Infinite Slaughter System: I Kill, Therefore I Ascend!

Chapter 111: Yao San

Li Ling had consumed 100 Slaughter Points of his 1,717 total by this point, and he was nowhere near done. Slaughter Points could always be farmed again, but the strength gained was for him to use to effect his goals and achieve his desires.

The fifth layer cost 50 Slaughter Points and granted 60 meters of spirit sense radius, while the sixth layer closed off at a full 100 meters of spirit sense, perfectly matching the cultivation gains of the Foundation Establishment realm—only that the gap in quality was akin to a stock Honda Accord trying to race a customized Toyota Supra.

However, Li Ling had to stop here because the next realm required Core Formation level cultivation to continue, not just in terms of quantity but also in terms of the quality of spirit sense. This could usually be brute-forced by Li Ling using his extremely plentiful 'loose' spirit sense, but the Infinite Slaughter System was strict about realms, not allowing advancement unless one achieved the prerequisite realm.

Li Ling could only stop here and go back to focusing on his refinement of Spirit Soil. However, the procedure was one of monotony and repetitiveness, so he quickly got distracted, checking through the various Sea of Consciousness of his majins, finding something interesting in Majin One.

.........…

A day ago, Majin One departed from Li Ling's side with the mission to find his family and extinguish them as well as himself. No matter what he thought about this, the order from his Supreme Master must be obeyed, and indeed, the reason for it was probably too profound for a mere him to understand.

That was what Majin One thought to himself as he rowed upon the sea of lava, eventually seeing Li Ling and his group of captured beauties leaving the area through the air. Even though Li Ling did not even pay him a single bit of mind, Majin One still paused and bowed toward the direction Li Ling passed until he became a dot on the horizon.

After that, he continued to travel for a few hours until he finally reached the edge of the lava sea, which was rapidly cooling into volcanic rock. As such, he ditched his stone raft and jumped onto the nearby ground, which was full of burnt grass due to the proximity of the lava sea, walking with a grim expression.

Majin One opened his void ring and found a communication talisman he had kept to be able to contact his woman should she ever encounter trouble while at the sect's hideout. He activated it and sent a message, waiting with a somber expression for about a minute or two before he got a tentative reply using a special code.

Sighing with relief that she actually answered—because finding her in this place would be like looking for a needle in a haystack—Majin One instantly gave the correct response back, which caused his woman to be filled with joy.

After all, she had seen the 'fake' Majin One, which was Li Ling, and knew that danger was about to happen. Because of that, she resolutely packed her things and rushed out of the village, coming to one of the nearby mortal villages to hide out for a few days.

Yesterday, she had tentatively gone back to see if her instinct was wrong and that she had overreacted when she was subjected to the horrible sight of the blood-soaked and corpse-ridden village, which had not been cleaned up at all and was now a haven for vultures and carrion feeders.

Pale-faced and terrified, she rushed back to her hiding place and immediately moved out, finding a random abandoned cave and moving her supplies there to hide out for an extended period, her paranoia surging to the limit.

When she got this message a few seconds ago, she had been filled with disbelief, for her assumption was that her husband was dead long ago. So she replied with the code immediately, wanting to verify if this was him or if it was the impostor that pretended to be him and had gotten access to his storage ring.

The immediate answer without hesitation caused her to be filled with joy, feeling extreme agitation that her bedrock had returned. While her relationship with him was not one of love—since she had been kidnapped to use as a relief tool for his body cultivation method—she already had a child with him and had enjoyed the other benefits that came with a powerful backer in the area.

When he asked where his son was, not even caring about her wellbeing, she was further convinced that it was truly him, because that was indeed how he was. This bastard treasured his son to an insane degree, especially seeing how clever and spirited the lad was, which was a superstitious sign of the possession of a spirit root.

As such, after a bit of hesitation, she directed him to the area they were at. Even though she had nagging doubts beneath the surface, as a Qi Refinement cultivator, she was privy to the knowledge that they were in what was essentially a death zone.

Her survival was not guaranteed even when hiding in a specially chosen place by the Fire Heart Sect, much less in a random cave like this. Unless she could find a stronger power willing to protect her and her son that she could trust, she would eventually perish anyway.

And there was no better person than the father of her child, who was invested in their survival, though hers was to a significantly lesser extent.

As such, she quickly tidied herself up and woke up the sleeping boy, who had been extremely tired from all the moving up and down. Even though children were usually naive, they were still able to read certain cues, and seeing his mother so stressed and paranoid every day had brought his spirits down.

So when his mother told him that his father was coming, the young lad immediately perked up and became excited, the duo coming to stand outside the cave hand in hand.

With a whoosh, Majin One arrived in the clearing, having traveled at his fastest speed without caring about anything else. As such, he was panting slightly and had a fine sheen of sweat on his forehead, but to his family, he only seemed even more reliable like this.

When his eyes fell on his son, they lit up with joy as Majin One received his son's running hug, lifting the boy up and spinning him around. His woman smiled at the sight, walking over demurely with a gentle grace in her step, finally feeling the stone in her heart dropping significantly.

Majin One spent the entire day with his family, having them recount their tale while reassuring them that everything would end soon. He especially spent time with his son, playing with him until the boy was absolutely tired and fell asleep in his arms.

Looking at the lovely boy who resembled him more than half, Majin One's eyes softened to an incomparable degree as he gently tapped the boy's chest, shattering his heart and ending his life painlessly.

This caused his woman, who was looking on with a soft and wistful expression, to go utterly berserk as she never could have expected this outcome. Yet no matter how much she screamed or tried to strike Majin One, he went about digging a grave for his son and placing the body within gently.

By this point, his woman was dead tired and unable to lift a finger, simply panting with bloodshot eyes full of hatred, to which Majin One sighed. Without explaining anything, he easily grasped her neck and snapped it, causing her to weaken and perish, but her hate-filled eyes never left him for one second, remaining open in death.

He also dug a grave for his woman, right beside that of his son.

Looking up at the afternoon sky through the canopies of the tree, Majin One reflected on his life, his achievements, and his regrets. In the end, he only wished he could have been more useful to his Supreme Master before death, only able to do this much.

He dug one final grave for himself, lying within before cycling his power in reverse, spitting out blood in agony and shattering his heart meridians, which was instant death with no chance of recovery.

And so, the end of Majin One, named Yao San, finally came.

.........…

Li Ling closed the book of Majin One's life, which had incidentally updated itself upon his death due to the strange relationship between the Dao Soldier Technique and Memory Archive Extraction.

He had gone through it rather slowly, so he got to feel the emotions and thoughts of Majin One throughout the process, which left him a bit dazed. The feeling of having to take the life of one's own progeny was something that Li Ling could not describe—a kind of pain that transcended emotional into the spiritual realm.

Yet Majin One still did it unhesitatingly, because of one order from Li Ling.

It seemed as if Li Ling had to reconsider the scope of the Dao Soldier Technique, and especially how to use it.
