Chapter 43: Surprise Assault and Seizure of the City! The Might of a Decisive Victory!

Night fell.

Anya's supernatural ability left her feeling refreshed and at ease.

Inside the tent.

Duncan carried a bow and sword, while the Crow Queen, Triss, gently adjusted his armor. As her pale fingers touched the red mark on Duncan's neck, she couldn't help but roll her eyes at him, speaking with a soft tone of admonition, "A great battle is imminent; how can you indulge so recklessly?"

This must be due to Anya's charm; when we return, she'll get a proper talking-to.

Nearby, Anya was half-kneeling, fastening Duncan's waist armor. Upon hearing this, she trembled slightly, genuinely afraid of the Crow Queen, Triss.

Duncan grasped Triss's pale hand, smiling apologetically, "I was infatuated with beauty; it's not her fault."

"It's no problem."

"Just a little warm-up for the bones."

On hearing this, Anya's eyes, like blossoming peach flowers, instantly sparkled with anticipation, eager to serve further.

The Crow Queen, Triss glared at her, finished equipping Duncan with Ranger Chain Armor, and spoke with weighty tone, "After all, we are deep within enemy lines, and should things go awry, we must retreat immediately."

She was still somewhat worried.

The Crow Queen, Triss was not yet aware of Duncan's solo exploits in Devon, though rumors had been heard, only a few knew the details.

Duncan patted her hand reassuringly, "No worries, I'm well-prepared."

Southampton is not a high-walled fortress; with my vantage point, no one can stop me from leaving.

I've already fought at the Heroic Spirit Hall!

What's this in comparison?

Too bad Anya wasn't there in the audience at the Heroic Spirit Hall.

Severus had already transformed into an animal form and infiltrated; Duncan planned to charge in alone, seize the city gate, and let allies enter, first using a small elite force to secure the gate, then allowing the main forces to penetrate.

Everything must be quick!

Tonight, under the Crow Queen, Triss's magic, a faint mist enveloped the vicinity of Southampton.

She could change the weather.

Last time encountering Saxon pirates on the open sea, it was the Crow Queen, Triss who shifted the wind direction; her magic was not so great at direct confrontation but proved invaluable in other aspects. Felt somewhat akin to the old Three Kingdoms game, where a Yellow Turban general uses a demon technique.

God's eye view.

Duncan's figure stealthily infiltrated Southampton. On a nearby rooftop chimney, a crow marked as 'Druid-Severus.'

"There are many enemies."

Duncan glanced at the marked units on the projection page; near Southampton's city gate, there were three hundred-man squads, one stationed directly at the gate sides, the other two alternating patrol replacements, well-defended, likely because they suffered in Devon, they strengthened defenses here.

"Detected Wind of Magic!"

On the projection page in Dimension Space, a series of characters emerged then quickly vanished.

This was the Dimension Space capturing Crow Queen, Triss, casting a spell.

Duncan didn't have this alert before he activated the Mana Bar; after he attained a Mana Bar and mastered the 'Rune Language,' this kind of spell identification alert appeared.

Even, on the projection page, an unseen Wind of Magic surged.

Previously, the projection screen just appeared slightly blurry, whereas now, the Wind of Magic was visibly clear, allowing identification of the approximate location of the spellcasting unit.

This was very useful; Duncan could pinpoint hidden spellcasters.

"This strengthens my ability, enhancing God's eye view's effectiveness."

——Sleep Spell (Ritual Magic).

At the Crow Queen, Triss's feet was a strange ritual array; she held an ancient emblem, her voice melodious as a Sea Demon, but only a rare few could hear, soon they became drowsy, eventually falling unconscious right where they stood.

In Ancient Greek mythology, it is said that Sea Demons could control others with sound.

"Time for me to act!"

Duncan's eyes narrowed slightly, a wave of killing intent emerged. He signaled Severus and mouthed, "Set fire."

Severus was an injured unit.

The Hermitage Holy Hall chopped off two of his fingers; his frontline combat effectiveness diminished considerably; as per the plan, if the enemy foresaw, Severus would seize the chance to start a fire, creating chaos and allowing Duncan to usher in the army.

Clang.

Blade unsheathed.

Duncan's silhouette, like a ghost, silently infiltrated, then slit the throat of a sleeping enemy.

Whiz!

He nocked an arrow, shot dead the guard at the watchtower.

Immediately afterward, Duncan's figure, like a ravenous tiger pouncing a lamb, the Oathkeeper in his hand cutting paths of gleaming light, effortlessly killed a dozen people; with Crow Queen, Triss's pre-prepared magic assisting, he handled these ordinary soldiers as easily as slaughtering chickens.

"Open the gate!"

Just a few minutes, blood tinged the air at the gate.

In God's eye view, Duncan didn't need to seek out individuals, just tackled marked enemy units one by one.

——Gaul Warrior (one star).

——Polytheism Divine Hall Guardian (two stars).

——British Elite Infantry (one star).

In darkness.

A squad of several dozen moved rapidly; as Duncan had cleared the watchtower beforehand, no one discovered them at all.

Now it was midnight, the enemy's most weary time.

Creak!

A heavy wooden city gate opened, Duncan's elite forces flooded in, swiftly controlling the entrances to three streets, the entire process less than ten minutes; those who rushed in, the Gaul Warriors, were more tense than Duncan, panting as they sprinted, exerting all efforts to seize the gate.

Duncan was everyone's cornerstone!

Such a dangerous task shouldn't have involved him, but his strength was the greatest, so others went all out to protect him.

They counted as Duncan's personal guard, the type to risk everything at critical moments.

Signal!

A faint firelight flickers.

Soon, large forces begin to advance rapidly towards Southampton in the darkness, this is the Crow Queen - Triss knowing that the city gate has been taken.

"Fire!"

"Someone, come quickly, put out the fire!"

A panicked shout comes from afar.

This is Severus's signal. If the patrol soldiers approach, he will immediately set a fire to cause chaos, buying a bit of time.

In fact, the ones yelling for people to put out the fire are him.

Success.

Everything went smoothly, even smoother than Duncan expected.

"Kill!"

Swords are unsheathed.

More than a dozen Gaul Warriors, holding shields, swung their swords to slash down a patrol team that had sensed something unusual. Soon, greater chaos erupted, and all of Southampton was in turmoil.

"The enemy has broken in!"

"The city gate has fallen."

The sound of cavalry galloping rises, Duncan's General Guard joins more than a dozen light cavalry, charging directly through the city gate, launching a charge down the dark streets, and eliminating the small patrol soldiers entirely.

The British Legion floods in, instantly taking control of the gate outpost.

"Retake the city gate!"

Amidst the distant firelight, panicked enemies hurriedly don armor and gather soldiers. Before they could finish assembling, Duncan shot an elite Saxon axman dead, then led two hundred elite troops straight toward the port.

Seize the ships!

All these warships are mine!

Kvito led the British Legion attacking from the north, killing down the streets toward the barracks, while Duncan led part of his elite troops straight from the south towards the port, slaughtering the few stationed troops there and completely capturing all the Saxon pirate warships.

The entire enemy in Southampton was already like a headless chicken.

Some of the faster ones broke out from other gate directions, diving into the night, while those slower ones were basically surrounded, and organized units near the barracks began to drop weapons and surrender. When they heard the commotion, the enemy had already arrived, and they hadn't even had time to put on armor; not surrendering now meant death.

"No wonder ancient night raids on enemy camps were so successful, the results were so glorious!"

Duncan appeared thoughtful.

This battle was so smooth, he didn't even exert all his strength, feeling entirely like the enemy had disrupted themselves and ultimately collapsed and surrendered in a panic.

"The enemy's command system has completely collapsed."

Under the night sky.

There were still one or two hundred enemy elites regrouping, but Duncan shot several officers dead, quickly plunging them into chaos, which then started fleeing and surrendering, more people surrendered since in the pitch darkness they had no idea where to run.

As dawn was breaking, all of Southampton was already under Duncan's control.

"Six hundred people night raided over two thousand."

"Killed two to three hundred."

"The rest all fled, more than fifteen hundred prisoners captured."

"Only eight of our own were casualties."

The victory was so dazzling that Duncan almost couldn't believe it. The eight casualties occurred because they charged too fiercely and were encircled and killed by the enemy.

They were basically those Gaul Warriors marked as 'possibly charge unauthorized.'

Victory!

For Duncan, this was the most straightforward grand victory since his traversal!

Weapons, supplies, warships, and various looted materials from Saxon pirates, just the treasures filled over a dozen chests, containing gold and silver, and many women's jewelry, silver utensils, and even a pure silver cross, etc.

The Saxon pirates had looted so many people over the years to accumulate such a rich collection.

This looting made Anya tremble slightly.

"I don't even need to dispose of the land estates near Rome, the wealth these pirates plundered is enough for us to start our foundation!"

The Saxon pirates had been looting for years, only to cheaply hand it over to Duncan in one wave.

In the dungeon.

Crow Queen - Triss released dozens of young, beautiful British slave women; this is the Virgin Possessor - Enfiss's lord's mansion.

This fellow started as a pirate, with his assets left to his men after his death.

When Duncan captured the city, they were still reveling and enjoying Enfiss's inheritance, only to be entirely captured.

A dozen one or two-star pirate leaders were all shot dead by Duncan in a hail of arrows.

These guys died straightforwardly, without causing a bit of casualties to Duncan, turning into cowards; he alone shot dead five or six of them.

The sky was lightening.

Duncan patrolled the entire Southampton, controlling the prisoners, assembling troops to take charge. He found Clegane and asked, "How many warships are there?"

Clegane was all excitement, "Over a hundred warships!"

"Enough for us to take White Island."

The enemy possessed all pirate ships, mostly small ones that could only hold dozens, but with the numerical advantage, they could completely form a naval combat unit.

Duncan decisively ordered, "Have people ready."

"Capture White Island at dawn!"

Once Southampton was taken, the next target was White Island, then advancing to Portchester Castle; taking that meant even a frontline military fortress was in their possession.

If Saxons wanted to advance westward again, that fortress would be a nail.

Kent Kingdom had just been established a few years ago, Duncan pushed it back with one wave, probably wiped out about half of Kent Kingdom.
