They saw a group of Mechanical Giants walking towards them. Their bodies flickered with a cold metallic glow, their footsteps heavy and powerful, each step causing the ground to tremble slightly.
Shen Jingqi and Xu An's faces turned deathly pale in an instant. Shock spread across their faces like an electric current. They involuntarily stepped back a few paces, each step feeling like they were treading on sharp stones, filled with pain and panic. In their eyes, despair spread swiftly like ink, devouring the last shred of hope.
"How did those Mechanical Giants find us so quickly?" Xu An's voice trembled violently, like a candle flickering in the wind, ready to be extinguished at any moment.
Shen Jingqi bit his lip tightly, blood even seeping out, yet he remained oblivious. Could it really be as the leader said, that these Mechanical Giants have terrifyingly powerful tracking capabilities? At this thought, cold sweat soaked his back, and a chill crept up his spine.
Just as they were completely enveloped by despair, feeling the breath of death looming near, suddenly, a shrill alarm sounded, sharp enough to pierce the eardrum. That sound roared like it came from Hell, instantly breaking the suffocating silence.
The Mechanical Giants, which had been advancing menacingly towards them, suddenly stiffened, as if affected by some invisible force, and began to panic. Their massive bodies twisted in place restlessly, glancing around, letting out angry and slightly panicked roars. Those roars made the surrounding trees tremble, leaves falling in a flurry. However, they no longer advanced towards the cabin, as if some mysterious force was stopping them.
Joy surged within Shen Jingqi and Xu An, like a faint light suddenly illuminating the darkness. They did not know what had happened, but this was undoubtedly a perfect opportunity to escape. Shen Jingqi quickly reached out a hand, gently placed it on Xu An's shoulder, his eyes conveying urgency and determination: "Quick, take advantage now!"
The two cautiously opened the door, each step taken very lightly, fearing to make the slightest sound and alert the Mechanical Giants still in panic. They stooped low, like two mice sneaking in the dark, and quietly slipped out while the Mechanical Giants were disoriented.
As soon as they got out the door, they started running desperately. The wind howled past their ears, like furious beasts roaring. Their heartbeats felt as though they would burst out of their chests, each beat like a war drum pounding in their ears, urging them to quicken their pace. They dared not stop for a moment, as if stopping would allow the darkness and danger behind them to swallow them whole.
They didn't know if the Mechanical Giants would catch up again, nor did they know what lay ahead. Was it an even more terrifying trap? Or another nest of Mechanical Giants? But they knew they had to keep running to survive. That was their only belief at the moment, supporting them to continue on in the darkness.
They didn't know how long they had run, their legs felt like they were filled with lead, each step requiring all their strength. Finally, they could run no more and stopped. Leaning against a large tree, they panted heavily, sweat soaking through their clothes, making them shiver uncontrollably in the cold wind.
By then, the sky had gradually darkened, a layer of light fog enveloping the surroundings. The fog was like gray ribbons, entwining everything around, appearing particularly eerie and terrifying. The distant trees loomed in and out of the fog, as if they were clawed monsters ready to pounce.
"Jingqi, what should we do next?" Xu An's voice carried a hint of fatigue and confusion. He looked up, eyes filled with helplessness, gazing at Shen Jingqi.
Shen Jingqi looked into the distance, a trace of determination revealed in his eyes. His hands clenched into fists tightly, knuckles turning white from the force. "We can't keep running like this. We need to find that organization and join them. Perhaps they are the only ones who can help us escape the threat of the Mechanical Giants." His voice, though somewhat hoarse, was filled with undeniable determination.
Xu An hesitated for a moment, a flicker of fear crossing his eyes. Joining that organization meant facing more dangers and unknowns. But eventually, he nodded. He knew they had no choice now. Either join the organization, seeking a glimmer of hope; or continue fleeing in the dark until the Mechanical Giants caught up, or this perilous world swallowed them.
So, the two began to fumble forward in the dark. It was pitch-black, with not a hint of light. They could only tread each step carefully, guided by the faint moonlight. The ground beneath was rugged and uneven, occasionally stones and branches tripping them. But they ignored the pain in their bodies, getting up to continue forward.
They did not know where the base of that organization was, nor did they know what dangers awaited ahead. Was it ferocious beasts? Or hidden mechanical traps? But they had only one belief in their hearts, to survive and find a way to defeat the Mechanical Giants. This belief was like a beacon in the dark, guiding them as they continued to forge ahead.
In the days that followed, they faced countless hardships and dangers. One day, they walked into a dense forest. The forest was filled with a putrid stench, making people nauseous. The towering trees were so dense, they blocked out the sky, sunlight barely able to penetrate the canopy.
Suddenly, a low growling sound came from ahead. The sound echoed through the forest like distant thunder, sending chills down their spines. Shen Jingqi and Xu An's hearts tightened, and they quickly hid behind a large tree, peeking out cautiously to observe ahead.
A huge beast slowly emerged from the woods. The beast was shaped like an ox but bore sharp tusks, its eyes like burning flames, emitting a fierce glare. It warily glanced around, its nose twitching constantly, as if searching for something.
Shen Jingqi and Xu An dared not make a sound, their bodies pressing tightly against the tree, fearing to make any noise. The beast lingered nearby for a while, seeming not to notice them, then slowly turned and left. Once the beast was far away, they breathed a sigh of relief, slumping to the ground.
"This forest is too dangerous; we must leave here quickly." Xu An said with lingering fear, his face still bearing traces of terror.
Shen Jingqi nodded, stood up, and patted the dust from his clothes: "Let's go, we need to keep moving forward."
