Chapter 60: Sword of Oath and Victory

The sound of urgent hoofbeats resounded.

Just as Duncan was preparing to organize the troops to board the ships, Severus hurriedly came forward, anxiously saying, "Follow me."

What has happened?

Duncan stopped his steps, signaled to Clegane beside him, then mounted his horse to follow Severus ahead.

Severus led him straight towards the direction of the Avalon sacrificial stones, where more than a dozen hooded Druids had already gathered, whispering and chanting something. On both sides were pools filled with spring water, seemingly maintaining some special ritual magic.

The mist gradually rose.

As Duncan stepped into the Avalon sacrificial stones, he immediately felt as if he had entered another dimension space, surrounded by mist with the sound of crystal-clear flowing water.

——Tethys (Lake Fairy) (Fairy) (Elf) (three-star gold).

Unlike the previous meeting, this time the Lake Fairy appeared directly as a three-star golden unit. Her form coalesced in the mist, handing a peculiar longsword to Duncan before her. This sword was about 1.2 meters long, its guard made of gold, its hilt studded with gems, and its sharp blade emitted a trace of cold gleam.

Tethys held this divine weapon in front of Duncan, saying gravely, "It is not yet fully forged."

"The power of the scabbard is merely attached to the sword body."

"This battle is exceedingly perilous. Take it with you now, and return it to Avalon later."

Duncan slowly reached out to take the divine weapon before him, solemnly asking, "What is its name?"

The Guardian Fairy replied slowly, "The Sword of Oath and Victory!"

Beside this holy sword was an ordinary metal scabbard, with elegant patterns drawn by elves on its surface, inlaid with gold and jewels. However, it was not a true scabbard but rather a temporary container for the holy sword.

——"The Sword of Oath and Victory [Legendary Sword] [King's Sword] (Incomplete): Avalon, shrouded in mist, faced immense pressure from the Church and ultimately decided to take a bold risk.

The Guardian Fairies gathered the power of the elves to forge this holy sword. It is the physical manifestation of Avalon myth. Its existence would sustain Avalon, and when it perishes, Avalon will also disappear.

The truly powerful force is within its scabbard.

But the scabbard is still being nurtured in the deepest part of the mist-covered Avalon, not yet completely manifesting a physical entity in reality.

Features: Divine Weapon, Holy Sword, Armor Piercing, Indestructible, Magic Enhancement, able to attack non-real entities, able to directly harm spirit bodies."

——"Avalon Scabbard [Legendary Object] (Incomplete): The supernatural power nurtured by Avalon and attached to the Sword of Oath and Victory. The scabbard does not yet have a physical entity in the real world, so it only possesses a small portion of power. It allows the holder to ignore any damage causing continuous bleeding effects; wounds will heal at a speed far surpassing that of mortals, but will consume one's own mana bar.

Additional Features: Unweary, Physical Enhancement, Immunity to Continuous Bleeding State."

Hiss!

This must be the strongest weapon Duncan currently possesses.

After holding the Sword of Oath and Victory, Duncan's energy bar limit directly increased by one-third, almost half a projection screen length. This means he can venture in and out amidst thousands of troops without worrying about exhausting his physical strength and reaching a 'fatigue' state.

Duncan's mana bar increased slightly, but not much, only half the length of a little finger. During the end of the myth era, everyone's magic power was heavily suppressed.

The Unweary status decreases physical consumption, similar to unflagging intoxication, meaning there's no need to drink to a state of soggy drunkenness.

Duncan is highly unlikely to drink on the battlefield, as reckless states make one prone to losing one's senses.

The Sword of Oath and Victory forged by Avalon's faith—this time taking out the unfinished semi-finished product—was also the Guardian Fairies of Avalon betting big. If Duncan wields this sword to fame on the battlefield, Avalon's faith would breach the blockade line of Great Britain Island.

Their faith is only a minor regional belief within the British Province. If they can seize the opportunity, maybe it can spread among the Celtic population elsewhere.

The holy sword must be held by a king to own a magnificent legend!

The Guardian Fairies of Avalon can no longer wait for ten years later, for an uncertain prophetic legend, for King Arthur, the Red Dragon of Great Britain Island. Now, they're betting heavily on Duncan; unlike the large-scale Norse Pantheon, the Avalon faith is small and adept at making quick decisions; the nine Guardian Fairies just need a discussion to immediately reach a decision.

This move indeed emptied their coffers.

If Duncan wielded it and lost in battle, even if the Sword of Oath and Victory was completed and fell into King Arthur's hands in the future, its renown would be heavily diminished.

Because this is its first appearance in history!

Clang.

The holy sword returned to its scabbard.

Duncan slightly nodded towards the Guardian Fairy before him, turned, and left these Avalon sacrificial stones. Behind him, Severus's gaze was complicated, showing a hint of worry.

If only developing steadily, Duncan wouldn't struggle to unify Great Britain Island.

Severus tended towards the conservative faction.

But what Duncan decides can't be changed by others. Severus can only safeguard the homeland, hoping Duncan achieves some merits.

Vast blue sky, sails unfurled.

Unlike the last time Duncan escorted Crow Queen-Triss to Great Britain Island, this time he acted as one of the island's nobles, responding to the Empire's final large-scale war summons, leading over two thousand troops across the sea into the heart of Gaul, to confront the legendary God's Whip—Attila.

Duncan didn't even bring much logistical supplies, directly preparing to sustain the war with war itself. With his capability, he could adequately seize from the enemy.

Exile Camp.

After entering the Gaul Region in present-day France, Duncan ordered the army to camp at the former exile camp, while he personally led a cavalry unit to probe the battlefield situation.

Though the enemy bypassed Paris, Huns were accustomed to plundering supplies, and plentiful small Huns troops pillaged everywhere, setting the Gaul Region ablaze with war.

The Battle of Sharon had two phases.

The first phase was when God's Whip—Attila led the army to besiege Orléans City; the Empire's Eagle Flag Legion, Germanic Barbarian allied forces, Western Goth cavalry, among others, rushed in to offer support. Lacking siege capabilities, Attila couldn't conquer after prolonged attempts, compelling him to change battlefields, seeking an opportune moment to annihilate the Empire's coalition forces.

The second phase was when God's Whip—Attila learned the Empire's coalition forces were nearing Orléans City, promptly withdrawing and heading northward. Meanwhile, he ordered the Huns troops plundering Gaul to assemble towards Champagne Plain. Aetius led the army in pursuit, and both forces eventually encountered each other near the Marne River at Sharon, in the expansive Catalonian Great Plain, each casting their decisive battle stance.

The war is still in its first phase now.

God's Whip-Attila's elite main force is besieging the city of Orléans, while other Huns units are raiding various regions in Gaul. The Huns on horseback come and go like the wind, almost plundering the nearby areas entirely.

Currently, it is at the stage of small-scale skirmishes.

To truly have a decisive battle with the Hun Empire's army, we must wait for the Protector of the Realm-Aetius to join forces with the elite cavalry of the Western Goths. The main resistance force now consists of local Roman legions and the Barbarian Race troops unwilling to submit to the Hun Empire.

Duncan had already sent out three scouting rides at this point to explore the situation around Paris, even stationing a small elite force at the Bandit Stronghold he had slaughtered.

The next day, the sound of hooves rang out.

Clegane led five Sarmatian riders in a hurry. An arrow had struck him in the back, but it wasn't a big issue, just breaking some skin, as the Hun elite shooters' long-range volleys didn't pose much threat to them.

"Another Hun unit is raiding near Paris!"

Clegane dismounts hurriedly, looking excited, "There aren't many of them, only over a hundred Hun riders, the rest are Gepids."

This is part of the Hun alliance; they have summoned a large Vassal Army.

Over a hundred Hun riders?

The battle is on!

Duncan glanced at the arrow in Clegane's back, feeling familiar, and thought to himself, "Hun Eagle Shooter?"

The arrows they use are more refined, and the feather part differs from ordinary shooters.

Usually, they use eagle or hawk feathers.

Common Hun shooters mostly use goose or bird feathers, along with various other types that are easier to distinguish.

"Gather the cavalry units!"

Duncan had no intention of bringing the infantry, as they could never catch up with the Hun riders. He led a cavalry force of 127 men to approach a small town near Paris being raided by the Huns.

Speed is crucial in warfare.

By the time the infantry arrives, the enemy might already have looted and fled.

Duncan intended to counter-raid them!

The local native Britons who arrived did not know the situation, but most of the troops he personally brought had some riding skill. As long as they could capture enemy warhorses, they could quickly transform into mounted infantry.

Some could adapt quickly, immediately becoming qualified light cavalry, as there were native Britons who could ride.

The recruited Sarmatians could become cavalry units at any time.

Dimension Space, God's perspective.

On Duncan's strategic map, he quickly saw the Hun scout riders about forty kilometers from Paris. They moved in large scale, then dispersed locally to plunder. Encountering strong enemies, they would retreat, rejoin other raiding parties, and use their cavalry advantage to encircle on the local battlefield, directly annihilating smaller enemy forces.

Thus, Hun cavalry ravaged the Gaul Region, leaving various forces a bit helpless.

Those who could fight couldn't catch up.

Those who could catch up couldn't win.

With even a slight error in command during the war situation, the troops could be kited to death by the Hun elite. When they miraculously won, the enemy would immediately flee, and within days, hun raiders in the vicinity could gather, forming thousands of troops, achieving overwhelming superiority against the Germanic Barbarian Race.

That's how the Huns played rogue.

If facing unfavorable war conditions, they could leave behind the Vassal Army to cover the retreat of the real Hun forces. Losing some Vassal Army troops was not a problem as long as the Hun main force was unaffected.

With each victory in battle, the Huns would recruit a vast number of Vassal Army troops, often sacrificing these troops in war while suffering minimal personal losses.

Before Duncan arrived, they had already devastated the Gaul Region.

This is an advanced tactical suppression ahead of the time.

Even when facing Mongolian cavalry in the future, European troops would not have a good solution.

In the wilderness, it's the Huns' domain.

Currently, nearly no troops in a field battle can engage them and achieve a complete victory; most suffer losses, and only a few can annihilate small Hun units and Vassal Army.

——Hun Eagle Shooter (Two-Star Silver Gray)!

——Hun Elite Rider.

——Gepid Heavy Infantry (One-Star).

——Gepid Vassal Rider.

In this war, the Hun units came and went like the wind. Even infantry was equipped with pack horses, allowing them to move quickly as mounted infantry on the battlefield.

"Follow me!"

Duncan led the charge, with nearly a hundred cavalrymen approaching the battlefield.

Hun scout cavalry had already detected the enemy but, noticing their small numbers, under the leadership of Hun Eagle Shooters, attempted to kite in the open field to heavily damage them. Mounted archery, though not highly accurate, can still form a covering fire when over a hundred Hun elite shooters shoot together in a local small battlefield.

Moreover, a small number of heavy cavalry among them could charge head-on and break enemy lines at key moments. The fighting power of Hun light cavalry was also strong, able to defeat most enemy light cavalry without shooting.

The Huns are indeed a nation of horseback.

Ignoring Duncan, this Hun unit would have significant advantages!
