Marvelous Mecha

Chapter 1021: Effort Pays Off You Reap What You Sow in the Squatting Pit_2

Fatty is not very clear about the strength of Blade Warrior; if it were Sky Shadow, Roland, or even Mengdie, Fatty would definitely dare to confront them, but with Blade Warrior, he really doesn't have much confidence.

That's the way things are. Once returning to the shuttle, Blade Warrior recounted his experiences to everyone again.

Once, or a hundred times, it seems that no matter how much time is delayed, you can't get any information about Feng Yi from the bar. The good news is that Feng Yi does indeed exist in this dimensional space-time. From what that freelance mercenary said, it seems that Feng Yi is not very old - that person even called him a "brat".

Sky Shadow holds disdain for Blade Warrior's ordeal, scoffing at the fact that a First-Order is intimidated by a freelance mercenary. But of course, this freelancer isn't exactly simple either, and Blade Warrior's reaction is understandable.

And from the clues gathered from the mercenary, it seems that Feng Yi often goes out and his whereabouts are unpredictable. From this, they can roughly deduce that he must be out hunting. In other words, he could potentially appear within a few hundred kilometers radius. To prevent any complications, it would be better to stay put and deploy some unmanned surveillance drones to perform 24-hour intelligent monitoring of the area. They believe it won't be long before they find traces of that kid.

However, when they think of Feng Yi's teenage years, an inexplicable peculiar feeling arises in everyone's heart. What was he like back then? That remains a mystery.

----

What does Feng Yi look like? He hasn't eaten for a day.

30 kilometers outside of Colonial Planet's Seventh District, in a six times gravity zone, it took Feng Yi half a day to dig two holes in the hard-frozen ground; one for himself to hide in, and the other as a trap to observe the surroundings.

As to why Feng Yi would dig holes instead of doing what a freelance mercenary should do, like finding a client, earning stable income through routine patrols, or taking on some other commissioned tasks...

It's because he likes it. Business is getting harder to come by these days. With the federation and Saudi blowing the war horn, Feng Yi began to consider being a mercenary while working a side job for some extra cash.

As somebody who can stomach a lot, Feng Yi is quite confident in his patience. As long as he digs a hole, he could squat in the snow for days, provided that the temperature isn't too low. If it drops below minus 40 degrees Celsius, he would go home to sleep without a second thought.

Looking back on his life, the 11-year-old Feng Yi's childhood can be described as miserable and bleak. At the age of 7, he was nearly killed by a bomb while clearing land in the wilderness, and on his way home, he was hit by debris, barely surviving thanks to sheer luck.

At the age of 8, Feng Yi ambushed a multi-horned beast in harsh cold weather; he squatted for two days in temperatures of minus thirty, nearly freezing to death without ever seeing the beast. Fortunately, Lasso came to the rescue in time. How Lasso found him, Feng Yi himself didn't know, but Lasso's arrival once again proved the greatness of fatherly love.

Starting from the age of 10, Lasso often traveled the world, hardly returning home a few times a year. Luckily, Feng Yi was self-reliant from a young age and wouldn't starve. On one hand, he could squat for survival. With a bit of luck, he could even take on a few mercenary jobs.

Feng Yi's life changed radically when he was 10. Geller was once a captain of the Seventh District Mercenary Guild, responsible for all sorts of security issues in the area.

However, in a territorial dispute with the Sixth District, Captain Geller and many of his men died. That fierce battle resulted in heavy losses for both sides. Even Feng Yi, who was not lacking in skill, was seriously injured in the chaos, taking three bullets. Thankfully, due to his strong constitution and resilience honed from a young age, he miraculously survived and clung to life.

After that, the largest Mercenary Guild in the Seventh District was left with only about 20 members.

Of course, the chief of the mercenary gang in the Sixth District, Farum, didn't have it easy either. As a First-Order warrior with exceptional strength, he, too, lost a leg and 300 comrades after that battle.

From then on, the Seventh and Sixth Districts began their decline. As the Mercenary Guilds faltered, the two districts gradually became the most chaotic areas on the Colonial Planet, with criminals rampant and a mix of good and bad elements. The few dozen remaining freelance mercenaries were unable to maintain order in such a vast area, so they slowly narrowed their patrolling range to just the slum areas, with safety outside of here no longer guaranteed.

Now, there are only five potent freelance mercenaries left in the Seventh District, known as the "Lightning Storm" Feng Yi, "Revolver God" Ace of Spades, "Murder in the Blink of an Eye" One-Eye, "Living Dead Lame Leg", and "Splattered Blood Rose".

During the day, the Revolver God Ace of Spades is the remarkable opponent that Blade Warrior encounters.

In this line of work, we call it high-risk business. It doesn't open easily, but when it does, it earns half a year's worth. Besides maintaining daily order, each of them has their own affairs. As for Feng Yi, his hobby is squatting in holes, and he also enjoys visiting the garbage dumps to scavenge some war scrap metal.

On the contrary, Feng Yi did not like going to places like bars, which were smoky and unpleasant, although he did not hate drinking. Because drinking warmed the body and quickened the blood, it could provide some resistance to the severe cold.

Who would have thought that while squatting there, Feng Yi received a text message from Old A, informing him that someone had been looking for him during the day.

After taking a quick look, Feng Yi put away the communication device. He didn't care about these trivial matters; he just wanted to continue his vigil, waiting for prey that belonged to him.

Just then, he saw a faint light in the sky catch his eye... it was an unmanned surveillance drone, its red and white colors barely discernible in the dim night.

Of course, the drone was not equipped with infrared sensors and could not detect Feng Yi, who was lurking in the snow.

An hour passed...

Feng Yi remained motionless, watching the flying craft come and go, puzzled. Why were there flying vehicles here? He began to sense that things were not as simple as they seemed and that this might have something to do with the message from Spade Old A.

Bang!

After the sound of a gunshot, the flying craft was shot down.

Feng Yi observed for several more minutes, seeing no response from the craft. He then cautiously approached and observed it for a while to ensure there were no unknown dangers, like a bomb for security on the craft. Childhood traumas constantly reminded Feng Yi to be vigilant and to avoid being blown up at all costs.

Only after confirming there were no safety risks with the flying craft did he carefully pick it up and examine it...

Feng Yi looked it over again and again, scrutinizing it carefully.

Hmm, not bad; it's a good thing that could fetch a handsome price. There's also a monitoring device installed; it seems to be an unmanned surveillance drone.

Realizing this, Feng Yi thought further and suddenly saw the potential of using it as an observation tool. He decided to salvage and modify it into his own device and sell the unnecessary tech components on the black market. Indeed, it was killing two birds with one stone.

Feng Yi had always been highly skilled with his hands, a natural ability since he was seven years old, when he had begun making simple modifications to mechas in a makeshift way. So, a small remote control device was naturally no problem for him. Hence, Feng Yi decisively decided to abandon his lookout and transform the surveillance drone into his own remote monitoring device.

As dawn broke, a sudden, inexplicable shout from Blade Warrior was heard within the Time-Space Transfer Device...

"Eh, eh eh eh... Why is monitoring area number 17 black? Where is my monitor?"

By then, everyone had arrived in the hall and followed Blade Warrior's gaze towards the monitoring screen, only to see that the observation area thirty kilometers outside of Seventh District was pitch black.

How could this be? The monitors they used were powered by crystal energy and had strong anti-detection capabilities. Usually, they could not be scanned, and with double insurance for reinforcement, it was impossible for them to malfunction 30 kilometers away in an uninhabited gravity zone. Not even a mouse could be found in that godforsaken place, yet the screen was showing another reality, a black out.

There were only two possibilities, either a malfunction had occurred, or it had been deliberately sabotaged. What in the world was this?

"No way, is this the so-called 200,000-valued smart surveillance monitor you spoke of?" Fat doubted Blade Warrior's words for the first time.

Mengdie also nodded her little head in agreement, surprisingly concurring.
