Calypso was the first to act. Of course she was. With a delighted laugh, she grabbed one of the offered limbs and let herself be hoisted into the air. "This is ingenious, Darling!!!" she called out, spinning with genuine joy as the Nightclaw carried her down the passageway. Her laughter echoed through the cavern, rich and carefree.
The sight stirred something competitive in the others.
Luna's eyes narrowed. "This red chick basically knelt and sucked Kai off and then welcomed herself into the family. It doesn't sit well with me if we keep letting her steal the show." She grabbed a Nightclaw's limb. The creature took flight immediately, wobbling at first before stabilizing.
Nyx watched her go, muttering, "I bet the gamer girl in her is giggling beneath the surface…" before grabbing her own.
Soon, the whole group was airborne, letting the Nightclaws carry them effortlessly through the dark corridors.
Having understood the importance of their job, the monsters who were not busy with transportation flew lower beneath the girls, intending to catch them before tragedy could occur.
Their master told them that these were the most important beings in his life; losing them was simply not acceptable.
And just like this, wind rushed through the girls' hair, the beasts shrieked triumphantly, and Kaiden, hovering in front of them with his signature smirk, looked like a king leading his army of monsters and lovers through the abyss.
Calypso's laughter rang across the dark. It was a rich, melodic laugh that seemed to echo through the cavern… until it didn't. She froze mid-chuckle, head snapping toward the treeline.
"Wait, darling?! What have you done to the abyss?!"
Her eyes darted across the landscape that should have been an endless abyssal landscape, but instead…
It was green.
There was even a deer staring at her!
The creature froze mid-step, eyes wide as saucers as it stared directly at the demoness. Calypso blinked as the creature bolted in the opposite direction. "You've got to be kidding me…"
Kaiden only smirked. "What? You didn't think I'd have my girls live in some dank hole full of echoing screams, did you? Caverns are for enemies. Home is supposed to feel alive."
Calypso's lips parted. "You terraformed my abyss!"
"Improved it," Kaiden corrected, stepping past her. The faint crunch of grass beneath his boots was almost mocking in its normalcy. "You're in a multi-racial harem now, my gorgeous demoness. Maybe you would've been fine in the grim landscape, but my other girls wouldn't have."
That instantly had a strong effect on the demoness. Her emotions receded as she realized he was right. Furthermore, she realized that it wasn't that she was outraged. As long as she was living with her Darling, it would be fine even in some horribly gay fairy land.
The others arrived as well.
They walked for a long time, the path winding gently through the forest Kaiden had brought to life. The Nightclaws glided between branches, their eyes glowing faintly like sentinels even in a place where nothing could hurt them.
They were taking their bodyguard duty seriously. At least that was the case until Kaiden told them that they should protect his home from invaders.
They immediately screeched in apology and rushed back to their positions.
Eventually, the forest opened up into a wide clearing. And there, standing proudly at its center, was it.
Kaiden had spent his last DMP on it. Not because he had to, but because he wanted to. He could've built something from scratch using mundane materials. But this wasn't about practicality. This was about permanence. A statement.
Something worthy of his women.
Something that said this was where they belonged.
The house he'd spent the last of his points on wasn't some rough timber hut. It was the palace, the same circular, cathedral-like building Calypso had once called home.
Moving through its halls, at the center of the building, the ceiling that had swallowed the old throne still vanished into smoke. Lava seemed to still fall in that old, slow cascade along the walls. The dais and the high-backed bone chair sat where they always had, unchanged and awful and magnificent.
His girls went quiet. Their faces tightened into a dozen tiny calculations. Clearly, they'd expected their man to give them a mud hut or worse. They had expected bare practicality; they had not expected a palace. Their eyes widened.
Kaiden smirked, remembering what he saw.
[Acquire: Original Abyssal Lord Palace — Discounted Offer]
[Cost: 300 DMP]
It seemed that the original resting place of the Abyssal Lord had been discounted.
Calypso's breath hitched.
She stepped forward so fast the ground barely seemed to take her weight.
Her hands trembled when they touched the armrest, the bone warm under her fingers, looking awfully as if it remembered her.
A single wetness shone at the corner of one eye; she did not try to hide it. Her mouth opened, closed, then she laughed in a small, broken burst that was all joy and disbelief. "You kept my home! Our home!"
The rest reacted in a rush.
They poured forward, some studying the throne while others exploring the grand palace.
Kaiden started forward to follow them, to let them explore the rooms and hallways before he explained anything. He wanted to see the way the light would catch Calypso's hair when she paced the balcony, the way Bastet would curl in a sunlit niche. He wanted them to feel it as theirs.
But Nyx caught his wrist.
Her grip was not the playful hold he sometimes felt from her. She turned a piece of paper between her fingers, and her face was deathly serious.
Kai… This fell out when I was transported. It was tucked into my gauntlet. Alexandra helped me get dressed, she must've snuck it in there without telling me."
Kaiden unfolded the paper with a thumb. The ink was neat, precise.
Dear Nyx,
I might have some information that will lead to the downfall of Maximilian Vice. Please read this carefully.
