Running A Cemetery in North America

Chapter 117: The One Who Cheats Fate and Evades Death

"What do we do now?"

Sosia looked at the shattered coffin, "I can feel a very evil aura, perhaps even more dangerous than Andros."

"We're trapped in the Land of the Profane. We must find that thing and destroy it if we ever hope to escape."

Sun Yan reached up and lowered the Nuo Mask from his forehead, a gleam of determination flashing in his eyes.

Since he discovered that the Demon Power in the Golden Seal could activate the Nuo Mask, General Sun Mask, Golden Halberd, and even the Mo Lihai Artwork on his back, unleashing an unprecedented power.

Sun Yan had yet to battle a powerful Evil Spirit, and now this seemed like the perfect opportunity.

Just then, the notebook in his pocket began to vibrate, signaling a new mission had arrived.

He took out the notebook to find new content had appeared.

---

Since helping Chief Henry solve a case back in the apartment, Sun Yan hadn't received two missions simultaneously in a long time.

The sudden appearance of these two instance missions made Sun Yan realize a blind spot.

Though both missions had appeared, he seemed unable to complete them both simultaneously.

Eliminating the one evading fate and helping the Yin Messengers to claim souls were two completely different outcomes.

Meaning he could only earn one reward at most.

Seeing the first instance mission offered material for the Tomb Guardian's promotion, Sun Yan's heart surged with excitement.

He currently had only one Tomb Guardian, and enhancing the True Monarch of Pure Origin and Mysterious Dao's Divine Statue's quality was imperative.

Come what may, he had to obtain this reward.

Putting the notebook away, Sun Yan asked Sosia beside him, "Can you catch the scent of that thing?"

Sosia held a broken coffin plank to her nose, and as a werewolf, her sense of smell was incredibly keen.

Even with the heavy blood scent in the room, Sosia could discern hundreds of different odors.

The most crucial being the direction the thing originally in the coffin had gone.

"Follow me."

A few seconds later, Sosia seemed to have made a discovery and immediately stood up and walked outside, with Sun Yan quickly following.

In the green glowing corridor, Sosia quickly strode to the staircase, soon reaching the eighth floor.

At the end of the eighth-floor corridor, there was a tall figure clumsily hopping forward, advancing slowly.

It wore a Ruby Headdress, Nine Python Five Claw Robe, and Qilin Embroidered Robe, dressed like a First-Grade Scholar of the Great Qing.

Seeing this moment with his own eyes left Sun Yan briefly bewildered.

"Zombie?"

The corpse, which had been hopping forward, suddenly stopped and slowly turned around.

It had a green face, fierce fangs, its skin hugging its bones, complexion a deathly green, covered in corpse spots and green hair, with a pair of ghostly white eyes staring silently at Sun Yan and Sosia.

Its drooping hands grew sharp claws at a speed visible to the naked eye.

What intrigued Sun Yan most was that the thing wore a Copper Coin Mask, resembling a combination of a mask and door curtain, covering most of the zombie's face.

As the zombie moved, the strings of Five Emperors Coins on the Copper Coin Mask jingled, creating a haunting sound.

"Careful!" Sun Yan quickly warned.

Before his words had fully left his mouth, the zombie, now moving at a completely different speed, lunged directly at him.

"Roar!"

Sosia let out a furious roar as her body rapidly sprouted dark brown fur, and her head transformed into a wolf's.

Before the zombie could land, Sosia had already pounced, fiercely scratching at the zombie's chest.

Yet, unexpectedly, the zombie's body was as hard as an iron wall, and Sosia's claws, which could mark concrete walls, had no effect.

Instead, with a swipe of its hand, the zombie sent Sosia flying, crashing heavily into a wall.

Sun Yan maintained a stern demeanor, holding the Golden Halberd in front of him, as the Demon Power in the Golden Seal was summoned, causing the Golden Halberd to shine brightly.

Seeing the zombie lunge again, Sun Yan swung powerfully, slashing with the Golden Halberd.

The blade sliced through the zombie's hand, splitting it cleanly in two.

His heart settled; although zombies were rare, his Magical Artifact seemed superior.

He swung the halberd's handle again, ready to chop at the zombie once more.

Just then, at the corridor's end, a flickering tungsten bulb failed to stay lit due to faulty wiring.

A figure cloaked in black slowly emerged, holding a rattle that jingled, prompting a reaction from the zombie.

It took a backward leap, evading Sun Yan's slash.

"Reasoning with spirits ready to die is futile. Young friend, I've always felt you were quite agreeable, and I've warned you multiple times to leave the Youma Community. Yet, here you are, stubbornly refusing to listen. This encounter tonight means I can't spare you any longer."

The person lifted the hood covering their face, revealing an aged visage.

Sun Yan was immediately shocked, "It's you!"

"Heh, hard to accept, isn't it? I never meant to harm you; you brought this upon yourself."

Ma Glasses stared at Sun Yan with an eerie smile, "You aren't even from this area, so why get involved? Life is hard; you're only harming yourself. People like you in good health wouldn't understand life's value."

Upon hearing this, Sun Yan had a sudden realization: "So you're the one the Yin Messengers are after for a soul!"

"Oh, hearing that, I guess you've encountered those endless spirits already," Ma Glasses didn't deny it, nodding and saying, "Yes, it's me. Five years ago, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor, with little time left. I searched everywhere for a life-extension solution, but those Yin Messengers targeted me, even following me from the Underworld to the Human World to oppose me."

Ma Glasses spoke through gritted teeth, visibly angered.

"I merely have a brain disease. Must it lead to death? Even ants have a survival instinct, let alone a living person. I just want to live; what's wrong with that?"

Sun Yan furrowed his brows, "You wish to live, but didn't Xiao Bao also want to? Why did you kill him? He was just an innocent child."

"Have you ever heard 'An army is easy to find, but one general is hard to come by'? Saving a master like me is worth sacrificing a thousand ordinary lives.

The boy's mother, following my instructions, kept him hungry and underfed, surviving only on offerings, turning his body into top-grade child's flesh,

I refined Xiao Bao's father into a zombie for years, with pure Yin Energy and Yuan. Just adding child's blood could turn him into a corpse, then filling the zombie with soulless Evil Spirits would create an ultimate Yin Body, a legendary 'Corpse Demon.'

With this body, I could rejuvenate, reborn for a second life, eliminating any Yin Messengers or brain tumors easily.

A few mortals to grant me life, such immense virtue! In the next life, entering the Six Paths of Reincarnation, they might be born into a wealthy family."

Ma Glasses laughed wickedly.

The sight made Sun Yan shake his head. This person was spouting nonsense, clearly deranged, utterly lost to madness, leaving no room for reason.

Only by eliminating him on the spot could this threat be neutralized, preventing further harm to innocent people.
