What are Suqing and the others doing now?
Once this thought arose in Wu Wang's heart, he found it somewhat hard to suppress. He had stayed in the Human Domain for seventeen or eighteen days, and by now, they should have received the news in the Northern Wilderness. He wondered what opinion Little Jingwei might have on this matter... In fact, he mainly missed seeing Jingwei, since she always appeared as a Blue Bird. If he returned openly, she would surely transform into a Blue Bird with a WHOOSH; but by observing from afar, maybe he could catch a glimpse of the beautiful woman's figure.
He acted on his thought.
Wu Wang had the serpentine creature carry him as it tore through the fabric of Heaven and Earth, returning to the Northern Wilderness. He sneaked close to the territory of the Bear Hug Clan and practiced the Void-Riding Wind Art for a short while.
Drifting as if riding the wind and commanding the air, he faintly saw the vast expanse.
A strand of Wu Wang's Divine Thought flew through the clouds, and from a distance, he saw the Bear Hug Clan's territory. He immediately sensed something out of the ordinary. The entire territory was suffused with a faint starlight. That was the power of the Star God, as well as the protection of the Star God's Dao. Mother is always protecting the Bear Hug Clan.
When Wu Wang drifted into this place, he was prepared to be sensed by his mother. Yet, surprisingly, those powers of the Star God showed no reaction, nor was there that apparent sense of being spied upon.
Fu Xi, truly a formidable figure, he thought. After all, Fu Xi was an existence who had dared to forcefully imbue the Heavenly Emperor with humanity and alter the order of the current world under its existing rules.
Drifting among the tents, Wu Wang's thoughts stirred, and that strand of Divine Thought swayed unimpeded.
Compared to the Human Domain, the customs in the Northern Wilderness are quite open. In broad daylight, men and women tumble in the grass, and many women discuss which man in the clan is the most vigorous. Ritual propriety, it seems, is unique to the Human Domain at this stage. And I don't necessarily see the ways of the Northern Wilderness as backward. Every place has its own path of development, and the future of the Northern Wilderness will be forged step by step by its own people. Forcing a regional civilization to mature prematurely isn't very meaningful.
Ling Xiaolan's tent was surrounded by Immortal Light; she was clearly still in seclusion.
Wu Wang quietly passed by two Xuan Nu Sect experts. The two elderly women frowned slightly and carefully checked the surrounding restrictions, but found nothing unusual.
"Are we being too jumpy? I keep feeling like someone just passed by," one said.
"Perhaps our Spiritual Minds are just a bit unsettled, Senior Sister. With both of us searching, how could we miss anything?" replied the other.
Wu Wang chuckled inwardly at their words and glanced at the Fairy Immortal inside the tent. He saw her almond eyes slightly closed, her eyelashes quivering. He saw her graceful figure, her charm concealed by a comfortable, wide skirt. He also saw her pale neck, a glimpse of her collarbone, the deep V of her neckline...
Wu Wang instinctively turned away, hands clasped behind his back, and drifted towards the outside of the tent.
Be proper, Wu Wang thought. We're not Dao companions yet. It would be too much to keep looking. But, would deliberately looking away seem a bit distant...
Suddenly, he overheard the two elderly women outside the tent conversing.
One of them sighed, "Who would have thought? Wu Wangzi had already received Emperor Fuxi's inheritance. Why hide such a thing, making everyone worry needlessly for so long?"
"Wu Wangzi's status and his various actions in the Human Domain all line up now," said the other.
"Indeed. Before, it was truly baffling why he helped the Human race so much, seemingly seeking nothing in return—no fame, no power, sometimes even deliberately retreating."
"Now it all makes sense."
"Commissioned by the former emperor, to support a great edifice on the verge of collapse... perhaps the third great turmoil of darkness can be smoothly averted because of him."
The two elderly women chuckled softly, then began discussing the Heavenly Emperor's decree.
The Heavenly Emperor's decree and the Yan Emperor's command should have reached the Northern Wilderness by now, and likely only recently. Four Seas Pavilion acted quite swiftly this time, without any hesitation.
Wu Wang glanced at Ling Xiaolan again, mentally wished her, 'Be well,' and his faint figure drifted away, though his gaze lingered, reluctant to depart.
"Senior Sleep God, no matter how anxious you are, the Young Master is in the Human Domain, you know."
Suddenly, a familiar voice rang out.
Wu Wang snapped back to reality, only to find himself hovering outside Lin Suqing's tent. He peeked inside and couldn't help but feel greatly disappointed. Lin Suqing was sitting upright on a wooden chair. Behind her stood what seemed like ancient, spiritual, refined, and curious beings—AHEM, that is, a Human race maiden with a slender waist and delicate legs, a member of the Feathered Tribe with thin Light Wings, a native of Qingqiu with a gently swaying fox tail, and a water elemental with a feminine silhouette.
The Sleep God was pacing back and forth on the open floor of the large tent, while General Xiong San, standing nearby, looked utterly bewildered. General Xiong San himself had no idea why Lin Suqing had invited him here. Most of what they were saying was incomprehensible to him.
What disappointed Wu Wang greatly, however, was that Jingwei was still in her Blue Bird form, perched on a nearby stand with her eyes closed, resting.
The "Maidens Frolicking on a Sunny Afternoon" scene he had envisioned hadn't materialized in the slightest!
Just then, the Sleep God stomped his foot and exclaimed, "This won't do! I'm going to the Human Domain to find him!"
"Senior," Lin Suqing said with a smile, "why not send a letter to my Young Master? You are a god from the Heaven Palace. In the Human Domain, the Young Master was first questioned, then lauded. It's quite easy for people to find a vulnerability."
"True, the Human Domain is rather terrifying these days."
The Sleep God muttered, "The flaw of Divine Spirits is their aloofness, while the flaw of living beings is their inconsistency. It's six of one and half a dozen of the other; there's not much difference between them."
Lin Suqing chuckled and took out a communication Jade Talisman that could directly contact Wu Wang.
Communication Jade Talismans are different from message-transmitting Jade Talismans; the former are expensive to produce and extremely fragile.
"Senior, perhaps I could..."
"I'm already back."
Wu Wang spoke up just in time, his form solidifying from its ethereal state.
Instantly, the Blue Bird opened her eyes and spread her wings, her body seemingly enveloped in joyous Immortal Light. She fluttered around Wu Wang several times, crying CHIRP, CHIRP! nonstop.
Lin Suqing stood up. Seeing Wu Wang's translucent figure, she observed his expression. When she saw the smile on his lips and the Divine Light in his eyes, she secretly breathed a sigh of relief and immediately instructed the four Maidens, who were bowing respectfully, to get to work.
Incidentally, Little Water, the Innate Spirit, had already begun to adapt to her life as a maiden and was doing quite well.
The Sleep God also breathed a sigh of relief and immediately began making all sorts of meaningful glances at Wu Wang.
There's an issue. A big issue. A massive issue that requires a corner hidden from all prying eyes, where the two of them can whisper secretly.
Wu Wang was a bit perplexed, but he wasn't careless. He promptly sent a strand of Divine Thought to his friend, the Sleep God, informing him of his main body's location.
The Sleep God vanished from the tent with a WHOOSH.
Wu Wang smiled. "Don't worry too much about me. I've returned to the Northern Wilderness; I just haven't physically arrived back here yet."
CHIRP!
The joy in the Blue Bird's eyes faded, her gaze dimming as her head drooped.
Wu Wang, however, understood her disappointment and said with a smile, "Don't worry, I wasn't wronged in the Human Domain. And my protecting the Human Domain isn't simply because it's your... your people's, the Human race's, homeland."
That came out wrong.
Wu Wang quickly elaborated, "Without the Human Domain standing as a bulwark against the Heaven Palace, the Northern Wilderness wouldn't enjoy the peace it has today. Truth be told, the existence of the Human Domain benefits all the Hundred Races in this world. It prevents the Heaven Palace from oppressing the beings of the Hundred Races with impunity, and it hangs a sword over the heads of the Divine Spirits when they recklessly indulge in their divine authority."
"Anyway, Suqing, please keep Senior Sleep God company. I'll be right back after I deal with my business with him."
"Alright!" Lin Suqing responded softly. Wu Wang gave the Blue Bird a gentle wink, and then his phantom dissipated.
The light and shadows before him swirled, white clouds rapidly receding.
By the time Wu Wang collected his thoughts, the Sleep God had already arrived before him, his somewhat chubby face etched with conflict. A dense fog enveloped Wu Wang, the serpentine creature, and the Sleep God.
Standing in the shadow of the hillside, the Sleep God began with a question that left Wu Wang stunned for a good while: "Is your mother hiding something from you?"
...
Is Mother hiding something from me? Of course, she must be. For instance, how exactly did Mother knock Father unconscious with a single strike of a staff? That's a mystery I've never solved.
Wu Wang gazed at the Sleep God, who was half a head shorter than him. The Sleep God's brow was furrowed, his lips pursed, and his eyes held a complex expression, as if he were burdened by some significant matter. This place was enveloped by the divine aura of the God of Yun Meng, isolating it from any external surveillance.
What could be so important?
Wu Wang said, "Mother has many things she doesn't need to explain to me, and I can't really press her for answers."
"That settles it then," the Sleep God breathed out. He seemed to want to say more but hesitated, then paced back and forth in front of Wu Wang, apparently weighing whether he should speak of this matter. Often, knowing more just makes it easier to get dragged into strange predicaments, the Sleep God thought.
He then asked again, "What are your thoughts on the Candle Dragon Divine Faction?"
"The embodiment of chaotic will, an enemy of the current world order," Wu Wang replied seriously. "Considering the positions of both the Northern Wilderness and the Human Domain, I do not welcome the Candle Dragon's return."
He added, "My mother is the Ancient Ice God; she represents the Candle Dragon Divine Faction. I have no intention of changing her views, nor will I ever oppose her. If the Candle Dragon Divine Faction truly returns, I will simply do what I can when the time comes."
The Sleep God mused for a moment, then smiled. "Hearing you say that puts my mind at ease, though, to be honest, Brother, I already knew you'd make such a choice."
"So, what exactly is the matter?"
"Sigh," the Sleep God gazed intently at Wu Wang and lowered his voice. "I suspect there might be some kind of passage between the Outer Sky and the Great Wilderness."
Wu Wang was speechless. ...
"That seems unlikely. Brother, what evidence have you found?"
"EH?" The Sleep God asked, puzzled. "Aren't you shocked at all? Don't you find this news even a little bit staggering? Don't hold it in! Let out your astonishment! A man must constantly release, not suppress himself."
Wu Wang dutifully put on an expression of profound shock.
The Sleep God's mouth twitched. He then plopped down on the ground and grumbled, "This is no fun! Forget it, I'm not talking!"
"Come on, Brother, be serious now." Wu Wang sidled up with a smile, squatting beside the Sleep God. He fumbled in his sleeve, produced a Storage magic treasure, and dangled it gently in front of the Sleep God. "Look what treasures I found for you in the Human Domain! This took quite some effort to gather!"
Indeed, receiving gifts was quite tiring, so much so that Wu Wang had forgotten which faction in the Human Domain had sent these particular items.
The Sleep God's eyes fixed on it, and they instantly blazed with an almost tangible light. He snatched the treasure—filled with sleep-inducing spirit roots and a top-quality jade pillow—and began to praise it effusively.
After a moment, he explained the entire sequence of events in detail.
This time, Wu Wang was truly unsettled. He stood up and paced back and forth, stirring the surrounding fog into a tumult.
"Brother, are you saying that in your dream, you passed through the Heaven and Earth Seal and reached another Great Wilderness? And there are countless living beings in that Great Wilderness? And you think that place is the Land Beyond the Skies?"
"Mm, no mistake," the Sleep God confirmed. "This dream of mine wasn't just any dream. This is the Great Dao of Dreams; it allows me to enter the Dream Realms of living beings—of course, Brother, I wouldn't actively do such a thing; it's not exactly a noble practice. Occasionally, this Great Dao operates on its own, and I get pulled into the Dream Realms of certain beings. This time, I was pulled into the Dream Realm of a creature from the Land Beyond the Skies."
"What did it look like?"
"Similar to the Human race, just with pointed ears."
Wu Wang asked, "Is it possible it's some other race from within our world?"
The Sleep God immediately replied, "Brother, I've lived for so long; if I'd seen such creatures before, I definitely wouldn't forget them. Those creatures... they strongly resemble descendants from the union of the Human race and the Hundred Races. Or perhaps, it's a place where the Hundred Races intermingle, with a relatively large human population."
Wu Wang asked again, "How can you prove it's the Land Beyond the Skies?"
The Sleep God pointed upwards. "There's no sunrise or sunset. In the sky, there's one sun and one moon. Daytime is when the sun shines, and nighttime is when the moon glows."
The Sleep God slowly exhaled a breath of stale air, a rare glint of sharpness flashing through his eyes. "I would never mistake the aura of that old eel, Candle Dragon."
