With his three teammates lying face-first on the ground before him, the last boy simply gazed at me for a moment.
*CLANG*
As the other three bodies disintegrated into nothingness, recalled by the instructors, his sword instantly dropped out of his hands onto the ground as he pleaded.
"s-spare me, I was j-just fol-"
However, before he could finish his sentence, a sudden light-blue flashed across my vision, surprising even me.
Before I could even move, a sword jabbed forward at the weaponless boy, sending him flying into the air.
He didn't even get to land on the ground as his body vanished mid-air.
Glancing at the sword as it returned to its owner, I simply nodded my head and said.
"How long have you been there, Aizo?"
Clicking his tongue, he simply walked past me while muttering.
"You maniac, you know they were at least rank 1200."
As I shrugged my shoulders, he shook his head and continued.
"At least you're not hiding it."
My power had considerably increased as I fully adapted to my blue lines and mastered Torrent Step, to the point where I could probably be on par with a rank 500 student, especially with my new sword.
And there was no need to hide it.
After all, my potential was still capped at C-rank, so even if I performed well right now, teachers would likely ignore me, believing my long-term growth would be stunted.
Watching me on the camera, they were all probably talking about my talent being wasted and my unlucky potential stat.
Leaning against the wall, watching Aizo continue forward, I remarked, quiet enough that the cameras couldn't pick it up.
"Wrong way."
His head instantly flicking and locking onto me, Aizo paused before answering aggressively.
"There's no right or wrong way, it's a fucking luck-based labyrinth."
"Is it?"
Seeing him ignore me and continue on, I yelled one last time.
"Has Magnus kicked you out yet?"
Not even dignifying me with a glance, surprising even me with his emotional discipline, he simply yelled back.
"I left myself."
"Sure, you did."
With my sarcastic remark floating in the air, I made a left and continued on, being more and more careful as I neared the center.
There were still at least 499 students within this maze, stronger than me, and as I neared the center, the likelihood of running into them only grew higher.
Hm?
Recalling a particular set of coordinates, I paused, realizing that I was actually quite close to their area.
She should be around here...
Sighing, I quickened my pace to a sprint, making a left at every intersection possible.
And...surprisingly, I didn't run into anybody.
Instead, I was found.
Gazing at the mark on my wrist, I simply sighed and glanced straight ahead, where a purple-haired figure was blocking my path.
Raising my hands sarcastically, I muttered.
"Am I your lost dog or something!?"
Adjusting her glasses, Serena silently gazed at me for a moment before turning around and answering, not even looking back at me.
"Don't make me wait."
She made a left, which was unsurprising, considering the fact that she had been the one to discover the maze's trick in the original.
Yet...as we made a left, I instantly found two familiar figures, leaning against the labyrinth's walls, waiting for us.
Looking at me, Joy simply shrugged her shoulders, while our other male teammate, Jace, simply turned around, ignoring me.
...ah.
It seemed I was late.
Instead of being like the other leaders, like Leo and Haerin, rushing solo to the middle of the maze, Serena had defied the rules.
This practice was supposed to be solo, yet Serena had found all of her teammates and was now taking them to the middle, maximizing her points.
...she didn't do this in the original, did she?
In the novel I had written, Serena had simply run to the middle of the maze, luckily finding a member of her group on the way.
Confused, I simply followed behind as we made left after left, and with Serena at the head of our group, no other students dared to challenge, simply allowing us to pass by.
Finally, after twenty minutes of walking, we made one last turn, arriving at a square-shaped, open area where a massive holographic screen lay, reading as follows.
[1. Team Leo: 15 (Arrived 10:05)]
[2. Team Haerin: 15 (Arrived 15:32)]
[3. Team Magnus: 1 (Arrived 11:23)]
At that moment, though, as I entered the square, the screen suddenly flickered, and in the next moment, changed.
[1. Team Serena: 60 (MAX) (Arrived 35:32)]
[2. Team Leo: 15 (Arrived 10:05)]
[3. Team Haerin: 15 (Arrived 15:32)]
[4. Team Magnus: 1 (Arrived 11:23)]
"..."
Besides our group, there were four other people in the square: Magnus, Haerin, Leo, and Professor Lily.
I paused.
In the book, Leo and others were supposed to reach the middle room after 25 minutes, yet they had done it in ten!?
Silent, the three main cast members simply gazed at the screen, as if regretting everything, before Professor Lily approached Serena and spoke.
"Your entire group is here...so you four may leave."
Turning around to face the Leo, Magnus, and Haerin, Lily continued.
"As for you three, you must wait till your entire team is either eliminated or here to leave. As of now, you are allowed to re-enter the maze."
"However, you will be transported to a random location, and the 15 points you received for coming here will vanish until you reach here again."
In an instant, two figures jumped upward and ran back into the maze, Magnus simply scoffing and remaining still, while Professor Lily led us to a portal.
After leaping in, I found myself back on the field, empty besides us.
Sighing, I scoffed and walked away, heading toward my dorm.
Perhaps, I didn't even need to get more powerful myself; the main cast beside me was already getting more intelligent and powerful.
