Notifications rang out, confirming their deaths.

'My experience points has reached over two hundred thousand. I can finally level up Muri," this was the cute short name Ray had come up for his tamed creature. He didn't level it up to not arouse Ashclaw's suspicion. For the same reason, he didn't bring it out to participate in this battle.

Aworg!

The Dire Wolf Commander roared again.

The assassination failed, so it ordered its entire pack to kill him.

A fight between one man and hundreds of Dire Wolves erupted!

Fourteen Dire Wolves lunged at Ray. He met them head-on, green rays exploding from his palm, quickly combining into an Azure Wind Blade in his grasp. He swung it around while moving like a storm, cleaving through flesh and bone.

Swish—CRUNCH!

Blood sprayed. Limbs flew. Heads rolled. One Dire Wolf after another met their end at his hand.

One clamped down on his arm, teeth grinding against his gauntlet. Ray bashed the beast's skull with the blunt end of his weapon with such force it was forced to release him, then he cleaved it in two.

Watching how easily he was cutting through its pack, the Dire Wolf Commander was forced to join in on the fray.

Ray immediately made a run for it.

The Dire Wolves, led by their commander, chased after him.

Ray was fast. Besides the Dire Wolf Commander, no one managed to catch up to him. They were left in his dust. While the distance between them grew, the distance between him and the Dire Wolf Commander shortened. It was intentional—to make it believe it could catch up to him so it wouldn't give up chasing after him. Ray was, in reality, far faster than it.

As the Dire Wolf Commander blindly chased after him, Ray glanced at Ashclaw from the corner of his eyes and shouted, "Father! Now's the time! Use the Rune of Defense to trap its pack!"

"I would have used it even if you hadn't told me." Ashclaw reached into his sleeve and pulled out a small piece of stone. It was red like blood, countless lines carved into it, the lines forming intricate patterns, each pulsating with golden light as Ashclaw tightened his grip on it.

Then, he crushed it.

As that happened, his hand glowed golden. He pointed his glowing hand in a certain direction.

At the same moment, a golden dome engulfed all of the Dire Wolves that were left in Ray's dust.

Howls of confusion and rage echoed within the golden dome. Hundreds of Dire Wolves brought the full force of their massive bodies to break it down. The golden dome, however, held firm under their relentless barrage.

Ray smiled in relief and excitement. The Dire Wolf Commander was separated from its pack. It was time to hunt this peak bronze rank demonic beast.

"The Rune of Defense won't trap them for long. You only have two hours to defeat him before it runs out of power and the Dire Wolves are set free," Ashclaw shouted at him from afar.

"Two hours are more than enough," Ray replied to him as he pounced on the Dire Wolf Commander!

The Dire Wolf Commander wasn't ignorant of what was going on, but it was too prideful to fear a fight.

Whoosh!

It lunged, claws like curved scimitars slashing toward Ray's chest.

Ray's Azure Wind Blade snapped up.

Clang!

Sparks flew as blade met claws.

He was forced back three steps, while the Dire Wolf Commander was unaffected. It was clear who was stronger!

The Dire Wolf Commander's moved with speed that left afterimages in its wake. Its second strike came instantly, a snapping bite aimed to crush his skull.

Ray ducked, rolling beneath its jaws, and his blade flashed upward, carving a shallow cut across its flank.

Blood hissed as it splattered the ground, but the slightly injured Dire Wolf Commander didn't even flinch. Instead, its fur rose, stiffening until they shimmered like burning needles. With a violent shake, it unleashed them in a deadly barrage.

The air whistled. Dozens of fiery bristles shot outward like a storm of arrows.

Ray swept his Azure Wind blade in an arc, cutting through some, while, with his free hand, he released a vortex of fire, burning away the rest.

The Dire Wolf Commander growled in disasstification. Ray was tougher than it thought. Usually that attack would kill its prey!

Aworg!

With a roar, it leapt high, then descended with its claws raised to smash him flat. Ray kicked off the ground, his body blurring as he evaded to the side. Right after evading, he attacked. His Azure Wind Blade lashed out like the deadliest snake, piercing through its defence, stabbing into its chest.

Ray smiled. Victory was his.

However.

Just as its heart was about to be pierced, it melted into the shadows.

"Fuck." Ray's eyes flew open. "It can also do this?"

He never expected that the Dire Wolf Commander had the ability to use the skills of assassin type demonic beasts, so he was caught off guard.

A sense of danger gripped him. But he was too late to react to the warning triggered by his sixth sense.

The Dire Wolf Commander appeared close by with its jaws opened wide, an attack already prepared.

A molten glow surged deep in its throat before a torrent of flames burst forth from its mouth, scorching everything in its path.

The grasses and the trees burned to nothing, and the soil turned into glass.

It was actually hot enough to nearly instantaneously vitrify the soil! Its flames reached at least 2,500 degrees Celsius, far beyond the strength of Ray's level 2 Fire!!!

Ray felt the heat approach and his pupils narrowed.

Ashclaw worried for his safety.

Just as the flames were about to submerge him, green lights flashed out from under his clothes.

His ultimate trump card.

The one recommended by Selena.

Had come into play!!!
