Chapter 55: The Recounting of the Third Binge Watch: Mana and Power

Libra recounts his hardship and wonder during the Third binge-watch of Thane Weakarm.

The records could be found in his Channel, sealed in a parchment, perhaps for the future to see who his master was.

"Many would be hard-pressed to recount the madness and the genius of the Conqueror that has bound me." Writes Libra in a record of his making inside the Channel.

"For in my new master, I found that he is a man of conflicting identities. He is focused, and at the same time, he is easily distracted..." Libra sighed.

"I, Libra, was tasked with the impossible struggle of ensuring that my Master would be a mage expert overnight. And I was granted control over his Divine Remote, to select the shows to watch. I succeeded, but I have become a weary soul, after such a long time..." Libra reflected.

"But it was my vigilance that made his recent binge-watch one of learning instead of madness. My master recounted his past watch, and I wonder how he, a glorified spirit freed from flesh, was still the embodiment of restless chaos! The first time he binged, he'd done so in serene meditation, guided by Medoroth's voice until his Spirit expanded like calm water. I see that Medoroth was gifted as one of the Prophets of Old in the True World. His voice held back my Master's madness. But I fear that never again will there be someone like him who could keep my master still for one freaking minute!" Libra scorched the strange parchment that he wrote on.

"The second binge watch had nearly ended in disaster! Esau had told me how he was almost left to die, hungry and unfed! If my Master hadn't felt the hunger, he would have let this dungeon die! But this time was different! I, Libra, through divine endurance and saint-level patience, kept him focused! My vigilance made this binge one of learning instead of madness! But what was intriguing was how my master could capture everything, and even surpass me in Wisdom and Understanding from what he sees on this screen. For every argument about what show to watch, my master would find two bursts of insight. Between Aetherion's lectures, Garron Duskbane's ridiculous metaphors, and snippets from magical documentaries, the theories of creation began to crystallize in the master's mind! Take, for example, the time I tested him during Aetherion's Body of Magic show, episodes nine through eleven."

The parchment recorded the memories of that time.

"I, Libra, asked to quiz my master and see if the lesson penetrated his ADHD!"

Thane was watching the show when Libra paused it.

"Hm? What gives?" Thane asked.

"Master, how would you superimpose a core for both Power and Mana?"

Thane straightened, eyes gleaming.

"Easy. They clash because they're born of opposite philosophies. Mana is a circuit, a perfect wheel that takes what it gathers and refines it before returning to the source. Power, however, is centrifugal. So it explodes from the Power Center outward, seeking release, destruction, and assertion. One is disciplined breath, the other is volcanic exhale."

He traced symbols that Aetherion used in the air to show he recalled the very forms and runes, his words quickening with certainty.

"If the two coexist without direction, they rip each other apart. They collide, and the circuit of magic collapses, and the centrifugal force implodes. But if both flows are guided along the same vector of the channel, one created through the theoretical Body of Both, if the Power Core is tuned to follow the Mana flow instead of opposing or colliding with it, but flows, then it's possible to train the two energies to unite. But even Aetherion only states this is theoretical. Some form of alchemy and preparation is necessary, and Aetherion hasn't even developed the theory on how to make a flow of Power and Mana that can substantiate both. I think there is a way to do it now, like how those battle mages did, but even if it is possible, it would have its consequences."

Libra's skull tilted in fascination at how Thane memorized it all..

"And what is the consequence of this combination?"

"The first price to be paid is dilution. Mana loses form, and Power loses force. Together, they create continuity, which is a hybrid pulse that breathes rather than detonates. The wielder trades the peak of both. So it's not advisable. So I'm kinda in a stump. Power seems cool, and manly... but if I had to pick between Power or Mana, I'd stick with Mana."

"For most mortals. That might be the case... To choose one. But not for you, Master."

"Hm? Not for me?"

"Yes. Your body is blessed with Ambrosia. Which means the dilution of Mana and Power is smaller in your case. Where others would sacrifice up to thirty percent of Mana and Power to have both. It has its advantages. Those battle mages hadn't had the chance to show their ability because you killed them. But magic can make up for the thirty percent deficiency of Power, and Power can allow a Mage to cast spells with more resiliency. It really depends on how good the person is with both. In your case, however, you would probably sacrifice fifteen percent. The thirty percent is a grievous blow because, like those battle mages, they can never cast a spell as strong as Stratus or wield great strength like Bolgard. But you'd manage something closer."

"Hmmm... I don't know. Bolgard had immense senses due to Power. And Stratus had tremendous magic. Serpahina was channeling Holy in a very effective way, too. I think fifteen percent is still too high a cost if I compare it to them as the peak."

"If you face someone like Stratus or Bolgard, that is exactly the case. Yes. But you can easily defeat someone like Stratus if you manage to carry both Power and Mana. She cannot match your speed. And for Bolgard, you could overwhelm him with magic to challenge his senses and reaction."

"What if it was against an Angel of the Zodiacs?"

"...That. Of course, fifteen percent is far more crucial if you want to hurt one. Aetherion is a prime example of why he won against Gemini. But still, Ambrosia has given you quite a boost in your body that the decrease of fifteen percent would still bring you at a near equal to him."

"So you want me to pursue this?" Thane asked.

"Yes. To put it in a biblical term, the foundation of your body will be built on solid ground. A great effort will be made to build that foundation. But it will withstand the storms."

"Sounds biblical... I love it!"
