Reincarnated Ruler: Awakening in a Broken Reality

Chapter 111: Ring of Future

Ervin crossed his arms. "Then why can't we replicate it now?"

"Because those convergences no longer exist," Kairn said calmly. "The flow of mana changed after the first surge a century ago. The patterns are gone, the artifacts lost. What remains are fragments of records and fading traces. That is why we fail where they succeeded. We succeed only to make a small dimensional pockets. We are not powerful enough now to create or open a massive dimensions."

He glanced toward Veylan, then added softly, "And that is why we look to you, Ren. The scriptures hint that only someone whose powers touch both time and space can sense the remnants of those passages. Without you, the trail is invisible."

Silence filled the chamber. Both Ren and Ervin absorbed his words.

"So according to that, I have space powers. But what about time? I don't have it," Ren asked.

Kairn gave a faint smile. "Do not worry. We have samples from the Great Mage's power. With careful work, we can replicate it to match your abilities. Elara also held space powers, though hers were tied to creation. She and the Great Mage aided us greatly in the past. Without them, even the dimensional pockets we use now would never have been possible."

"But understand this clearly our goal is not to create a new dimension. It is to find one. To open the path into theirs. At your current strength, even if we consider the power you may soon gain, you will only be capable of surviving in those calamities. No one knows what exists in those areas. We know it's just superficial."

"Okay, I understand. You want me to find these points across the world. But they're at the atomic level." Ren said.

"Yes, you are correct," Kairn replied. "But we upgraded this device to work with your powers. All you need to do is channel your energy into it. The machine will then convert your power into a new type of wave, tuned specifically to scan for those fluctuations. We already programmed it to detect dimensional cracks only. With the aid of the Great Mage's power, it can even sense them at the atomic level.

That is why it was built for you alone. Only space powers can detect these fractures, and the machine amplifies your reach. The stronger your powers, the further the scan spreads. It will cover entire plane. Sky and surface also. If underground cave present than it will scan their too. So in this journey you have to be more strong and expand your range and powers too. So tell me, what is your current range?"

"Two kilometers."

Kairn nodded. "Hmm... it's low. But don't worry, we will try to invent ways to expand your range or find different ways to find points. Anyways once you release your energy, the machine will absorb it and extend its sweep over that entire area. So tell me will you go on this journey or not?"

After his words, silence spread. Ren thought about ["what i had to do?"] Ervin was amazed. Veylan and Kairn looked towards Ren and waited for his answer.

After a long pause, Ervin let out a breath and rubbed the back of his neck. "I… might have gone too far. Asking so many direct questions in front of you, Sir Veylan… it was rude of me."

Ren gave a faint nod. "I should apologize as well. You've given us more than answers today."

Veylan, still leaning back, gave them both a tired but amused smile. "Curiosity is no insult. A man who does not question the world will never change it. You asked because you must. For that, there is no need to apologize. But remember this....what you've learned here is not for anyone else. It is knowledge guarded by the highest seal of this house. Speak of it, and you endanger not only yourselves, but everyone tied to you. Do you understand?"

Both Ren and Ervin exchanged a glance before nodding in unison.

Veylan leaned back again, closing his eyes. "Good. Then what do you decide Ren?"

The chamber was quiet except for the faint hum of the old lanterns along the high stone walls. Ren's words still lingered in the air. He spoke with hesitation... "Okay, I will go. I will go for them."

Veylan listened with patience, his sharp eyes following every detail.

When Ren finished, Veylan leaned back in his heavy chair, fingers steepled together. His tone carried a weight that pressed on the silence.

"You will go. It's good to hear. Thanks for that," he said firmly. "So you decided to go. Don't worry, you will not go empty-handed."

Ren frowned slightly, unsure what he meant.

Veylan straightened his back. "You carry too much risk, boy. This journey will take so much money. That is why I will give you something and also I will take responsibility for what you leave behind. Your parents. Your family. I give you my word. I will see to their safety as long as I draw breath."

Ren lowered his gaze for a moment. A small relief passed through him, though his shoulders stayed tense.

Veylan did not stop there. He opened the drawer built into the side of the long council table. From it, he retrieved a small iron box no bigger than a book. He placed it on the table with a solid thud and flipped the latch open.

Inside lay a ring. Its surface gleamed faintly under the lantern light, simple silver but with strange engravings that almost looked alive when the light touched them.

"This will serve as your lifeline," Veylan said. He reached in and lifted the ring carefully between thumb and forefinger, then held it up for Ren to see. "It holds enough coins to keep you alive for years, hidden in a pocket dimension carved into its core. It also carries a tracker. Wherever you are, we will know. If you fall into trouble, you will not be alone for long."

Ren's eyes widened a little. "A tracker? You'll be able to follow me anywhere?"

"Anywhere. Except deep areas of forbidden lands," Veylan confirmed. His voice lowered. "And that is not all. The ring contains a convergence sensor...something very few outside the Archive have even seen. When you insert your energy it will convert like i said you earlier but it's not visible like smoke or our mana blasts. Yes, on first use it's seen after that it will automatically save your data and then the scanning process will be completely invisible. When you are near a convergence point, it will measure the density of the fold. You will see it in the glow."

He turned the ring slightly in his hand, and for a second, a faint blue shimmer rippled across the engravings.

Ren leaned forward, curious now. "How does it work?"

Veylan gestured for him to rise. Ren stood, and Veylan motioned toward the open space beside the table. "I will show you."

He slipped the ring onto his own finger and held it up. A faint light pulsed from the engravings like a heartbeat. He tapped the side of the ring with his other hand, and a tiny projection flickered above it, forming a circular display of shifting symbols and lines.

"This is the detector," Veylan explained. "If you are within a hundred paces of a convergence, the ring will sense it. The symbols will begin to align inwards, like this. This is just a demo. We make it for you to understand. It's working like this but its range will depend on your powers not within a hundred paces." He adjusted the projection, and the lines curved toward the center. "When the center burns brighter, you are close. When it turns white, you are standing on top of it."

Ren nodded slowly, following each motion with focus.

"To reset, tap the band twice. To conceal the glow, twist the ring once clockwise. Remember that it may save your life. Bcz in the world you will soon meet many hidden talents, hidden threats, hidden organizations, hidden criminals with magic powers. Our continent has peace but the other two continents are filled with chaos."

"Okay, I understand." Ren nodded.

Veylan removed the ring and threw it toward Ren. Ren caught it. His expression softened for the first time that day. "Good. Now, try it yourself." Veylan spoke.

Ren hesitated only for a second before taking the ring. It was lighter than he expected, almost weightless. He slid it onto his finger. The metal adjusted instantly to his size, locking snugly around him.

He raised his hand, and just as Veylan had shown, the faint heartbeat of blue light pulsed across the engravings. He tapped the side of the band. A thin projection shimmered into the air.

Ren's breath caught slightly. The symbols appeared just as they had when Veylan showed them strange runes curving around a circle.

"Good. It saved your data," Veylan said quietly. "Now reset it. After reset, whenever you will use it next time this projection will not be seen by anyone. Bcz this ring is attached to your body. It has micro neurons like threads that are already inserted in your body. So from now you are the only person who is able to see the scan. Also nobody will take this ring or steal it without your permission. When you speak these words... Mission Over.

All that threads will reinsert in this ring and leave your body. Don't worry it will not harm you. It's just connected with your brain. It's from one of the big projects. We are doing research on it bcz we wants to bring back great mage from the coma. After so many trials we give you this. So don't worry about it. Just keep trust on me. If anything bad happens to you, we will arrive immediately."
