The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 132: Autopsy to Uncover the Truth

After 30 minutes, outside the Jiang City Forensic Autopsy Center.

Two police cars pulled to a stop, and Li Jian, Jiang An, Wan, and Zhang Yean stepped out.

Zhang Yean looked around, her surroundings shrouded in darkness.

In sight, only a few dim street lamps swayed in the wind, one of which flickered incessantly.

Even in the nearby garbage incinerator, remnants of unburned white wreaths were visible.

Suddenly, Zhang Yean shuddered.

"Why does this place feel so eerie tonight?"

Wan approached her, whispering, "Don't be afraid, sister."

"With the captain and Jiang An here, everything is safe."

Zhang Yean turned to Wan, pale and baffled.

"Li is a renowned sharpshooter in the criminal investigation team, never missing a shot."

"Jiang An is a seasoned forensic expert, speaking and representing the deceased."

"That's why, whether facing the living or the dead, being with the two of them means absolute safety."

Jiang An listened, glancing around at the pitch-black, eerie environment.

His lips twitched slightly, saying, "Wan, I'm a forensic expert, not a mage."

Wan patted Jiang An's shoulder.

"Haha, just a word short! Both are embodiments of justice, capable of repelling demons."

Five minutes later.

The four donned forensic autopsy protective gear, stepping into the number one forensic autopsy room.

The entire room was filled with the pungent smell of burnt flesh.

The charred blackened corpse was fixed on the stainless steel autopsy table.

Li Jian glanced at the corpse.

"Determining whether a body in a fire scene was burned alive or burned post-mortem is critical."

"Tonight, we must uncover a definitive conclusion and clarify the cause of death."

Jiang An nodded.

"Mr. Li, rest assured! Results will be ready within half an hour."

Li Jian checked his wristwatch, saying, "There's still over five hours till dawn."

"No need to rush, take your time."

Jiang An turned to the equipment table, selecting the instruments needed for the autopsy.

Wan stood beside Li Jian, noticing the captain's furrowed brow and serious demeanor.

"Mr. Li, rest assured!"

"With Jiang An, there's no body that can't be understood."

Li Jian nodded, his gaze fixed on the corpse on the stainless steel table.

In front of them, this body was significantly different from other burned bodies.

The deceased was not only unrecognizable but most skin and muscle had carbonized.

Such severely burned bodies posed considerable challenges for forensic experts.

After all, the subjects of forensic examination are bodies.

If the body is incomplete, the foundation for analysis becomes insufficient.

Visiting the forensic autopsy room this time, Zhang Yean felt more natural than before.

She lifted her camera, preparing to photograph Jiang An's significant findings.

Two minutes later.

Jiang An said, "Mr. Li, I'm all set over here."

"Let's begin!"

Li Jian nodded, taking out the forensic autopsy record book to document relevant data.

Jiang An picked up two tweezers, stood to the right of the deceased's head, and began examination.

He used the tweezers to grasp the deceased's upper and lower right eyelids, pulling them apart.

Zhang Yean, holding the camera, stood to Jiang An's right, observing closely.

"Sister, please photograph and record the features of the deceased's right eyelid."

"Got it!"

A click echoed.

"Mr. Li, please document the findings of the deceased's right eyelid examination."

"The deceased's right eye is tightly shut, the eyelid interior is very clean, no dust visible."

"On both ends of the right eyelid, skin changes resembling goose claws can be seen."

"Goose claw-like skin changes?"

Li Jian felt a sudden shock at Jiang An's report.

Did he hear it wrong?

How did forensic autopsy connect with animal poultry?

He lifted his head, looking at Jiang An with confusion.

Zhang An nodded, saying, "Mr. Li, please document it as such!"

He repeated, "On both sides of the deceased's right eye, goose claw-like changes are visible."

Wan approached, glancing at the deceased's head, asking, "Brother, what are goose claw-like changes?"

Jiang An pointed to the deceased's right eye.

He explained, "When we close our eyes, skin folds form at the corners."

"At the fire scene, much dust falls on the eyelids."

"Therefore, when using tweezers to separate the eyelids, unfolding the skin at the corners will reveal clean areas, free of dust."

"Moreover, the folds radially distribute like goose claws."

Wan, listening to Jiang An's explanation, lowered his head again for a closer look.

"With your explanation, it indeed resembles a fan-like distribution of goose claws."

Zhang Yean pondered for a while, curiously asking, "Brother, what's the significance?"

Jiang An nodded in response, "It holds great significance."

"Typically, when confronted with great danger in a fire, our brain triggers a self-protective mechanism, instinctively closing our eyes."

"The deceased's goose claw-like changes at the eye corners are a result of that emergency closure."

Zhang Yean asked again, "If that's correct, can we conclude that the deceased was alive during the fire outbreak?"

Jiang An nodded, "That's a fair assessment."

Li Jian stood by, listening and pondering.
