Beast Tamer Era: Capturing SSS-ranks with the Strongest Taming System

Chapter 82: The First Trial

A while later, a throbbing sensation spread across the back of Ray's head.

The sensation wasn't just a warning. It carried with it a sharp edge of certainty, revealing he would die if he didn't respond to it appropriately.

'My sixth sense is tingling,'' Ray thought.

And the throbbing sensation on the back of his head helped him determine the trajectory of the attack that was going to reap his life.

He was going to get attacked from behind!

His instincts screamed at him to dodge, but instead of panicking, he let his breathing remain steady.

He acted like he hadn't noticed the ambush, simply using the [Fortification] skill to metallify the back of his head.

The subtle shift of his body was masked as nothing more than a casual posture change. His hair hid the transformation from the eyes of the brutal predator closing in on him rapidly.

The tall grasses behind Ray swayed unnaturally before parting as a—

Whoosh!

A Lizardman lunged out, thrusting its glaive with extreme precision.

Clang!

Sparks flew as the tip of its glaive struck the back of Ray's head, failing to pierce through.

The Lizardman's eyes widened in surprise as Ray turned toward it with a mocking smile.

"You fell for it, dumbass." Ray's disdainful gaze reflected the Lizardman's ashen face as he slapped its glaive away before clenching his hand into a fist and punching its chest.

The attack was thrown in a hurry, but due to the [Consecutive Lucky Shots] trait, it carried all the raw physical strength he could muster.

Around ten thousand pounds of force smashed into the Lizardman's chest with blinding speed.

Poof!

It exploded into pieces.

♦️ Trial: Kill 5 Lizardmen

♦️ Conpletation rate: 40%

Ray didn't get the chance to breathe as his sixth sense tingled again.

His ears twitched as he picked up a sharp whistling sound.

His sixth sense helped him determine where he was about to be hit. He tilted his head, his expression stoic, his form graceful and brimming with confidence. As a Heavenly Being, his racial trait had saved his life many times. He trusted its judgment fully. Since he had reacted to the warning triggered by his racial trait, there was no denying he would survive what was to come.

Whoosh!

An arrow shot past his cheek, missing him by a hair. The piercing shaft traveled a long distance in a short time before coming to the end of its flight. Its power was terrifying. If he hadn't dodged it and instead tried to block it, perhaps he would have paid a terrible price.

"Found you!"

Following the direction the arrow had come from, his eyes locked on a Lizardman archer darting through the tall grasses. He immediately chased after it. Killing it would bring him one step closer to clearing the Tower's first trial—how could he let it escape?

The Lizardman archer was fast, but he was faster.

Wind howled as he moved through the grassland. The distance between them closed rapidly.

"Gigik?!"

The Lizardman sensed his presence drawing closer and closer. It was shocked, to say the least. Firstly, it had attacked him from a distance. Secondly, it had made a run for it the very instant it saw him survive its assassination attempt effortlessly. Because of these two facts, it believed it would be able to avoid confronting him directly. Yet, he was already close to catching up.

With reality playing out differently than expected, the Lizardman archer was faced with two choices.

Either do nothing and get butchered like a pig, or fight back.

It chose the second option.

It turned around, preparing another attack.

Whoosh!

An extremely fast arrow shot toward Ray—who had already expected it.

Heavenly Beings were terrifying! They could, in a sense, foresee the future. It was nearly impossible to catch them off guard.

A fireball left his palm.

BOOOOM!

The fireball exploded against the arrow, burning it to nothing.

Fwoooosh!

The fire from the explosion engulfed the Lizardman archer.

"SKREEEEEEE!"

The Lizardman shrieked as it was burned alive, high-temperature level 1 fire consuming its body until it was reduced to nothing.

♦️ Trial: Kill 5 Lizardmen

♦️ Completion Rate: 60%

"I used too much power to kill it. A fireball made of mid-temperature level 1 flames would've been enough," Ray thought, learning from experience.

Although the Lizardmen's bodies were covered in scales, their defense wasn't as high as it seemed. They could be compared to assassin type iron rankers at best. They were not glass cannons like magic type demonic creatures, but they were close to it.

They weren't to be underestimated though.

After all, their intelligence was almost on par with humans, and they knew how to use their terrain to their advantage, making them more dangerous than a typical iron ranker.

They were tough opponents as they had the skillset to catch bronze rankers off guard and assassinate them!

It was just that their greatest strength was useless against Ray.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Three figures shot out of the tall grasses, each one holding a spear, attacking him from three different angles.

If an iron ranker—or even an unprepared bronze ranker—stood in his shoes, they would have panicked. In their panic, they would have lost their lives. But Ray was not the least bit bothered by the scene unfolding around him.

"I can't be bothered to dodge and block such meaningless attacks," he said nonchalantly as his eyes glowed green. "Just die."

Fwoooosh!

It sounded like the wind was screaming in protest as azure wind blades flew out, slicing through the spears threatening to sink into Ray's flesh before chipping apart their wielders.

Slishhh! Crackkk!

Surprisingly, the three Lizardmen burst into thick clouds of dust as soon as they were pierced by the azure wind blades, greatly affecting Ray's vision.

The Lizardman who had been waiting for this exact moment made its move.

Shhhkt!

Its form flickered, splitting into four identical bodies.

Its plan was simple. Use its ability to limit Ray's vision, then throw everything it had while he was confused to strike him down.

However, it overlooked two things.
