Abyss Sequence

Chapter 50: Advanced Weapons

Ibrahim Ben-Yisa focused on the surveillance and saw the Whistling Wind Toad jump out from the entrance, with a flicker in his eyes.

"Sir, shall we attack?" the adjutant asked Ibrahim.

Ibrahim glanced at his adjutant and asked back, "What is our duty?"

The adjutant stood straight and replied loudly, "To prevent any demons from appearing on Blue Star's land!"

"Then what did you just ask?" Ibrahim's gaze seemed to burn through his adjutant's eyes.

The adjutant pressed his lips tight and lowered his head, "I'm sorry, sir!"

"Your apology is not to me, but to the mission you bear on your shoulders!"

Ibrahim pushed the adjutant aside and used the internal communication channel of the outpost to inform all soldiers to prepare for battle with the Whistling Wind Toad.

Although the outpost is located in the wilderness, it is equipped with many military weapons because it needs to guard an Abyss Entrance, and all soldiers have C-grade exoskeletons, while officers have B-grade ones.

All equipment and arms are provided by the United Government, making it a moderate force in the mid-domain, a power that both chieftains and rulers strive for.

Ibrahim and the adjutant hail from the camps of two different rulers, engaged in overt and covert competition here, both trying to take control of the outpost's arms.

They don't dare to directly seize them, but the idea of lining their pockets is something they not only have but hold in high regard.

At this moment, a technician investigating Yan Luo's identity also provided Ibrahim with Yan Luo's credentials, confirming that Yan Luo had entered the Crimson Abyss not long ago.

The rocket launcher nests were raised consecutively, and the five electromagnetic railguns stationed in front of the outpost turned accordingly.

Since only one City-breaking Level Demon jumped out of the entrance, if a demon tide appeared here, then hundreds of machine gun turrets hidden under the sand would also rise.

Rockets soared from their nests into the sky, trailing fierce flames as they sped toward the Whistling Wind Toad.

The Whistling Wind Toad didn't know what those sticks flying from the sky were, but could sense danger within them.

The demon took a deep breath, inflating its belly sharply, then opened its big mouth, expelling all the air held inside.

The rockets didn't hit the Whistling Wind Toad but were shattered by the wind bullet it expelled.

A dozen rockets ended up the same way, without exception.

Seeing this scene, Ibrahim furrowed his brows.

City-breaking Level Demons are indeed troublesome; we can't hit them.

Fortunately, the five electromagnetic railguns were ready, firing immediately.

The dazzling arc light seemed to tear through heaven and earth, with the accelerated tungsten-titanium alloy bullets traveling at unwritten Mach speeds, almost hitting the Whistling Wind Toad the instant they left the rail.

Since the bullets were not enchanted, they dealt little damage to the deflection shields, with the five bullets guided to veer sideways.

However, the electromagnetic railgun isn't single-shot; once charged, it can enable rapid-fire mode.

Arcs of light fired continuously like an endless river, pushing a powerful tide, colliding violently.

Despite being bombarded simultaneously by all five railguns, the Whistling Wind Toad still managed to leap forward, chasing Yan Luo.

Meanwhile, more rockets rose into the air.

When the Whistling Wind Toad raised its head to spit wind bullets, they were shattered by the electromagnetic railguns, and once the shockwave reached the rockets, it had become as gentle as a spring breeze.

A dozen rockets plunged to the ground, releasing immense energy instantaneously.

Yan Luo, racing away from the entrance, immediately sensed the heatwave rushing behind him, and the blast wave from the rocket explosion swept against his back, pressing his body forward, causing his chest to hit the dashboard on the vehicle.

Even after such a powerful attack, the Whistling Wind Toad hadn't died.

When the railguns overheated, the Whistling Wind Toad let out a cry, dispersing the surrounding smoke.

With one leg broken, it leaped angrily from the flying dust, spitting wind bullets furiously toward the outpost several kilometers away.

Twenty machine gun turrets rose, with bullets firing continuously, weaving a tight network of firepower in the air, shredding the wind bullets to pieces.

At this time, a space-based kinetic weapon system came overhead at the outpost, targeting the Whistling Wind Toad, suddenly projecting a dense metal spike.

As it broke through the atmosphere, the metal spike engaged in intense friction with the air, maintaining the stance of a meteor descending from the sky, pinning the Whistling Wind Toad fiercely to the ground.

In the Abyss, City-breaking Level Demons might be hard to deal with, but on Blue Star, it's human territory.

Even without Engravers, humans can use their invented technological weapons to kill demons, just that utilizing Engravers is more cost-effective.

Launching a space-based weapon once costs at least a million, this being a price compressed to the extreme.

After using the electromagnetic railgun once, it needs maintenance and repair, costing at least one hundred eighty thousand, and if any issues are found, the cost could approach five million.

Not to mention regular maintenance costs, just maintaining an outpost requires nearly twenty thousand a day from the United Government.

In comparison, employing Engravers is much cheaper.

The United Government had considered using Engraving on all soldiers, but most soldiers never enter the Abyss even once in their lifetime, and their strength wouldn't significantly increase even with Engraving, so the plan was abandoned.

Watching the motorcycle drive tenaciously across the land through surveillance, Ibrahim suddenly asked the technician, "What sequence is that Hunter?"

They rescued that Hunter from the demon, it wouldn't be excessive to demand some compensation from him.

Ibrahim wanted to know Yan Luo's level, estimating his income, to then... take some compensation.

This outpost typically doesn't yield much profit, with the meager revenue from arms dealings not enough for the fifty or so people at the outpost, so what's wrong with finding ways to earn extra?

Clearly, the technician knew what his officer was thinking, but he truly felt troubled.

"Report, sir..." The technician looked at Yan Luo's data, falling into silence, after several seconds he said with a complex tone, "He... doesn't have Engraving."

"No Engraving..."

Ibrahim froze for a few seconds before reacting, exclaiming, "He's the Hunter without Engraving?!"

Working at this outpost, there are hardly any recreational activities, few things that relieve soldiers' boredom, except occasional communication with the external world.

Yan Luo's name was widely spread online previously, and even soldiers stationed at such a geographically isolated outpost had heard of 'Yan Luo's name.

At this moment, others at the outpost also came to realization.

No doubt it's Yan Luo, as an ordinary person, he survived the chase of a City-breaking Level Demon, even managing to navigate through the Bewildering Palace back to Blue Star.

Right now, soldiers looked at the man slowly straightening his back on the surveillance screen with much admiration.

Yan Luo once again achieved miraculous feats with a mortal body, perhaps he truly is Blue Star's 'strongest mortal'.

Engravers are already extraordinary beings, with powers transcending ordinary existence, not on the same level as regular people.

Yan Luo is a true strongman who, entirely without external aid, survived beneath a City-breaking Level Demon through his own wits.

"Watch out, there's another one!"

Yan Luo's shout abruptly woke everyone, then they plunged into another bout of bewilderment.

What does 'there's another one' mean?

Shortly after the Whistling Wind Toad was eliminated, the Thunder Lizard crawled out from the Abyss Entrance.

The Thunder Lizard was very uncomfortable with the sun overhead, and the scant moisture in the air completely restricted its capabilities.

"Do not use precision weapons, that's a Thunder Lizard!"

If rockets are used, the Thunder Lizard can directly disrupt the precision instruments inside the rockets, preventing them from flying or exploding normally.

If attacking with railguns... it would be a disaster, akin to handing a murder weapon to a killer.

But as Yan Luo shouted those words, the railguns had already fired.

Without prior charging, the arcs pulled out in the air weren't too dazzling, but the power encapsulated in the shells was still immense.

The Thunder Lizard instantly seized it, gripping the shell in its hand.

Under the push of magnetic force, the shell floated slowly, the Thunder Lizard merely waved its claw, and the electromagnetic shell instantly returned its original track.

In a mere moment, two railguns were destroyed, and the remaining three experienced malfunctions.
