan is exceptional too.

"Honey, I'm not going to the library tonight. I'll be out for dinner with Professor Huang and the others, and I'll be back later."

"Ok."

"Honey, do you want me to bring something home for you?"

"No need, tonight I plan to go back to the rental and do some typing."

"Alright!"

It's true Xu Lin is going back to the rental to type, but this afternoon he's also going to hang out with Rong Xiyi.

But where Rong Xiyi is, there will surely be Xia Xiyao as a third wheel.
