Extra's Path To Demon King

Chapter 307: Purple Moon Festival

Various princes, princesses, nobles, and merchants, all who were essential and strong students from the minor kingdoms that were disappearing. But from the three great kingdoms' side, it was mainly the unimportant ones, like commoners or the weaker students in general, who had gone missing.

But this in itself was concerning, were the three great kingdoms scheming against the minor kingdoms. Were they tired of these minor kingdoms harboring bad intentions towards the great kingdoms, and did they decide to unilaterally wipe them out and add them to their own areas, ultimately making it the only three kingdoms of humanity? He questioned in his own mind as he drank a luxury wine, which he usually reserved for special occasions. But now, in a long time, he was feeling almost unnerved by the situation. How long had it been since he had felt this way?

Too long to remember, perhaps. He sighed to himself deep in thought at the dead of the night as the large and omnious purple moon shone behind him from the window of his office, which was on the 5th floor of the frontmost building of the academy. From what he knew of the nature of the three great kingdoms, especially the kings, they hated each other with every fiber of their being more than they ever thought about the minor kingdoms.

In fact, the minor kingdoms exist because they are the most barren regions of each of the three great kingdoms' areas. Each of the six minor kingdoms specializes in one or two kinds of services, and their whole economy becomes centered around it. A Service or product that they sell to three great kingdoms, making their own living. While also paying a hefty amount of money to the great kingdom they are nearest to for a 'Protection' which they never receive.

It wouldn't be wrong to say that they were basically slaves of the three great kingdoms. The Great Kingdoms generate significantly more wealth in every possible way. In contrast, the minor kingdoms are fragmented and exploited in various ways, rather than if they had that area under their direct control. It was a disgusting and cruel reality of how truly pathetic humanity was. Instead of focusing on the big picture, how their extinction was imminent, they were busy fighting one another like street dogs.

No, even street dogs were better; they at least fought for their territory when faced with a threat from outside. But humans were doomed. Maybe they have already been doomed for a long time.

Axel was reading a report on his room, which stated that Heinz's finger had been successfully reattached, with no adverse effects, thanks to Professor Regina's expertise. The finger that was delivered to Axel was obviously a fake, but laced with a bit of Heinz's mana. The Arclight Envoy had immediately moved the warlord aspect holder when Lucien had gone out to fight with Axel Nomrad.

They had given him a potion to heal his injuries and left the place. Heinz soon woke up, terror evident on every fiber of his being. He found his finger right beside him, but Prince Lucien was nowhere to be seen, and he was in the middle of the beast forest, near the area where he and Lucien had fought. But strangely, the place where they had fought had no traces of it.

The Arclight Envoy had erased all traces of the fight in Axel's request. Making the whole experience of it feel like a doubt in Heinz's mind. Seeing the state of his hand and the separated finger lying right in the corner, had no choice but to stop all of his deliberation and rush out to get it reattached by Professor Regina herself. Axel nodded in approval, reading the events.

The reason for sending a proper-looking cut-off finger to his place and for him to act agitated was that Lucien was keeping an eye on him through his trusted people, so he had to play that part. To dispel all doubts that Axel had indeed fallen into the trap of the prince, though in his defense, there was no practical way for Lucien to know that the Arclight Envoy was actually working for Axel from the very beginning, poor guy.

As for the question of whether Lucien would be killed by a random creature in the Beast Forest? Nah, he had more than enough luck to survive even when he should have died. If he died from a stupid ass reason like that, it would be the biggest joke.

Axel burned down the paper with his mana and got up from his bed, reaching the balcony. He looked at the shiny sky in the distance. In this side of the Sky, three moons shone brightly. They were all mostly of similar size and Luminosity, and seemed to be quite near each other, almost like a group. He sighed; by this time, the principal must have been highly frustrated with the disappearing students. Though too many things had changed by now because of his existence. Some things remained unchangeable, like a decree of fate; they could never be changed. They will happen, no matter what.

Because the changes he made were like adding a drop of water into the ocean, it doesn't matter how much of a butterfly effect it would have; it could not stop a tsunami that was destined to come crashing down. Not that he wanted to prevent it in the first place. At least not the first one, but as time passed by, that one small drop of water would continue to build its momentum, carried by the unstoppable waves of the ocean. It could not stop the first tsunami, nor the second, nor the third, or the 4th or 5th, not even the 6th, but by the 7th wave, it would grow to a gigantic force that had the power to stop the strongest tsunami itself.

Axel was like that very drop of ocean; he could never reach anywhere if he resisted the flow of fate, trying to change the outcome all at once. The only thing he could do from his end is build up the momentum, ride through the unstoppable waves of the ocean. Gain strength, power, influence, knowledge, and the actual secrets this world holds. The countless stories that lie beneath the surface level of the story he read. And when that time finally comes, when he has all the pieces of the puzzle in his own hand, the pieces which he didn't even know existed. He will become the tsunami that destroys every other tsunami that exists within the entirety of the world.

And that is the only way for him to change the destined outcome of his world, to gain so much strength that it would be unthinkable... to even contend against. This was the very first of that long and disgusting journey filled with pain and suffering, and the tale of the most incredible brutality there may never be, because the finale of Unified Human Academy was about to unfold. But there was an unyielding resolution deep in his blue eyes, which promised not a single shred of compromise. Axel muttered to himself with a helpless smile,

"The Purple Moon Festival... is about to Begin."
