Drawing Cards in the Middle Ages to Rise in Ranks

Chapter 231: The Siege Begins

Outside the siege camp of Eira Port City.

In the largest tent, the lights were dazzling.

Rauf confidently said, "I already sent my fleet from Aqaba earlier, preparing to launch a raid on the enemy's port."

"We will use the flames as a signal; as soon as they ignite, it means they've succeeded."

He pointed to the distant, faintly visible firelight within Eira Port: "Now, all my over a thousand warriors have killed their way into the enemy city."

The Black Wizard named Minot spoke in a cold tone: "It seems, my Lord, you don't trust me. Such an important plan wasn't even mentioned to me?"

"Ha, Master Minot, such a trivial matter isn't worth your concern. Please, do me the favor of checking how the situation in the port is?"

Falcons are not owls.

They don't need to hunt rodents that move at night.

So at night, their sharp vision during the day is no different from that of a blind person.

This was also the key that enabled Losa to lead the Crusader Cavalry to successfully raid Saladin's camp previously.

The Black Wizard closed his eyes, seemingly feeling something.

After a long time, he spoke: "There is a strong aura of death in the port; there must have been a fierce battle."

Rauf immediately laughed: "It seems Lamoer did well, killing many enemies."

"However, since the enemy has wizards, Lamoer needs our support."

"Send the order, light the torches, dispatch the lead thousand-man group, use all the siege weapons, and launch an attack immediately!"

The orders were sent out.

Rauf couldn't help but dismissively say: "This Losa is just a young pup, incapable of comparing to my old rival Reynard; even with recruits, he has no more than two thousand men."

"Now, most must have been drawn to the port, and the defenses on the city walls are at their weakest."

Rauf thought that they held a major advantage.

Yet he still felt uneasy, reminding: "Master Minot, if the enemy's witch acts, you must capture them for me."

"Capture?"

Minot coldly sneered: "Put away your lust. The battle between casters is incredibly dangerous; even if I'm stronger, I dare not hold back."

Rauf offered terms: "Once the city falls, I will slaughter everyone here, and all the souls will be yours and the great Scorpion God's."

"You must understand, by doing this, Eira Port will almost become ruins, which is a great loss for me."

Minot was silent for a moment, then said: "Alright, I'll try to capture a witch for you, but I can't guarantee it."

Rauf was still somewhat dissatisfied, but seeing Minot's chilling expression, he dared not say more.

This Black Wizard was also terrifying in strength, but his temper was worse than Master Shemir, who trained a squad of Scorpion-tailed Lion Knights for him.

However, if he could capture a witch for enjoyment, a bad temper could be overlooked.

It's said that witches far exceed ordinary people's standards both in figure and appearance.

Thinking of this, Rauf instinctively swallowed.

Within the siege camp.

The sound of war drums echoed.

The lead thousand-man group, already prepared in advance, wearing unified black scale armor, wielding straight swords and round shields, began advancing with the siege tower with the drumbeat.

One by one, Saracen soldiers advanced under the siege vehicles.

The siege vehicles hung with siege hammers and had shied with iron-plated barrier panels on top, providing temporary cover for the soldiers below.

The recruited peasants were shoved and kicked awake by their officers from their sleep, tasked with filling the moat outside Eira Port City walls.

Eira Port had no moat, but the outer ring trenches were also an insurmountable obstacle for those massive siege weapons.

Accompanied by the roars of wild beasts.

Scorpion-tailed Lions, carrying the knights behind them, took flight; these Scorpion-tailed Lions had not been fed since today, to keep their fierceness intact.

Not far away, under a hill.

Jeanne quickly lowered her head.

Fortunately, those Scorpion-tailed Lions and knights behind them didn't even glance her way.

Further away, within the trenches, were Winged Cavalry and their Vassal Army, numbering nearly two hundred.

She alone had run to the front to observe the layout of the enemy's siege camp.

A squad of black-armored Mamluk Cavalry were on high alert in the rear — assumably to guard against the surprise attack led by her Winged Cavalry.

With falcon scouts, news of her leading a breakout would not be able to hide from Rauf.

Losa called Rauf a self-proclaimed clever fool, but though Rauf was smug, his intelligence was still within normal human range.

Thus, he had long stationed his Personal Guard, the most elite cavalry force, at the rear of the camp.

If Jeanne were to launch an attack, the Mamluk Cavalry could intercept her instantly.

"No chance."

"Then I won't charge."

Jeanne was calm.

She didn't believe that this heretic army before her could breach Eira Port.

Rather than leading the Winged Cavalry into a hard battle now, risking a loss of over half, to disrupt the enemy formation, she'd rather watch and wait for the opportunity.

Losa had already led the Varangian Guard onto the city wall.

Within the port, merely clearing some leftover enemy forces, such small tasks were left by Losa to Model.

"My Lord, shall we open fire?"

Hans asked.

With the precision of Siegfried High Tower, hitting the enemy's siege tower and vehicles from this distance was no problem at all.

These siege engines, though impervious to ordinary arrows and rocks, weren't immune to crossbow cannons and catapults.

Once the siege engines were destroyed, the enemy's siege plan for tonight, or even in the near future, could be declared bankrupt.

Against crude ladders, facing the enemy's arrows and shells, scaling the walls would only appear in movies where the power disparity is drastic or unresearched.

"Wait a bit longer, let them come closer before opening fire."

The siege weapons in Siegfried High Tower had extremely high precision, which was why Losa dared to let them come closer before striking.

If not taking advantage of this opportunity to deplete some of the enemy's forces, how could he execute the next Sinai strategy?

The enemy drew closer and closer.

The leader of the Armenian mercenary group test-fired an arrow, accurately hitting a Saracen soldier behind the shield panel of the siege hammer, but immediately a new recruit filled his place.

Moreover, this person learned the lesson and blocked the gap on the shield with his own shield.

"Sigh, this battle is tough indeed."

The mercenary leader sighed quietly.

If it weren't for the siege, he would've run off with his men long ago.

Above, a roar of lions was heard.

Ten Scorpion-tailed Lion Knights swept across the sky, and the knights aboard, rather than actually fighting as knights, acted more like beast tamers, as in the turbulent air, both arrows and javelins lost their precision.

They were actually unable to perform any combat action, just serving as the brains controlling these beasts in battle.
