The Magnificent Son-in-law

Chapter 52: Miao Youmin's Apprehension

Xiao Feng glanced at Song Keren and saw her looking as though she'd lost all hope. Then he looked at Shi Jiaxin, who was eagerly seeking answers, and nodded in confusion.

"..." Shi Jiaxin was silent.

She couldn't believe that the laid-back guy in front of her, handing in a taxi receipt for reimbursement at the police station, was the expert she had been talking about.

In Shi Jiaxin's mind, someone with such exquisite knife skills should be at least a fifty- or sixty-year-old man.

But the young Xiao Feng was hard to believe as a master of sword technique.

Yet, as the saying goes, seeing is believing. Shi Jiaxin decided to set aside her preconceptions and see if Xiao Feng really had the skills.

"Wait for me." With those words, Shi Jiaxin walked out of the interrogation room.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Xiao Feng was baffled, unable to grasp the situation.

Song Keren pondered for a moment and explained, "She was my classmate in the police academy, specializing in forensics. After examining the wound last night, she said you seem to have a deep understanding of knife skills."

Xiao Feng was taken aback: "And then?"

As they were speaking, the door to the interrogation room opened, and Shi Jiaxin came back in, carrying a sealed bag containing a set of dissecting tools and a small piece of pork.

"Make a thousand cuts, each controlled to the millimeter, and there should be no severing." Shi Jiaxin placed the sealed bag on the table and asked Xiao Feng, "Can you do it?"

Xiao Feng couldn't help but laugh: "Do you think I'm a chef?"

"To prove your knife skills, you can do it however you like." Shi Jiaxin thought for a moment and said.

Amused, Xiao Feng replied, "Why should I prove anything to you?"

"If you can show your true skills, even if Song Keren doesn't care about you, I will!" Shi Jiaxin confidently insisted.

Xiao Feng suddenly realized that this forensic expert named Shi Jiaxin was not as simple as she appeared to be. She likely had a strong backing.

After considering for a moment, Xiao Feng opened the sealed bag, took out the smallest knife, and started carving something on the pork.

Song Keren and Shi Jiaxin watched intently as Xiao Feng's knife moved over the pork, never exceeding a range of five millimeters.

Soon after, Xiao Feng put the knife down: "Done!"

"Done with what?" Song Keren asked in shock, staring at the seemingly unchanged pork.

Shi Jiaxin seemed to understand Xiao Feng's implication, took the pork, and walked out. Song Keren glanced at Xiao Feng and followed her out.

The two went straight to the police lab, where Shi Jiaxin skillfully operated a microscope to see what Xiao Feng had carved on the pork.

Five minutes later, Shi Jiaxin appeared stunned, while Song Keren clenched her teeth, her face red with anger: "Bastard!"

On the display, Xiao Feng's carvings were clear: "Song Keren was here."

"He does have some skills!" Shi Jiaxin exhaled, admiring how someone could carve seven characters within five millimeters—it required extremely precise control!

It's fair to say that any unsteadiness of hand or any tremor of the knife would have made it impossible to carve the words.

Returning to the interrogation room quickly, Shi Jiaxin earnestly asked, "Can you teach me your knife skills?"

Xiao Feng calmly replied, "We'll talk about that later. For now, it's time for you to fulfill your promise."

"Alright!" Shi Jiaxin took a deep breath and then dialed a number...

After hanging up, Shi Jiaxin looked at Xiao Feng: "You can go now, but I still want to ask if you can teach me your knife skills?"

"What's in it for me?" Xiao Feng asked with a smile.

Song Keren complained, "She just helped you solve a big problem, and you still dare to set conditions?"

Xiao Feng glanced at her nonchalantly and said, "I don't talk to people who burn bridges."

"You!" Song Keren was genuinely angry, feeling that she was just stating facts, and never said she wouldn't care.

However, now that the matter had been resolved by Shi Jiaxin, saying more would only seem hypocritical.

"What do you want in return?" Shi Jiaxin countered.

Xiao Feng didn't expect her to let him set the terms. Wasn't she afraid he'd ask for too much?

With that in mind, Xiao Feng didn't hold back and continued to probe, "Anything I want?"

"As long as it's within my capacity, I'll meet your conditions." Shi Jiaxin nodded assuredly.

"In that case, how about transferring me to your bureau?" Xiao Feng said cheerfully. "It would also make it easier to teach you."

Shi Jiaxin's eyes lit up: "That would be excellent!"

Beside them, Song Keren was exasperated: "Aren't you guys mistaken? I'm the chief here."

Yet, Xiao Feng and Shi Jiaxin tactfully ignored her protest.

In fact, Xiao Feng felt that since he couldn't stay at Lanyue Group, he'd need a change of job.

Keeping idle at home wasn't an option, lest he start feeling like a freeloading bum.

Seizing the opportunity, Xiao Feng wouldn't let it pass.

Moreover, with Shi Jiaxin being so pretty, having her as a student was a delight just to think about.

Shi Jiaxin was efficient in handling matters. Before long, she responded: "For various reasons, a formal position isn't realistic. You'll have to work as an external or consultant at the police station."

"What's the salary?" Xiao Feng asked; this was his biggest concern, as titles like consultant or external didn't matter much to him.

"There won't be any salary." Shi Jiaxin shook her head, "But I can personally give you five thousand a month."

"Okay, okay, okay!" Xiao Feng beamed, "This five thousand can be the tuition fee. I will certainly teach you well."

Song Keren couldn't bear it and pulled Shi Jiaxin aside: "Jiaxin, are you out of your mind? After helping him with such a big problem, he should teach you unconditionally!"

But Shi Jiaxin shook her head: "These are separate matters; they shouldn't be mixed."

Xiao Feng interjected: "Some people should learn a bit; my student is more understanding than you."

Song Keren was thoroughly impressed. Even from afar, Xiao Feng's hearing seemed incredibly sharp.

Just then, Miao Youmin approached: "Chief Song, may I ask how you handled..."

But before he could finish, Xiao Feng grabbed his right hand.

Miao Youmin was startled: "Do you dare assault a police officer?"

Xiao Feng replied with a smile: "Don't misunderstand; I'm formally introducing myself. I'm now a special consultant for the station; feel free to come to me with any issues."

Miao Youmin was stunned for a full five seconds before recovering and looking at Song Keren, accusing her: "Chief Song, is your way of handling things making a suspect the station's consultant?"

Shi Jiaxin stepped forward: "This has nothing to do with Chief Song; it was my idea to invite Mr. Xiao here. If there's any issue, you can report it to the provincial level."

Miao Youmin's mind went blank at her words. Could this young forensic expert have significant backing?

For a moment, Miao Youmin felt a sense of panic. If this were true, it would indeed be a huge issue.

If they applied their connections to investigate him, everything would be over!

Now, Miao Youmin could only hope that Shi Jiaxin's connections reached no higher than the provincial level, because any further, as a city bureau chief, he'd be powerless to resist.

Who knows how long it took for Miao Youmin to get over his fear, but by then, the figures of Xiao Feng, Song Keren, and Shi Jiaxin had long disappeared...

Not daring to delay, Miao Youmin hurried back to his office to call Shen Tianze.

Now, Miao Youmin was like a frightened rabbit, jumping at any slight sound!
