The Magnificent Son-in-law

Chapter 141: A Different Interrogation!

Xiao Feng walked into the interrogation room and, after taking a seat, looked at Miao Youmin with great interest. Despite the sleepless night, there was no sign of fatigue between his brows, making it impossible to see that he hadn't closed his eyes all night.

Having once been on the battlefields of Southeast Asia, Xiao Feng was often without much rest. The longest stretch was fighting for three days and nights straight, so losing just one night of sleep was hardly a big deal to him.

Upon seeing Xiao Feng, Miao Youmin immediately became alert, but he didn't rashly speak up. He understood the principle of "if your enemy doesn't move, you don't move."

However, it wasn't long before Miao Youmin started to lose his composure.

Normally, the purpose of Xiao Feng's entrance would be to make him confess. But here's the issue: over a dozen minutes passed, and Xiao Feng didn't utter a word, just kept staring at him, making Miao Youmin feel unsettled.

"Don't think I'll tell you anything," Miao Youmin snorted coldly. "Your psychological tactics won't work on me."

Xiao Feng chuckled, "What you said just proves you're getting on in years. If you were truly confident that I couldn't get anything out of you, you wouldn't have opened your mouth proactively."

"I know you're good with words, but so what?" Miao Youmin sneered, "No matter how skilled you are, you can only control your own mouth, not others'."

"I am quite pleased with your confident attitude," Xiao Feng's smile grew wider, "If you had confessed straight away, it would take away a lot of the sense of achievement."

"What do you mean?" Miao Youmin's heart skipped a beat.

Xiao Feng chuckled heartily, "Oh, nothing much. I'm actually just here to inform you that there was a major error in the investigation against you. Your reputation among the public is quite good, so you can leave."

As he spoke, Xiao Feng waved his hand, "Come, unlock the handcuffs and see him out of the office grandly."

Outside the door, Wang Qiang was dumbfounded. Not a single question was asked before letting him go?

However, even though he might question it inwardly, he dared not challenge Xiao Feng. So, someone brought the key into the interrogation room.

At this moment, a surprising situation occurred. Upon hearing that he was to be released, Miao Youmin not only didn't show any happiness, he vigorously resisted, "Don't come over! I'm not leaving!"

"Where would you stay if not outside?" Xiao Feng raised an eyebrow, saying unceremoniously, "If you have issues, staying here is fine, but you being innocent, staying here looks quite strange."

For a moment, Wang Qiang and the others outside were dumbfounded, utterly unclear about the situation. What was this all about?

"Don't just stand there, quickly unlock the cuffs," Xiao Feng said blandly.

The one holding the key snapped out of it and approached Miao Youmin, who dodged left and right, adamantly refusing to have the cuffs undone.

After a good deal of fuss, Xiao Feng signaled to stop and said smilingly, "If you don't want to leave, is there something you'd like to say?"

"In your dreams!" Miao Youmin glared fiercely at Xiao Feng, gritting his teeth.

Xiao Feng's brows knitted slightly, "Another two people in here, let's make sure no unjust treatment occurs."

At this point, Wang Qiang and the others realized that although they hadn't figured out why Miao Youmin didn't want to leave, it was evident that whatever he feared the most, they should proceed with exactly that.

He didn't want to go, so he must be made to leave.

Miao Youmin knew he couldn't resist and quickly raised his hands, shouting, "Wait!"

Xiao Feng made a pause gesture and laughed, "Everyone listen up, he's about to speak."

Inside and outside the room, some couldn't help but chuckle.

Everyone knew that Miao Youmin was guilty of bribery and extortion, yet Xiao Feng kept calling him an honorable official. The sarcasm couldn't be more obvious.

But regardless, everyone felt quite satisfied, especially seeing Miao Youmin flustered.

"What do you want to know?" Miao Youmin suppressed his anger and said, having imagined countless ways Xiao Feng might deal with him but never expecting the other to let him leave. It caught him completely off guard.

"I don't want to know anything; I just want to let you go," Xiao Feng said with a leisurely air.

Miao Youmin was so furious he could burst, but he knew that leaving would be a dead end, so he gritted his teeth and said, "A year ago, I helped Duan Guotai's group with land acquisition and took his money."

Xiao Feng said displeased, "You can't just talk; where's the evidence that Duan Guotai bribed you?"

"You can check it," Miao Youmin said with trembling voice. The interrogation room wasn't hot, yet beads of sweat were clearly forming on his forehead.

Xiao Feng stood up, realizing the path was now clear, so there was no need to linger here.

As Xiao Feng exited the interrogation room, Wang Qiang and the others outside looked at him with admiration. The problem they had worked tirelessly on all night was solved by Xiao Feng in less than half an hour. The gap in ability was simply enormous!

"Brother Feng, can I get your autograph?" One member took off his jacket, exposing his back and leaned forward.

Xiao Feng kicked him away, saying irritably, "Instead of wasting time, why not ponder on how to improve? With such rigid thinking, what future do you have?"

The officer kicked by Xiao Feng laughed and replied, "Brother Feng is right, but I still don't understand why Miao Youmin was so afraid of us letting him go?"

Everyone looked at Xiao Feng, clearly sharing this question.

"No way?" Xiao Feng was stunned, "Are the elite of the task force unable to figure out such a simple problem?"

In fact, Xiao Feng was taking things a bit for granted.

Ever since the task force was formed, everyone had been working tirelessly, with an increased workload leading to sleep deprivation. Having just experienced stomach ailments, it was natural for their minds to be sluggish.

Additionally, although the task force was said to be ten people strong, only eight were actively working, with Xiao Feng and Song Keren merely giving directions, indirectly increasing the workload.

At this moment, a female officer raised her hand, "I figured out why Miao Youmin was afraid of us letting him go."

Everyone's gaze focused on her, and Xiao Feng realized it was Hao Wenjing, who had introduced herself as Jingjing.

Hao Wenjing analyzed, "The reasoning is simple. Take Duan Guotai, for instance; he certainly wouldn't want Miao Youmin to expose him. Once Miao Youmin is out, those associated with him will definitely wonder if he's confessed about them…"

Upon hearing this, everyone suddenly realized, with some rubbing their heads and complaining, "These days, we've not been sleeping well, the brain's a little slower. But with Miao Youmin caught, we can finally get a good night's sleep."

Wang Qiang remarked wryly, "It's ironic that our place turns into a refuge for Miao Youmin, yet while he can escape external threats, he cannot evade the law's justice!"

This statement instantly boosted everyone's spirits, proving Wang Qiang's capability to inspire.

"Don't rush to convict Miao Youmin; let him confess as much as possible, and when we've traced the money flow, we'll be handsomely rewarded," Xiao Feng reminded, "Don't forget there's a ten percent reward."

Whoa!

The members gaped at Xiao Feng, instinctively sensing that this was the real reason behind his keen interest in forming the task force.
