Hunter of Mysterious Creature

Chapter 102: Eerie Statue

This thing's ability to hide its presence is far superior to the stealth potion developed by the Tianfu City Research Institute. Once it activates its ability, it practically vanishes from Sun Hang's sight, leaving no trace of its existence.

However, Sun Hang is not entirely without means to cope—at the moment the eerie creature disappears, he immediately spreads hyphae throughout the entire hall, transforming the interior into an environment akin to a "Silk Cave."

As long as the eerie creature inadvertently touches any strand of hyphae, Sun Hang can instantly pinpoint its location.

"Calling command center, I've discovered the four missing infiltration team Hunters. They've been completely turned into eerie creatures... Hello?"

There is no response, the communication channel is filled with meaningless static noise.

Sun Hang wasn't too surprised—in others' eyes, he probably seemed as missing as the four Hunters.

The closer to Dragon Rock Fortress, the stronger the communication interference; the operations command center is aware of this. Since radio communication is impossible, why not resort to the most primitive form of information transmission?

With this thought, Sun Hang swiftly walked out of the hall.

But the moment he stepped out of the hall, he finally realized what the problem was.

The courtyard outside was as peaceful as the interior of the hall at this moment.

Dragon Rock Fortress no longer moved; the distant Garuda, fighter jet formations, and countless drones had all vanished. The night sky beneath the dark veil was pristine, void of even the tiniest speck of dust.

The lights projected down from above still existed, yet the drones sourcing the light were gone—the conical spotlight appeared out of nowhere, as if someone had cut a small hole in the black veil and blocked the opening with a flashlight.

"Another abnormal space?"

Sun Hang took a deep breath and began contemplating a way to break through the situation.

This place was evidently quite different from the eerie office building that once trapped him—within the office building, he could smell the omnipresence of the eerie creature, but here, what Sun Hang felt was just an "ordinary mountain" and an "ordinary abandoned temple."

The ability to conceal presence is less effective on larger objects, let alone the assumption that Dragon Rock Fortress is a Geng-type eerie creature, then Sun Hang is right in this "eerie environment," and he couldn't have felt nothing.

Unless Dragon Rock Fortress's "level" is so high that it can completely suppress Sun Hang.

Is that possible?

Sun Hang didn't know what level his memes were amongst the eerie creatures, but judging by the previous encounters with "Bloody Mary" and "Temporal Phantom" who seemed to avoid him like the plague, it shouldn't be low.

Sun Hang glanced at the night sky, turned around, and headed back into the hall.

The only thing here that could "interact" with him was the eerie creature pieced together from the Hunters' bodies, so if Sun Hang wanted to find a clue to these anomalies, he had to start with it.

If all else failed, he at least had to figure out why these four missing Hunters turned into this state.

Other than an abundance of white hyphae, nothing had changed in the hall; even the angle of the light shining through the break in the roof was exactly the same as before.

The eerie creature made from corpses was nowhere to be seen; whether it fled the hall or was lurking in a corner was unknown.

Since the thing was timid, Sun Hang didn't bother wasting time looking for it—with its hiding ability, even if Sun Hang overturned the entire Dragon Rock Fortress, he might not find it.

Sun Hang walked to the altar, lifted his head to gaze at the broken statue on the main seat.

This was a statue made of cement. Due to years of neglect, the golden paint on its surface had almost entirely peeled off, leaving only some golden powder in the crevices.

The statue's surface was riddled with cracks, with some areas even exposing the inner steel framework, especially at the neck's fracture—a break in the steel twisted like a pretzel, as if the statue's head had been forcibly twisted off by some tremendous force.

Seeing statues like this, Sun Hang instinctively thought of the "Three Monkeys"... He tried to imagine the scene of twisting off the Three Monkeys' heads, but a stabbing pain immediately shot through his head, forcing him to stop imagining.

"Tsk... So petty, can't even let people imagine?" Sun Hang muttered under his breath, then circled around to the back of the statue.

"Huh?"

The statue's head was not missing; instead, it was embedded in its back, facing inward.

This embedding was quite bizarre, as if the cement was softened, and the head was pressed in. The edges fitted perfectly with the head, showing no damage from forceful embedding or cracking from internal expansion.

But Sun Hang didn't bother to investigate—in a special scenario born of eerie creatures, any bizarre occurrences were reasonable. Insisting on a scientific explanation could only mean the person is somewhat irrational.

"Just curious what the face of this head looks like..."

J2796 began to flow like a liquid, finally taking the form of a pair of hands. Ten fingers gripped the edges of the head, slowly "extracting" it from the body.

The liquefied metal hands turned the head around, but upon seeing the face, Sun Hang frowned.

It wasn't the kind and benevolent face of a Buddha, nor the wrathful glare of an Arhat, not even those terrifying demon spirits... It was Sun Hang's own face.

The head was sculpted following Sun Hang's features.

"Damn, this thing's infringing on my right to likeness." Sun Hang couldn't help but curse, and the next moment, he commanded the metal hands to squeeze and crush the head.

But a sharp pain coursed through Sun Hang's face and head, as if an invisible force was gripping his skull.

Sun Hang immediately had J2796 release the head, and the immense pressure from his head was instantly lifted.

"..."

Sun Hang rubbed his still aching cheeks, feeling a hint of agitation looking at the head resembling his own face.

He couldn't ascertain what this thing was, but it was evidently related to the eerie creatures, yet he couldn't sense any ominous aura from it...

Sun Hang really wanted J2796 to form a giant hammer and smash this head into pieces, but he couldn't be sure whether his own head would explode the moment the head was shattered.

He inevitably thought of a cursed object called the "Voodoo Doll," where after the curse is activated, everything inflicted upon the doll is reflected onto the cursed person's body... Could this object's nature be similar to a "Voodoo Doll"?
