Extra's Path To Demon King

Chapter 194: Defending The Fortress [6]

Just as the first division of the defenders brought out their runic weapons, the fire arrows raining down from the top floor of the fortress also changed their pattern; previously, the arrows ranged from 100-200 in number at each firing, and mid-flight, they started burning in that strange fire. And the arrows would be spread out in a wide range, targeting the bridge itself.

But this time, no such thing happened; the number of fired arrows increased to more than 500 at once, and the arrows, after being fired, did not burn in that strange flame, and the arrows this time did not spread out either. The third division members didn't even get the time to drink up their potions to recover their mana; the arrows this time explicitly targeted the members of the third division of the attackers, and at the right moment, when they barely had any reserves of usable energy left.

The third division's leader squinted her eyes; these arrows were also much different than before. They weren't like the spell-enchanted arrows as before. There were runes engraved in them, actual runes. She shouted with all of her might,

"RUNNNNNN, NOWWWW...….."

Those were arrows engraved with actual abilities or attacks, something they could absolutely not defend against, unless a normal runecaster made the arrows. But not those, she could tell from just a glance at those arrows, those masterfully engraved runes, only one person, only he could make such arrows. Not to mention her instincts warned that they were in serious trouble. So, there was only one choice: to run.

Her division members did not need any further clarification after that shout; her panic-filled voice was as effective as a signal, if any. With no reserves of mana left, they used their escape artifacts and activated them instantly. All the members of the attackers' third division ran towards the other side of the bridge at full speed, without looking back or hesitating.

But the arrows, as if noticing their targets running away, moved their tips ever so slightly, and the arrows were on top of them again. The arrows finally poured down like rain on the hanging bridge; most of them still missed, but some did get hit by it. The arrows somehow ignored the defensive artifacts on their bodies, and the moment a person got shot by one, and it pierced their skin, they seemed to receive a powerful and violent electric shock.

Many of the cursed aloud screamed from the intense pain of the electric shock. Seekers were powerful, and a regular wave of electricity won't shock them, but it's a different case for thunder sparks created by a very powerful thunder pseudo rune.

And it wasn't just a simple shock either, the moment you are hit with it, you're out of combat, and those out of combat were instantly teleported out. The third division leader gritted her teeth as the number of Seekers in her division dwindled even further.

She could not help but curse. The first division was left alone; on that side, they were being pushed back steadily since the opposition's shock troops had pulled out their runic swords. Then there were the rune-engraved arrows that made them flee. Their first division was now open to those same runic arrows fired by the sharpshooters on the fortress. "Fuck, all this because of the weapons made by that one handsome son of a bitch."

However, she suddenly furrowed her eyebrows while running through the bridge. By the way, hadn't she seen Axel Nomrad on the first division fighting alongside Heinz, but then…then… he wasn't there anymore. Her eyes widened, but when did he disappear? Why didn't she notice or anyone in their own first division? Could he have gone inside the fortress? It was weird that a runecaster was with the shock troops in the first place.

No, no, no, "she shook her head." There was definitely something weird going on. Axel Nomrad was dangerous; they couldn't overlook any of his actions. A collection of runic weapons crafted by the individual significantly shifted the tide of battle. She must report this to Jaden as soon as she has crossed the bridge.

The situation looked grim, with no chances of turning it around for them, as far as she could see, but Jaden would have told her not to run away from there if he didn't have a plan of his own. He definitely had something ready, something capable of turning the tide. She knew this about him from when they were children; Jaden always had a last trick up his sleeve. He was her brother, after all, and she was Jena Redmar.

But she first needed to figure out what that guy, Axel, was up to; he was dangerous enough to bring out another new and unique artifact, which could tilt the situation again. Who knew what that guy was up to? He needed to be stopped.

But just as the old saying went, when you speak the name of the devil, you think of it, you feel fear from it, scared of it, and the devil shall appear right in front of you, in all its sinister glory. And that's exactly what happened. Axel Nomrad was standing... right there; he appeared at the other end of the bridge.

Blue hair, ocean blue eyes, to some, they seemed like sapphires, even. A dashing attire of white and blue, engraved with golden runes, as the winds blew violently and the bridge swayed gently, his clothes and hair fluttered in the cool breeze. With a pleasant smile on his face, he gazed towards them, and they all stopped in their tracks. Most of Jena's division members were female, so they couldn't help but be stunned by that sudden and unexpected appearance of the man; he was just that good-looking.

He said towards them, keeping that relaxing smile on his face, "Hello, beautiful ladies, I just can't seem to let you pass."

He paused for a moment, his eyes almost became sad, as he said to them in a tone that almost seemed like pleading, "I wonder if you beautiful ladies are to remain here simply, and...maybe, we can chat?"
