Abyss Sequence

Chapter 10: The Missing Investment Target

"This is the magic adaptability growth curve of the experimental mouse 'Bone Marrow No. 1.'

Sasa projected a chart, explaining her discovery to the already stunned Yan Luo: "After injecting Bone Marrow No. 1 with your marrow, I closely monitored its various indicators. Initially, it didn't show any abnormalities, which puzzled me. Clearly, your blood can cause animals with magic adaptability to gather magic power on their own, so why didn't any mutation occur after the marrow injection? So, I conducted various tests on Bone Marrow No. 1 and ultimately discovered that its magic adaptability had improved."

When she found out about this, Sasa's reaction was even more unhinged than Yan Luo's, and she felt like she was going crazy.

Yan Luo's magic adaptability is extremely low. Even now, his magic adaptability still hasn't improved. The most recent test was half a month ago, and up until then, Yan Luo's magic adaptability remained extremely low.

But now, Sasa had independently discovered through her research that Yan Luo's marrow could enhance the magic adaptability of experimental animals. This... this is utterly ridiculous!

Sasa seriously suspected that the reason why Yan Luo was targeted by a City-breaking Level Demon might be due to his marrow, in addition to his blood.

Yan Luo really has become like Tang Monk now; although eating him won't grant immortality, it can enhance one's magic adaptability and make magic power naturally gather towards oneself, making level advancement easier.

The higher the magic adaptability, the easier the Engraving becomes. If Yan Luo needed to, he might be able to produce many Engravers in a short time.

With Yan Luo's recovery ability, he can continuously consume the blood and flesh of demons to restore himself to normal, while extracting marrow and injecting it into people to enhance their magic adaptability, and then performing Engraving on them...

Just thinking about it made Sasa feel terrified.

"How is this possible?"

Yan Luo looked down at his hands, suddenly feeling a bit unfamiliar with himself.

What did he do to deserve such a terrifying ability?

"I have already destroyed Bone Marrow No. 1," Sasa said abruptly. "I will only keep physical records of these experiments and store them with you. I will delete all other electronic records and clear everything. From now on, let's not mention this matter again, not even to Li Xinyue, until your strength becomes formidable enough, only then can we consider making this matter public."

Yan Luo nodded solemnly, "That's how it should be!"

If this matter were to be made public, his outcome would undoubtedly be unfavorable. At the very least, he would lose his freedom, and he couldn't even begin to imagine how many studies and experiments he might be subjected to.

"You should go up now, don't disturb me here," Sasa waved her hand as she began to clean up the experimental records.

Yan Luo pursed his lips, thinking, "Are you the master of this place, or am I?"

Keeping his grumblings to himself, Yan Luo turned and left the lab.

After learning from Sasa that his marrow could enhance magic adaptability, Yan Luo was jolted awake, his earlier drowsiness completely dissipated.

Since he no longer felt sleepy, he decided to attend to some pending matters.

Yan Luo contacted Jin Miaomiao to inquire about her work progress.

Jin Miaomiao, who was watching a drama, immediately sat up straight and hurriedly reported her work accomplishments to Yan Luo.

She had selected a few manufacturers with good reputations and high offers for Yan Luo, and these manufacturers were all serious businesses, not involved in counterfeiting or image licensing and the like.

Yan Luo found her response a bit odd but didn't give it much thought. As far as he was concerned, as long as she completed the work, she was a good assistant.

"What about the other task?" Yan Luo asked.

Jin Miaomiao breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing this, thankful she glanced over her checklist before relaxing. Had she accidentally missed that task, she felt she might have been fired by Yan Luo.

"Boss, are you looking to invest in foundational disciplines of pure technology that do not use materials from the Abyss? I previously searched around and found that no one is conducting research in this area anymore. Well, not entirely; it's just that those who claim to be researching pure technology foundational disciplines are mostly disreputable, with some people being outright pseudoscientists who have a limited understanding of science and are simply trying to scam money," Jin Miaomiao reported her findings to Yan Luo.

After listening, Yan Luo asked, "Not even one?"

"Not even one!" Jin Miaomiao subtly claimed credit with Yan Luo, "I spent several days sorting through all the universities and specialist colleges in the world, and also looked at the investment information from many big companies, and found that the kind of person you're looking for never existed from the start."

Although since the start of the Abyss Calendar, many universities have conducted research on Abyss materials, now seventy years on, technological development has become inseparable from the Abyss.

But no matter how closely linked to the Abyss, there should still be at least one researcher focusing on pure technology foundational disciplines, right?

Yan Luo was very puzzled, so he sent a message to Sasa.

Sasa, being a student at Lingquan University, might know something about this matter.

The outcome was evident: Sasa had no knowledge about this subject and recommended that Yan Luo consult with Li Jiongming, a professor who was born during the Lost Decade and experienced the entire process of Blue Star's collapse and recovery, as he might know something.

Yan Luo acted quickly and immediately sent a message to Li Jiongming.

Li Jiongming's reply was prompt, as he was probably resting.

"Research in the foundational disciplines of pure technology? Yan Luo, what are you looking for this for?"

"To eliminate the Abyss!" Yan Luo replied resolutely.

Sitting in his office, in the midst of applying for research funding from the school, Li Jiongming instantly grasped the situation.

Yan Luo wanted to completely eliminate the Abyss, yet with Blue Star's current deep entanglement with the Abyss, directly eliminating it would collapse the existing technological system based on the Abyss, so Yan Luo needed to find a substitute.

Realizing this, Li Jiongming couldn't help but take a sharp breath.

— Exactly how insane is this man to want to support Blue Star's foundational discipline research single-handedly!

Even though he had already heard from Sasa that there was something mentally amiss with Yan Luo, this was simply too abnormal. Even patients in a mental hospital might not be crazier than him.

"There is no one doing that anymore," Li Jiongming gently comforted Yan Luo. "During the Lost Decade, too much was lost, so in the years following it, no new things were researched again. It was only by incorporating the Abyss that we embarked on a new path of development."

"Understood, Professor Li, thank you for your explanation." Yan Luo thanked Li Jiongming and then ended the call.

— He doesn't believe it!

Even though both Jin Miaomiao and Li Jiongming claimed that there are no researchers in the foundational disciplines of pure technology anymore, Yan Luo simply doesn't believe it.

So, Yan Luo turned to Sasa again.

"Sasa, give me the contacts for the black market."

Finding Yan Luo suddenly asking for black market contacts, Sasa found it odd and couldn't resist asking, to which she received a rather absurd answer.

Now that Yan Luo is wealthy, as long as he spreads the word, there'll be plenty of people eager to research foundational disciplines solely by technological means.

But Yan Luo didn't seem to want that. He wanted to find a researcher who had been using technological means to investigate foundational disciplines since the past.

Since he has money and the privilege to be capricious, he should be let be, knowing that he'd turn back after hitting a brick wall.

Sasa knew she couldn't dissuade Yan Luo. He was already obsessed with the idea of 'eliminating the Abyss' to an extreme degree, and even if the whole world were opposed, he would still follow through with his plan.

And developing foundational disciplines is the major premise for Yan Luo's 'eliminating the Abyss' plan.

After acquiring the black market contacts from Sasa, Yan Luo didn't immediately post a bounty. He first had to contact the endorsement manufacturers to confirm the cooperation intentions and remuneration, so he could immediately invest once he found a researcher.

He simply didn't believe that in such a vast world, there wasn't a single researcher conducting foundational discipline research using solely technological means!
