The Magnificent Son-in-law

Chapter 217: Every Entrance Has Its Exit

Xiao Feng went out again to buy some drinks and food, then walked into the hospital room of the Lone Wolf next door.

Ever since being defeated in one move by Su Yuzhuo that day, the Lone Wolf had been quite shaken, his energy and spirit considerably worse than before. Dressed in a hospital gown, he looked just like a patient indeed.

"Big brother, you're here!" The Lone Wolf brightened up immediately upon seeing Xiao Feng, his eyes glued to the bottle of wine in Xiao Feng's hand.

"Look at you, you useless bum," Xiao Feng said irritably. "Hurry up and move the table over."

"Got it!" The Lone Wolf agreed, moved the bedside table over, then dragged a chair over, accepted the drinks and food from Xiao Feng, and started arranging them eagerly.

The Lone Wolf was a mercenary. Although not as disciplined as regular soldiers, he also couldn't touch alcohol on missions. So, during this period of abstaining, he had certainly felt repressed.

The two clinked their glasses first, the Lone Wolf filled them up again, and Xiao Feng raised his glass seriously, saying, "You've worked hard!"

The Lone Wolf also became serious, raising his glass with both hands. "If you talk like that, big brother, it shows you don't think much of me. If it wasn't for you risking your life to save me back then, I wouldn't be sitting here drinking now."

Xiao Feng smiled, "Come on, bottoms up!"

The friendship between men is often just this simple. A glass of wine does more than any amount of words could.

Of course, Xiao Feng didn't want to use the life-saving deed from back then to tie the Lone Wolf down for the rest of his life, but he also knew well what kind of person the Lone Wolf was.

Conversely, if the Lone Wolf were the type to forget kindness, Xiao Feng wouldn't have saved him at the time either.

One bottle was emptied, and the dishes on the table were left untouched as the Lone Wolf and Xiao Feng exchanged a glance, then burst out laughing in unison.

Opening another bottle, the Lone Wolf poured for Xiao Feng while sighing, "To think, back then, I was so renowned, and now I fell at the hands of a mere girl in just one move. It's really embarrassing."

"What's there to be embarrassed about? A loss is a loss," Xiao Feng consoled. "And I can tell you, the person who hurt you before is now in the emergency room being resuscitated."

The Lone Wolf was stunned for a moment, then filled with emotion, saying, "No need for words, big brother. I'll drink this one to you first!"

After speaking, he tilted his head back and gulped the drink down.

The Lone Wolf thought, for his big brother to stand up for him, risking so much to heavily injure the one who knocked him out, what more could he ask for in a brother?

Of course, if the Lone Wolf knew Xiao Feng hadn't injured anyone but instead was saving someone, who knows how he'd feel...

As Xiao Feng ate peanuts, he casually said, "A few days later, I'm planning to set up a training class, mainly to improve close combat abilities. You should join in."

"You're personally doing the training, big brother?" The Lone Wolf asked, suddenly energized.

"Yes."

"That's great!" The Lone Wolf said excitedly. "I've been waiting for this day. This time, I'll definitely learn well so as not to embarrass you."

Xiao Feng nodded, but he sighed internally.

There was something he didn't say, which was, given the Lone Wolf's situation, even if there's room for improvement, it's quite limited.

Firstly, there's the age issue. The Lone Wolf is now at his peak, but as time goes on, it will be downhill, especially since his combat style is physically aggressive – habits are hard to change.

As they say, everyone makes an exit eventually; no one is invincible forever.

Even some older masters who still seem formidable rely on skill rather than force.

Ultimately, it's the body that counts. Without a strong body, even the most exquisite skills amount to nothing.

By the fifth bottle, the Lone Wolf started feeling buzzed.

"Big brother, do you remember back in Wenlai, the rich young lady named Avril who was determined to follow you on your adventures?" The Lone Wolf's face was flushed, and his speech slurred, clearly drunk.

Xiao Feng glanced at the time, "Keep it down, everyone else is resting now."

But Lone Wolf was one of those who got more defiant when told to quiet down, raising his voice, "What are you afraid of? We brothers have never feared anyone together!"

"What was I saying, oh right, Avril." The Lone Wolf wobbled over to Xiao Feng, giving a mischievous smile, "So tell me honestly, brother, did anything happen between you and Avril?"

Xiao Feng instinctively glanced at the room next door, "Can we not talk about this?"

"Alright!" The Lone Wolf emphatically banged the bottle down on the table with a "bang" and then smirked, "You say don't mention Avril, we won't mention her."

But before Xiao Feng could breathe a sigh of relief, the Lone Wolf continued, "Let's talk about Betty Ruth, she did so much for you after all..."

Xiao Feng was about to go crazy, looking at the table full of untouched dishes, and couldn't help but think of a popular line online: If only he'd eaten a peanut, he wouldn't be this drunk.

Seeing the Lone Wolf getting more and more excited, likely drawing the attention of the on-duty medical staff soon, Xiao Feng had an impulse to knock him out immediately.

Most importantly, if that little girl next door and Du Qingyue heard any of this, what would he look like?

"You have two choices now: either quiet down and continue drinking, or lie on the bed and sleep," Xiao Feng said with a stern face.

The Lone Wolf, however, didn't sense any danger and went on, "Big brother, I know you don't want to bring up Betty Ruth, so let's talk about..."

Xiao Feng sighed inwardly, you forced my hand here, then extended his fingers and lightly hit the back of the Lone Wolf's neck.

Just as the Lone Wolf was getting into it, his eyes suddenly rolled back, and he collapsed onto the bed behind him, limbs sprawled out.

Poor Lone Wolf, after being knocked out by Su Yuzhuo, Xiao Feng takes him down with one move once more...

In truth, those people the Lone Wolf mentioned were indeed ardent followers of Xiao Feng, the kind of die-hard fans that couldn't get any more fanatic.

Xiao Feng later went to the Devil's Concentration Camp partly because he couldn't stand being followed by fanatical fans wherever he went and wanted a change of scene for some peace.

Switching off the overhead lamp, Xiao Feng lay down on the other bed, turning on his side to watch the moonlight pouring in from outside onto the floor, his heart gradually calming.

Thinking back on those tense moments in the line of fire, this life now couldn't be better, though who knows if Su Yuzhuo could be resuscitated?

If she could be saved, then it would surely validate what Xue Nuofu said.

And there's the distinctly non-Huaxia knife — could it mean that Su Yuzhuo isn't from Huaxia?

...

"The patient is out of danger. It was a real close call; she has no fewer than ten wounds, any one slightly off, and it would have been fatal," a trainee doctor said with lingering fear.

Beside him, a bespectacled female doctor, looking in her fifties, wiped the sweat off her face, "Where's the patient's family?"

"The head nurse said it was a young man who brought her in, he just left ten thousand dollars and a contact before leaving," the trainee doctor replied on the side.

"Hmm?" The older doctor frowned.

Before she could say more, the trainee doctor gasped, pointing incredulously at Su Yuzhuo, wrapped in bandages and looking like a mummy, lying in the hospital bed.

Following his gesture, the older doctor was equally surprised — she had woken up so quickly?

But having been in the medical field for most of her life, she'd seen strange things before. So she immediately stepped up to Su Yuzhuo, waved her hand, and said, "Can you speak? Can you clearly see how many fingers I'm holding up?"

It took a while for Su Yuzhuo to react, trying to speak, but after several attempts, she still couldn't get any words out.

The older doctor picked up a cotton swab, moistened it, then applied it to Su Yuzhuo's chapped lips, asking, "Can you hear me? Blink if you can."

Su Yuzhuo blinked as instructed, despite pain throughout her body, she couldn't help but feel a bit happy internally.

Who would have thought, it turned out to be him who saved her!
