The Growth of a God

Chapter 18: Light in the Eternal Night (3/3)

Wu Kui was in despair, complete and utter despair.

As a Reincarnator who hadn't gone through the standard Reincarnation System, Wu Kui's soul and body were naturally misaligned.

Even though he eventually reopened the Ascension Ladder using his own talents, this remained a hidden danger.

After all, the primary condition for becoming a God is one's own "perfection."

So, after escaping those Divine Thought Remains, Wu Kui approached the master of the Illusory Fairyland, hoping to use their ability to materialize souls to remedy his own flaws.

But Wu Kui overlooked something again this time.

The master of the Illusory Fairyland was an Ascender Wu Kui had known in his previous life.

He thought he could rely on this relationship to have the master of the Illusory Fairyland help him repair the flaw between his soul and body.

However, Wu Kui ignored a crucial question here.

In his previous life, Wu Kui was a follower of the Supreme Elder and had the protection of the Celestial Tao System.

It's hard to say if the master of the Illusory Fairyland befriended Wu Kui completely voluntarily or without any ulterior motives.

After reincarnation, Wu Kui actively abandoned the advantages of his previous life and even gave up his identity as a follower of the Supreme Elder.

In this situation, if the Divine Thought Remains coveted his talents, why wouldn't the master of the Illusory Fairyland do the same?

Or more accurately, the master of the Illusory Fairyland had been waiting for this opportunity.

By the time Wu Kui realized this, he had already been "sold" by the master of the Illusory Fairyland to an entirely unfamiliar world.

This was a world of complete darkness, a world that had entirely lost its light.

Even with the body of an Epic Creature, Wu Kui could only see things within a three-foot radius here.

Having not felt cold since his Ascension, he now experienced a chill he hadn't felt in ages at that moment.

It was a kind of bone-chilling cold, a cold that seemed to freeze even the soul.

"This world... has no sun."

When Wu Kui realized this, the eternally dark sky seemed to blur as a streak of light flashed by.

In the next second, a faint yet truly existing light illuminated the sky.

Though it was so weak, it brought warmth and heat to this world.

It was also at this moment that Wu Kui suddenly realized that there were other creatures in this endless eternal night.

These beings were clearly from different worlds.

They had various bizarre forms, with ecosystems that were completely out of place in this world.

While the light still lingered, these bizarre creatures began to fight and struggle with each other, hoping to capture the remaining heat and energy within the other creatures in this way.

Under the atmosphere of sorrow and despair, every creature knew this was merely a way to cling to life.

But to survive, even to live just one more second, they had to do so.

Illusorily, some creatures also set their sights on Wu Kui, the newcomer.

Unfortunately for them, Wu Kui's reaction was much faster than theirs.

Whoosh!

His entire ribcage suddenly expanded, muscles within his body constantly surging.

Before other creatures could hunt him, Wu Kui had already soared into the sky, starting to pursue that fleeting streak of light.

Only at this moment did Wu Kui realize he wasn't the only one chasing that streak of light.

In this world, other capable, or flying individuals were also pursuing that streak of light.

They were different from those creatures killing each other.

These obviously wisdom-endowed individuals maintained a tacit understanding and did not partake in the slaughter.

.........................................................

Under the eternal night, time is the least valuable thing.

Relying on his own powerful abilities, Wu Kui remained at the forefront of the group chasing the streak of light.

Then, he realized why so many powerful creatures chose to pursue the light.

Because under the shroud of darkness, behind that streak of light, there were all kinds of indescribable presences trying to extinguish that sole light.

Indeed, Wu Kui clearly knew that those things weren't creatures.

To resist those indescribable presences and preserve that one ray of light.

Those with wisdom almost frantically charged towards the sky, battling furiously with the indescribable beings.

One, two, three...

Although every moment a wise individual fell.

But newcomers still threw themselves into battle against those indescribables, striving to let the light exist a moment longer.

Before Wu Kui could finish feeling the inexplicable shock, that distant streak of light was finally caught by an indescribable presence.

Boom!

The sky seemed pierced, and a tremendous noise echoed through the world.

The light instantly went out, all things suddenly wailing...

After that fleeting brightness, the entire world plunged back into darkness.

Lost the light, lost the guide...

The indescribable presences also stopped the hunt, everything seemed to return to the beginning.

The remaining wise beings dispersed as if out of habit, waiting for the next appearance of light.

Only Wu Kui, relying on his own Extraordinary memory and soul perception abilities, continued to fumble through the eternal night.

Even Wu Kui himself didn't know how long he had been moving in the darkness.

He only knew he seemed to have avoided many dangerous creatures, crossed countless obstacles, and finally reached the last Fallen Land of that streak of light.

Crack!

Not knowing what he kicked, Wu Kui, advancing, suddenly stopped.

Then, looking out, Wu Kui saw the massive crater beneath his feet.

Rolling heat surged from the crater, faint light radiated around...

With the aid of this light, barely stronger than a candle's, Wu Kui finally saw the unknown presence within the massive crater.

It was a creature, curled up on the ground, yet striving to raise an arm to emit light.

Its body was so long, the body-to-head ratio even up to an extremely exaggerated twelve to one.

This gave it a strange leanness, but this leanness was no indication of frailty.

Quite the contrary, each of its muscles displayed an incredible burst of strength, giving no doubt it could leap from the ground to the sky.

Aside from the exaggerated head-to-body ratio and slender limbs.

The most distinctive feature of this creature was its two long, drooping ears.

From the head to the knees, rabbit-like ears seemed like another pair of limbs, flexible and full of strength.

Swoosh!

Just as Wu Kui wanted to observe this bizarre creature further, the light in its hand suddenly dispersed.

When this last light faded, Wu Kui returned to the state where he could only see within three feet around him.
