I Am The Only Witch Hunter

Chapter 218: Internal Affairs

"Here is the proposal for our task system that me and Roland have developed, my lord."

George stepped forward and placed a stack of papers on Siderius' desk. Roland was standing beside George with a smile on his face.

Siderius nodded and picked up the stack of papers. "Very efficient. I will take a look at it later.

How is the status of the people?"

"They are familiarizing themselves with their new home, my lord," Roland said, "there are minor issues between the helpers and the miners. But I don't think they are anything to be worried about."

Siderius nodded. "Maybe. But notify Nadia and Kraus about the issues, let them deal with their people."

"Yes, my lord!"

"You can leave."

The steward and the advisor went away, leaving only a huge stack of paper. It was what George and Roland had come up together on how to manage the people within Santa Roberto.

They have around ninety people, including the prisoners. This wasn't a big number but it would still be a challenge to manage all of them. Men without purpose and a job would soon cause trouble. Siderius needed to assign them quickly.

He had two reasons for this. One was to create a stable system inside Santa Roberto and make sure the people could sustain themselves. Two were to produce profit.

Siderius didn't just recruit these people out of the kindness of his heart. He took them in because they were useful. They could help him have a stable income inside of Eldoria. For those that were talented, Siderius might even recruit them to become a witch hunter, or alchemist.

Siderius took a look at the managed plan.

The Steward and Advisor had split all the jobs inside the castle into four categories: Armsmen, Gatherers, Peasants, and Craftsmen.

Siderius took a quill and prepared to leave some notes on it. "Let's see what those two have thought of..."

Starting with the Armsmen Group, George and Roland split this into a few roles.

Guard, with the task of maintaining the order inside the castle.

Soldier, with the task of protecting the castle from outside threat.

"The Armsmen Group has too few professions and the task is a little bit vague also. Let's change it into ranks so that the people know what they need to do.

The first rank is Guard. A guard is required to take guard duty at specific locations and patrol duty around the castle. They can be the force to make sure the prisoners stay in line. These guards need to pass a certain physical and skill test to be able to grant the Guard rank. Henry should be capable enough to rank these men. He is also the Warden so this will be his responsibility.

The second rank should be Soldier. Soldiers are no longer required to do the guard duty and patrol duty. They can join professional training sessions, have the privilege to buy and possess swords and other dangerous weapons. However, they are tasked to ensure the safety of the castle from outside harm, a more dangerous job than a guard. Of course, guards can become a soldier after enough time, training, and feats.

The third rank should be Knight. These are warriors that I personally acknowledged. They should have an armor of their own and receive the 'Sir' title. These warriors are the elite and should be leading their own squads, doing special missions, or training lower ranks guards.

The fourth rank... are Witch Hunters. These are the best of the best that I deem trustworthy enough to go through the mutation process.

The Armsmen sounds okay but not what I imagine this group should be. Let's change its name to Military."

Siderius crossed out the title for this group and replaced it.

Next, Siderius took a look at the second group, the group that was called Gatherers by George and Roland.

George and Roland split it simply also.

Miners, to collect ores and valuable resources in a quarry.

Woodcutters, to collect woods and other resources in the forest.

Hunter, to collect meat and animal related resources in the wood.

"Hmmm. I actually like their ideas. But let's add a few adjustments and more professions to the group.

Woodcutters' only goal is to chop trees and gather wood back to the castle. This needs quite a lot of strength and stamina so they don't need to gather other things.

A new Forager profession should be added. This task requires gathering wild plants, berries, nuts, mushrooms, and herbs for food and medicine. Every new plant should go over Tanya first so she can test them. Tanya can also lead the team of Forager as well.

Let's leave Miners exactly the same. No need for change.

Hunter is also good. But let's add Fishermen as well for aquatic or partially aquatic animals.

Water will need to be refilled every day and it will become a headache very quickly. Should add Water Carriers, their mission is to haul water up from wells or take it from the river.

Salt is very important. It is required to preserve meat and fish. A new group should be added to this category. Let's choose the name Salter.

That should cover enough area for the Gatherers. I will also change the name of this group. Hmmm... Extraction sounds good."

Siderius crossed the Gatherers name and added Extraction. Then he checked the Peasants category.

Peasants were very self-explanatory. These included Farmers that raised crops and Herdsmen that tended to live stocks.

"I'm changing Peasants to Agriculture. Farmers can stay the same. Herdsmen need to be split, animal herds aren't the same and each needs a different set of skills.

Swineherds are needed to raise pigs. Pigs are a very good source of meat.

Oxherds and cowherds. One for plowing the fields while the other is needed for producing milk.

Shepherds can also be added for the sheep's wool.

Gardener for unique, small scale production of vegetables, herbs, and fruits. Anna has really good talent to be a Gardener. She can lead this group.

A haywards group should exist to construct fences around the fields and protect the crops from free-running livestock. They can also be an extra pair of eyes to watch out for diseases and pests.

Now, onto the final category."

The final group George and Roland set up was Craftsmen. This group included the common blacksmith, tailor, carpenter, specialized jobs that need a lot of training and knowledge.

"Craftsmen sounds too ordinary. Let's change this group into Artisans.

Blacksmiths are needed, obviously.

Tailors produce clothes. Tanners should also be available to deal with animal hides and leather goods. Cobblers are needed to make and repair shoes.

Carpenters deal with wooden structures and objects. Stonemasons deal with stone structures and objects.

Builders for a more general, low-skill profession that the people can take as a task to help with rebuilding the castle or other builder jobs.

Then there are the professions that are related to food. Butcher, Miller, Baker, Brewer, are all needed. I can add these jobs to the fourth category as well."

Siderius went over the entire plan, adding and removing professions. He also adjusted the salary for each job, the limit of participants and requirements. Everything was designed to make sure the important jobs were prioritized by the people while the not so valuable professions at the moment didn't seem that attractive.

"The Agriculture and Extraction Groups are probably going to have the most people. Next is the Military. The lowest one should be the Artisans. Not a lot of people coming here have a specialty or profession attached to them. If I want to fill these roles, I need to find someone to fulfil it... Or find someone to teach the people."
