Chapter 1469: Apology?

Raising his hand halfway, Feng Yi suddenly stopped his action.

"What, can't face people?"

Feng Yi was noncommittal about Bauman's remark, as his identity would indeed cause some commotion.

"It's not that I'm afraid, but what does it matter if you know my identity? If I say I'm your superior, are you not going to arrest me?"

Pfft!

Bauman laughed; it was truly amusing, the biggest joke he'd heard all year. Unable to hold back, he said, "You don't seem very smart, trying to bluff here. What kind of situations haven't I seen?"

Bauman's eyebrows indeed showed a trace of a smile, but his words were not at all funny. Not just the surrounding officers and soldiers, but even the onlooking citizens understood this logic,

Certainly.

As a major general, even if he had transitioned to civilian life, Bauman would inevitably be an authoritative figure locally, enjoying district-level treatment, akin to a provincial leader in previous terms.

Such a figure, it would indeed be more unexpected if he claimed not to have seen major situations before.

"I said, even if Greedy Wolf were here today, I would still throw you in."

The woman, on the other hand, chose to remain silent, not making a fuss, fully aware that the real show was yet to come. Besides, the area surrounding the community was already under lockdown.

As for why it was locked down, the reason was simple: the presidential car had been parked outside for a while. It was Grandma Dana's car, so she certainly wasn't afraid; on the contrary, she intended to be a good child this time.

"So, you actually don't dare to reveal your identity? I seriously suspect you are an enemy spy," Bauman issued a final warning.

In fact, he hoped more than anything that Feng Yi would remain silent, so that any accusations could naturally fall upon him.

Of course, the revelation of his identity was of little significance as Bauman was determined to arrest him.

"Try touching him!"

Old Smoke was indeed a fierce character. As he spoke, he made no attempt to conceal his intention and reached for the pistol at his waist, only for Feng Yi to quickly restrain his hand!

Old Smoke was different from him; if Old Smoke dared to act that way, it would be a big deal, although not a major issue for him. Feng Yi didn't want Old Smoke to get into trouble, so he decided to reveal his hand.

"Alright, let's see today how you plan to send me in."

Feng Yi slowly took off his hat, revealing jet-black hair…

!!!

Silence.

...

The crowd fell silent in an instant, and even the officers under Bauman who saw him were struck with indescribable shock on their faces…

Excitement, tension, exhilaration, self-reproach, perhaps myriad indescribable emotions intertwined on their faces!

Damn it!

What are we doing! Who exactly are we aiming our weapons at!?

Click click… before Bauman could speak, a few soldiers suddenly lowered their guns, because their sights were shockingly aimed at Feng Yi, which was simply unforgivable!

Bauman's facial expressions shifted rapidly… his heart skipped a beat! The abruptness of seeing Feng Yi was beyond description, far more shocking than seeing the president.

Feng Yi asked back, "Then, what do you intend to do with me?"

For this query, Bauman didn't have the time to think of an answer, replaced by sweat pouring down, his clothes quickly soaked, and he fell into a stunned silence… his mind buzzing endlessly…

If he really dared to arrest Feng Yi, he was not far from ruining himself. Without even considering the audacity to arrest such a prominent Feng Yi, merely issuing the order was enough to sentence him, even if he held a high position.

Who was Feng Yi? A national hero, an eminent figure, Revenge Shadow Rider, with an unshakable status worldwide; his fame far exceeded that of Greedy Wolf. Should he indeed be arrested, the public's censure would be enough to overwhelm him.

"General Bauman!"

"Ah! Yes!"

Upon hearing Feng Yi's scold, Bauman shivered, instinctively stood at attention, straightening his posture.

Despite appearances showing an official ranking, the true gap was a world of difference, making Bauman lose all his dreams instantly.

Feng Yi said, "As an Advanced officer, not only do you fail to enforce the law impartially, but you also abuse your authority to allow your relatives to run amok. Is that what a general is supposed to do?"

Bauman's old face flushed crimson, and he hung his head very low…

"Answer me."

However, confronted with Feng Yi's powerful roar, he chose the usual silence. Yes, Bauman was quite smart, knowing that there was no room for rebuttal in front of Feng Yi.

It was as if he was waiting for an opportunity, which only made Feng Yi increasingly infuriated.

"Not talking, are you? Then I charge you with kidnapping a vital national leader. As the Special Envoy, I am detaining you now, and you have the right to remain silent."

"What!?"

Upon hearing Feng Yi's words, Bauman's heart instantly cursed silently! Kidnapping a vital national leader—this accusation was by no means trivial. But one had to admit, as the Mardis Swordsman, Feng Yi indeed was a crucial national leader. This was indubitable, yet this was all based on a misunderstanding. Had Feng Yi revealed his identity earlier, it wouldn't have escalated to this.

"G-General, I didn't know it was you; I was rash!"

Bauman hurriedly rebutted.

"But if I were an ordinary citizen, what then?"

Feng Yi's one question plunged him into silence once more…

At this moment, Feng Yi once again glanced around, "Folks, don't be afraid. If you have grievances, feel free to tell me."

The onlooking populace couldn't sit still anymore. With Feng Yi backing them, what was there to fear?

Indeed, this statement was effective, truly garnering a response. Still, the citizens raised issues on daily family matters, given the differing social status. Yet, even so, merely an accusation of kidnapping a vital national leader was enough trouble for him.

Just then, a well-dressed lady approached from a distance, accompanied by many armed personnel.

As the crowd was quickly dispersed, Feng Yi noticed the identity of the newcomer…

Vice President Dana, a genuine significant figure with an opportunity to govern the federation.

Bauman and the woman, seeing her, felt the pressure in their hearts abruptly ease.

Tears of grievance rushed out of the woman's eyes, "Grandma, that person bullied me!" She pointed at Feng Yi, saying, "Even Uncle Bauman…"

"Shut up!"

A slap landed sharply on the woman's unsuspecting face; it was a forceful slap with no reservation.

Half of the woman's face swelled visibly…

She widened her eyes, unable to believe that her usually doting grandmother didn't hear her explanation and slapped her outright.

For a moment, the woman was stunned, bewildered by the blow, and stopped crying, staring at Dana somewhat dazed…

"Grandma…"

"You insolent thing, always causing trouble, didn't I tell you to shut up!"

Dana slapped her again, making the woman whimper silently, yet dared not make any sound.

At this moment, Bauman also froze in fear, well aware of how much his mother cherished this obedient granddaughter, metaphorically like keeping a flower in her mouth lest it melts, and holding it carefully lest it gets scared, yet couldn't fathom today's uncharacteristic behavior.

"Lord Feng Yi, I feel deeply apologetic for our offense."

"Ms. Dana, there's no need for such a thing, and of course, I don't accept any form of apology."
