Chapter 152: Wilderness Survival 12_1

This survival exercise, though it doesn't have any particular rules against unconscious soldiers being disqualified, truly reflected the bravery and tenacity of Xia Xinru as a soldier. She made no mistakes; it was Feng Yi who was wrong.

By all accounts, once Xia Xinru fainted, she should be considered out. However, there was no strictly defined rule for this and it underestimated the will and persistence of the young people. Xia Xinru's actions were teeming with positivity and it wouldn't be appropriate to halt the well-established tradition of the army base.

Feng Yi didn't keep everyone waiting for long. He asked that the live feed from Sky Eye keep a constant watch on Xia Xinru until she joined another squad. After all, she lacked many necessary survival tools, even an electronic map, which was a crucial precaution for unexpected events.

Regarding safety, everything that needed to be taught had been covered. Wilderness survival inherently involves a risk of death. As long as one doesn't deliberately venture into dangerous areas such as challenging piranhas and crocodiles, even if they encounter large snakes or poisonous insects, it's generally safe, especially with the thermal imaging from Sky Eye and the rescue team ready for any unexpected danger that couldn't otherwise be resolved.

Walking through the Green Immortal Trace, Xia Xinru was in high spirits due to a deep sleep. She moved quite quickly.

According to the agreement made before departure, every time a team member had to leave the group for uncontrollable reasons, a clearly distinguishable marker should be left on a tree.

Xia Xinru didn't forget this agreement. After looking around, she finally found a clear marker on one of the trees. Under the bright light, the marker was particularly vivid.

This orientation mark, praised by Feng Yi, is a practical positioning technique he created. Once a mark was spotted, one could move guided by the direction of the mark. The subsequent directions could then easily be identified following the simple marker on a branching path or prominent object. The academic significance of these markers will not be critical here.

Xia Xinru never expected the technique Feng Yi taught to be so useful. She followed the guide and soon located the second coordinate a few hundred meters away.

Without the sun's relentless heat, moving through the jungle felt much better than ever before. Her location was on the outskirts of the primitive forest which was drier than the swamp areas, hence less restrictive on her movement. She had managed to run a considerable distance with her nimble body amid the soft panting sounds.

In the blink of an eye, night turned into midnight. It was the start of the third day of the wilderness survival exercise. Unfortunately, Xia Xinru was too far from her group. If it hadn't been for the compass, the orientation marks, and the vague direction in her mind of areas B and C, she could've easily gotten lost.

At dawn, when the cold night was shattered by early hours, she found chaotic footprints in the mud. She observed the footprints carefully and concluded that seven people had passed here. There was no need to determine the direction through the coordinates anymore; the footprints were the best proof.

After a long time, Xia Xinru finally stopped by a wide river. A makeshift camp seemed to have been set up on the bank. Maybe a few people spent the night here the previous evening? From this point on, there were no more markers. It seemed like Elvis and Spectacles abruptly stopped leaving marks.

This area doesn't have any piranhas, but the water runs fast. Crossing to the narrowest location on the opposite bank could even be hundreds of meters away. Perhaps, the two men had anticipated the danger in these parts hence stopped leaving markers abruptly. As a matter of fact, being in this place, Xia Xinru was already able to spot the indistinct green hills of area C in the distance. Crossing this river meant a victorious end wasn't far off.

Pondering on what to do next, Xia Xinru seemed to have made a certain decision. She clenched her fist in determination. Opening her backpack, she discarded everything useless on one side which only left her with the compass, military knife, and unused micro impulse coloured balls―which she didn't use─as well as other equipment that were strictly not to be forgotten. In fact, each soldier's survival gear only included a knife. The micro impulse and the coloured balls weren't considered survival tools, but weapons used in this competition by the various teams to overcome each other.

Clearly, soldiers always remember Feng Yi's advice: Never point a gun at your comrades. The saying seems to be already deeply imprinted in everyone's hearts. Along the way, the brothers seemed to forget all about the guns. They used the weapons as a bargaining chip to achieve the military knife in the hands of the instructor.

After discarding all redundant items, she quickly found relatively dry grass nearby to fill up her backpack. This would aid flotation. With the backpack thrown into the river, Xia Xinru dived in after it…

With a splash! The water rippled high… My God, Xia Xinru never thought that she would have such a crazy moment; her heart was palpitating with fear but also anticipation.

Elvis's team had already swum across the 700 metre-wide river and had successfully joined a few other teams. After exchanging information, they decided to head towards the actual hidden coordinate. As they journeyed, the initially hurried group of seven expanded to a team of 35 people.

However, both Elvis and Spectacles couldn't forget about Xia Xinru. That's why even when they could swim across the river, they did not forget to leave marks behind along the way, although it didn't delay them too much.

After retrieving the three coordinates and identifying them on the electronic map, the secret camp location was quickly revealed. No wonder no one discovered the secret camp over three days. The location was not a passage that had to be taken to reach coordinates ABC. And if one wanted to hurry to coordinates ABC, there really wasn't time for a detour. Add to that, the camp was well-hidden, so it wouldn't be easily discovered.

Once the position was determined, they quickly moved towards the secret camp. At this moment, the team seemed to transform back into the invincible unit they were at training. Whenever someone fell due to fatigue, their comrades would take over their load without the slightest hesitation or lift them up to run shoulder by shoulder. As time passed, dozens more people joined the team.

Deep in the rainforest, continuous footsteps stirred the beasts from their slumber…

They were comrades, they were brothers, this team was a representation of their shared ambition. The cohesion of their group forged it into formidable strength. Pure sentimentality overwhelmed them into roaring and shouting, yet at this moment, they didn't have any energy left to cheer and leap. Their ultimate goal was to persist until the very end.

This indomitable group, from the original three members, had grown into a team of 75 people, with more people joining in on the way…

In what seemed like no time, when their team expanded to 90 people, they arrived at their destination. The enormous camp hidden deep in the woods became clearly visible. Darting through the grass, they saw countless officers bustling in and out of the camp…

Daphne made a silence gesture. Following her signal, the already quiet team became nearly noiseless.
