BOOM!
In the blink of an eye, the Chimera was sent flying. Carving two deep fissures into the deck, Old Xiao stood his ground and bellowed. Dozens of tentacles sprang from his body, shooting towards Huai Shi in mid-air. The speed was incredible, yet in the eyes of an Authority Angel, it seemed surprisingly slow. Huai Shi moved forward an inch. The air tore apart around his steely body, unleashing a roaring blast. A white shockwave swept out, instantly flattening the surrounding debris.
He felt as though he had become a supersonic fighter jet. If he so desired, he could reach a speed of around Mach three in the instant transition from stillness to motion. At such immense speed, even the vast expanse of sky and sea seemed too narrow; this brief interval felt almost instantaneous. Like a meteor, he descended from the sky, leaping between countless entangling tentacles, his burning Axe Blade tracing a sharp, curved scar through the air. Where it passed, all tentacles shattered. Blood sprayed out, instantly vaporized. Huai Shi was now within striking distance, aiming a punch at the Chimera before him.
Under the wind pressure, the mutated limbs rippled like water. As the punch arrived, carrying a terrifying blast and scorching heat, flesh and blood disintegrated, exposing a pitch-black skeleton. Fissures appeared on the skeleton but quickly healed. Before the disintegrated flesh could vaporize, new tissue began to emerge from the wounds. This time, it had evolved. Hard chitinous bones pierced through its shell, covering Old Xiao's body. This was followed by the rapid formation of a buffer layer between the exoskeleton and internal organs. In an instant, it was utterly transformed. All that remained was a Giant wrapped in a pitch-black carapace.
This was the Chimera: an absolute adapter to any environment, any battle, any place—a Fourth Stage Sublimator! With such an immense genetic reserve, Old Xiao could acquire any feature of a Dark Creature at any time, enhance himself, and even grow a pair of bone wings on his back. These soon proliferated with flesh, becoming scaly, bat-like wings.
Having freed himself from the constraints of gravity, Old Xiao sneered at Huai Shi. The Gorgon's head on his right shoulder suddenly opened its eyes, glaring at Huai Shi. But that gaze only managed to leave two chalky spots on Huai Shi's raised Axe Blade before Huai Shi vanished. The next instant, he reappeared behind Old Xiao.
Old Xiao turned in astonishment. He saw Huai Shi's spread steel wings, their secondary wings unfolded like Sword Blades. From the nozzles, sixteen beams of light and hurricanes burst forth like Swords of Flame.
What's the use of wings!
You fool, this is a Holy Light jet engine!
Huai Shi himself fucking didn't expect that the wings of an Authority Angel would be equipped with vector nozzle acceleration!
The moment the thought crossed his mind, dozens of steel feathers detached from his back. They traced complex arcs in mid-air, their blazing light lashing down on the Chimera. Instantly, the bat-like wings were torn apart, riddled with holes. Under the barrage of metallic feathers, several bloody holes were blasted through the hard exoskeleton. The steel, which had sprouted like tree branches, embedded itself deeply into the flesh; its removal caused a horrific, blood-drenched upheaval.
Are there missiles too? Huai Shi was shocked. Is this fucking an Authority Angel or a Holy Light Fighter Jet?
After a moment of stunned surprise, he swiftly retreated, increasing the distance. His steel wings opened, suddenly bursting into flame between the heavens and the sea as hundreds of intense beams shot forth. The iron feathers soared into the sky, whistling out with sharp trails, intersecting to create a storm that instantly swept over the Chimera. Countless beams of light mingled within this metallic storm. The surfaces of the sharp iron pieces were so smooth they reflected the dazzling radiance like mirrors. From afar, it looked like a swirling hurricane of light and steel. In mere moments, the Chimera was sliced a thousand times. Blood sprayed out, staining the steel vivid red as the steel feathers embedded themselves deeply in its bones, causing it to let out a terrible roar of pain. Its body became a mangled mess of flesh and blood!
Huai Shi turned pale, a wave of weakness washing over him. That light felt like his own blood; he was experiencing something akin to severe hemorrhage. In a moment of carelessness, he almost forgot that his Authority Angel was a knockoff!
The so-called Penalty for Oath Breaking now seemed to be part of the 'Sublimation.' How ironic!
Van Essen could never have dreamed that the redemption he so desperately sought was hidden by The Church within his own body, right within the Punishment he so vehemently resisted and feared! Forge keen light from immeasurable darkness, then cleanse the darkness with the force of Thunder, remaking the Sharp Blade. Within the Stigma Genealogy, the convenience of the Vampire tool lay not only in the Executioner's outstanding Talent but also in its inherent cruel training and Soul torture beyond imagination. Only in this way could the most perfect fighting machine be tempered from the deepest darkness.
—Authority Angel!
The so-called Penalty for Oath Breaking is the Sublimation mechanism pre-embedded into a Vampire's body. When the Re-clothed Group deems that a sinner has paid for their sins and can be blessed with redemption, or when they are no longer useful and should be destroyed, this mechanism will activate from within, rapidly incinerating the Vampire to ashes. The difference is, the consciousness of the redeemed will be maintained under the Blessing of the Holy Spirit, endure the purest stage of burning, and then rise in Rank under a superior Blessing to become a fearless member of the Legion of the Holy Spirit—Saints and Angels walking among humans.
However, in Huai Shi's case, while the Penalty for Oath Breaking was real, the other two steps were entirely wrong. One involved Lily trying to sustain him with her miracle blood, and the other stemmed from his act as a turncoat, backstabbing the Bishop to obtain the Scepter. No activation code whatsoever! An illegally modified vehicle would have to dodge traffic police on the road, let alone try to refuel at an official station! In other words, the tank was only so big, and there was only so much fuel. He had to drive cautiously.
Fortunately, he had some experience driving illegally modified vehicles. Even if he wasn't a pro driver, he could barely manage a round trip on a treacherous mountain pass. It's just too bad that such a cool flying gadget can only thrill people for a moment... Huai Shi shook his head with regret. The steel wings, which had been dimming, reignited with vigor. The blazing light stirred a terrifying airstream, propelling him toward the battered Chimera with a howl!
From the air, his Axe Blade, rubbed red-hot by the high-speed airstream, burst forth with fiery brilliance.
BOOM!
The steel wings crossed, dragging the Axe Blade across the Chimera's body, carving out a massive gash. Yue Jun's head soared high, burnt to a cinder as it brushed through the flames on the wings.
Then, in mid-air, the light from Huai Shi's left wing suddenly weakened while the flames from his right wing surged. As if pulled by an invisible string, he traced a dangerous arc around a void axis. After making an almost exaggerated sharp turn, intense light erupted again from the vector nozzles, the blast of air erupting outwards! Huai Shi wheeled back around! Slash!
This time, the Chimera roared. It lifted its bloodied left arm and slammed it toward Huai Shi, attacking with a predicted trajectory at a distance Huai Shi could hardly dodge! Instantly, Huai Shi's pupils dilated as he saw the dark silhouette smashing toward his face. He instinctively turned sharply in mid-air. Amidst the terrifying acceleration, the winglets on his wings lifted to their limit. The sixteen vector nozzles turned rapidly, and the hurricane violently shook his body, pulling him into a swift spin. Barrel roll maneuver!
The tip of his nose nearly grazed the Chimera's sweeping arm as Huai Shi and Old Xiao crossed paths. His iron wings carved a deep gash in the pitch-black exoskeleton, even as fissures began to appear on the wings themselves. Chimera's blood spattered. Within the whirling blood mist, countless seed-like entities suddenly flew into the hurricane. They were violently pulled by the airflow onto the wings, where they instantly swelled, spreading like wild vines. Though instantly incinerated by the terrifying temperature, the remaining Ashes clogged several vents.
The blaze stalled, and Huai Shi's movements faltered in mid-air. Immediately after, he heard the sound of a Space Break behind him. Old Xiao's left arm had, at some point, risen forward. Within his palm, a sharp bone spear, like a harpoon, slowly emerged. Then, his left arm exploded with a bang. In that final instant, Huai Shi saw Old Xiao's arm harden, transforming into something like a cannon barrel. Scorching flame surged from its base. The expanding air propelled the bone harpoon, which trailed tendons and flesh as it roared towards him. A harpoon against an aircraft? Give me a break!
In the split-second collision, Huai Shi's left wing was pierced by the harpoon. Its barbs instantly hooked on, and the contracting tendons yanked the Chimera into the sky.
FRESH MEAT!!!
As if hearing a butcher's roar, a dark shadow surged upwards, first swinging a butcher's brand, then ramming with an E, and following up with a tendon-busting strike!
Huai Shi's vision darkened instantly as the Chimera's blade-sharp arm pierced his chest. Yet, no blood spurted from the wound, only a ray of light leaked out. Seeing that gruesome smile up close, Huai Shi gritted his teeth, raised his hand, and slammed his Axe onto its forehead. "All sliced up and still playing the butcher!"
In mid-air and unable to dodge, Huai Shi brought his Axe down with full force. Most of the Gorgon's head—including its threatening petrifying eyes and chilling snake hair—was sheared off, dropping into the bloody sea beneath his feet. Huai Shi then violently pulled up his wings, burning through the blood-ropes and shaking off the harpoon. He began to soar upwards frantically, trying to dislodge the Chimera. But at the moment of impact, two tentacles from Old Xiao's tail end had already coiled tightly around him, bundling them together with an unrelenting grip. The Chimera seized the opportunity, unleashing a furious attack. Its Sphinx's Teeth snapped open, aiming for Huai Shi's throat!
CRASH!
Iron Teeth clashed with the Axe Blade, sparking fire.
Huai Shi sneered. Fine, you want to ride my coattails to climb ranks, huh? Let's play with an Immelmann turn first!
