Marvelous Mecha

Chapter 243: Thunder Action_1

Vivian was now admittedly irritated. Her gaze icy, she had been preparing when an ignorant soldier flung open the door. She asked Feng Yi hadn't he told them yesterday that all incoming personnel had to report, regardless of their rank, and identify their unit number.

Surprised, Feng Yi stammered immediately: "R-R-Report! Twelfth Division, Field Battalion, Mecha Maintenance Regiment, Second Company, Soldier Li Guang reporting on my own!"

"Li Guang, I'm Li Gang," Vivian's expression eased somewhat upon hearing of a soldier from the Twelfth Division's Mecha Maintenance Regiment. The forward operating repair regiment had been decimated when pulled from their positions. "Don't tell me you're here for that absurd reason?" she said.

Feng Yi nodded, appearing genuinely ignorant.

Vivian had the inclination to order sentries to drag this fool named Li Guang out for ten laps around the camp as punishment. However, his handsome appearance combined with a naïve and bewildered expression made venting her anger more challenging. She turned and slapped the documents onto her desk, ordering Feng Yi to leave.

In the very moment that Vivian turned, Feng Yi vanished from the large tent, leaving the surroundings once again undisturbed...

Vivian was surprised by the soldier's hasty departure, his fading footstep sounds was all that reached her ears...

In truth, this was all a diversion created by Feng Yi's smartwatch. No one knew that a soldier now lay still on the floor, his breathing at its lowest. His ear pressed against the ground was particularly alert, ready to knock out anyone who leaned over with a swift blow.

The ticking of the clock sounded unusually slow. Just like a feline, Feng Yi sensed the tremors on the ground with his body. After ten minutes, when Vivian's light footsteps disappeared from inside the tent, he got up to survey the surroundings. He needed to dismiss all potential threats such as hidden cameras immediately. Without delay, he ventured deeper into the tent.

In a breath, two guards appeared at the dark end, standing straight, statuesque, guarding Augustins. Feng Yi could even see the food on Augustins' table from an isolated room, indicating he was under house arrest.

Feng Yi was unable to make direct contact with Augustins now and feared acting rashly and alarming the enemy. Since he had identified Augustins' exact location, he had no concern about the follow-up plan. Before that, he just needed to handle the preplanned fallback option carefully, as the rescue stood a high possibility of success.

He waited under the bed for several hours, narrowly escaping detection twice. Fortunately, he had preemptively used inertial visual misplacement as a camouflage, exploiting the effect of mirrors reflecting at a 45-degree angle, a common deception technique from the early hot weapon era.

Vivian entered and left the room four times. Feng Yi couldn't hear her conversation with Augustins, but her expression suggested it wasn't a pleasant exchange.

By evening, the sounds of soldiers laughing and playing began echoing in the camp at nine. Despite the distance, the combined noise of millions of people still made its way into one's ears like a swarm of mosquitos...

Now was the time for personal hygiene, and Feng Yi's gaze was relentlessly fixed on the ticking second hand of his smartwatch, for just before lights out was also the shift change for the guard post.

Counting the time, Feng Yi's heart beat faster and faster… This operation could easily implode, and he didn't think he could lead two people to escape from numerous Mechas on this vast plain by his own strength. In this race against time and luck, his ability to vanish and stealthily move would be rendered useless.

The camp was filled with noise at 9:10 PM... At 9:20 PM, the noise in the camp began to decrease... At 9:25 PM, the camp fell silent... The countdown was getting closer and closer...

Suddenly, the camp plunged into darkness. Feng Yi wanted to make his move decisively but feared it was too early and risk exposure. During this period, Vivian was very likely to receive Heavenly Communication or reports, so he had to wait.

Usually, after midnight, no subordinate would dare to disturb high-ranking commanders. Between one and three in the morning is the deep sleep period of the human biological clock. However, Feng Yi couldn't choose to act during this period because the people he was accompanying were Augustins and Vivian. Given Augustins' pace, they would not get far before dawn, so he had to set off at an appropriately timed hour. The time couldn't be too late or too early. He moved up midnight by half an hour.

Exactly at 11:30, Feng Yi targeted Vivian first. Toppling both guards might alarm Augustins so, to avoid any mishaps, he knocked out Vivian, who was deeply asleep, with a karate chop, then quickly approached the two guards. The sleeping Vivian didn't even realize what was happening, fortunately, her dream wasn't interrupted by the sudden pain.

The guards collapsed at once barely making a sound. Feng Yi hurried to prevent their fall from attracting attention. In an instant, he motioned Augustins, who was glancing over, to be quiet.

"You..." Dumbfounded, Augustins looked stunned for a while. It took him two seconds to realize who was standing in front of him. His outfit helped Augustins guess what was happening incredulously.

"Feng Yi, how did you get here?"

"Of course, to rescue you." Both of them kept their voices low. Feng Yi asked, "Any news from the other soldiers?"

"I don't know. Saudi set an ambush in the rear position and led 1000 scout Mechas directly to the Command Room." Regret and anger permeated Augustins' words. As a result of his ambition to gain merit and ignorance about the enemy commander's identity, he had been captured. The incompetence shown by the Saudi commanders over several months had slowly made Augustins lower his guard.

"We can't stay here long, we have to leave immediately."

"Wait, Blanche is locked in the next room. There seem to be other soldiers as well."

Feng Yi was taken aback, he hadn't realized there was a hidden room in this tent. From what he had observed, the guards were just keeping a routine watch over Augustins and he hadn't noticed anyone else, including Blanche. Only after he unlocked the door minutes later did he understand, Blanche was locked in a detention cell.

Otherwise, they found three field commanders and several officers in charge of infantry armor, who held significant positions, in a few other hidden rooms nearby. Later, they found more than a dozen lower-ranking officers and soldiers in a collective detention cell, all of whom were crew members of the Command Room.

After scrambling around wasting several minutes, Feng Yi told everyone to leave their weapons and wait for him there. Anything bearing weight would lower the success rate of their escape. Now, the top priority was to knock down the eight-position guard posts.

Everyone held their breath to the extreme. In less than three minutes, Feng Yi returned, said nothing, picked up Vivian, and motioned the others to follow him while keeping their voices down.
