Marvelous Mecha

Chapter 890: Success and Failure Hang by a Thread

The buzzer sounded, signaling that the imminent battle had not yet erupted. Mirami, controlling the Crimson, made battle preparations. She drew her Light Sword and stepped to the side of the Revenge Shadow Rider, her brain racing as she pondered how to deal with the upcoming fight.

Before the fight, Mirami hadn't dismissed the idea of employing tactics. As a super soldier pilot and "big sister," she had been through her fair share of battles, even standing out in the Bermuda battlefield. But opponents differ, and the gap between them couldn't be measured in mere hand speed; it was a chasm between realms.

Facing the Revenge Shadow Rider, any pre-battle tactics seemed pale and powerless. Therefore, ignoring pre-battle references and focusing energy on improvising seemed to her the only way to win.

Of course, even then, she didn't believe her odds of winning were that high. However, this type of battle where she played freely without targeting the Revenge Shadow Rider's weaknesses was the only shortcut she could think of that might lead to a victory.

Looking at the motionless Shadow Rider, the Crimson, having moved to the side, appeared contemplative, like it was thinking about life or searching for the Revenge Shadow Rider's flaws without launching an attack. In that instant, beads of fragrant sweat involuntarily trickled down Mirami's pretty face...

Feng Yi was ready for battle. He could roughly determine why his opponent had not initiated an attack, understanding that the reputation of the Revenge Shadow Rider must have been quite intimidating, even to the strong-hearted Mirami.

What people didn't know was that during his last battle with Reiko, his condition had been terrible. The only reason he could raise the Mecha's operational efficiency above 1000 was due to Reiko's insufficient offense, which greatly played to Feng Yi's advantage in offense.

A month and a half had passed, and his physical condition had degraded even further. While not so bad that he couldn't lift a sword, any opponent could pose significant pressure, an issue he couldn't evade. Even his close-combat ability had fallen from late Rank 1 to mid-Rank 1 stage. Trying to exert force, the first challenge he faced was the chain reaction of intense bodily pain.

Therefore, for the current Feng Yi, his strategy was to brace for defense, seek out the weaknesses, counter-attack before the enemy, and defeat them with a single strike.

Luckily for him, Mirami was completely unaware of the current state of the Revenge Shadow Rider. The only thing she knew was that this person, the Revenge Shadow Rider, was not very patient, which meant unnecessary probing could be playing with fire.

She hadn't even considered probing, but she could faintly hear the rising cheers from outside the arena, which wasn't surprising. Sadly, as a 12-star, she knew all too well that the cheers were for the Revenge Shadow Rider, not for herself, which added invisible pressure on her.

Before the fight, she thought she had completely seized the mental advantage. To verify this point, Mirami unhesitatingly employed a little trick, demanding an autograph.

If the Revenge Shadow Rider couldn't produce an autograph, it might lead to a fluctuation in mentality, which would be an advantage for her. As it turned out, not only did the Revenge Shadow Rider deliver, but he also struck with such speed that she didn't even have time to react.

Shaking her head firmly, Mirami temporarily abandoned that thought and concentrated all her attention on locking onto the Revenge Shadow Rider's Mecha. As the Crimson's engines roared to life, she swung the ion Light Sword without hesitation...

With a hiss...

Before they could engage at close range, Mirami swiftly leapt backward. No good, she couldn't see any weak points, not even a trace.

The Hell's Gate audience fell silent, the proverbial black crow silent. People recognized Mirami as lively, romantic, straightforward, and never shying away from any hardship. But now, she seemed alien. Was this the invisible overbearing presence of the Revenge Shadow Rider?

It could be said that facing the motionless Revenge Shadow Rider, Mirami would have been more comfortable if he had just attacked directly. She couldn't find a single flaw, and her breathing became even heavier...

Forget it, don't worry about it anymore. Continuing like this, she would mentally break before even engaging in battle. Mirami's gaze suddenly intensified, a sweeping strike aimed at the Shadow Rider's torso. The strike she delivered with all her might was chillingly cold. The central display showed that the gravitational acceleration of Mirami's strike reached 35 times, her strength reaching the standard of a top-tier warrior.

Remember, Mirami is a female pilot with innate physical disadvantages, yet she thoughtlessly delivered such a strike, showing no reservations. Moreover, this wasn't a feint; it was a genuine, head-on collision.

Feng Yi sensed the sudden change in the Crimson, lifted his sword to block, and as their weapons met, a thunderous noise erupted. Mirami felt an overpowering force, like mountains crashing down on her, leaving her not only unable to counter but barely able to resist.

The Revenge Shadow Rider took a slight step back under the counter-force, casting a curious glance toward the Crimson... This Mirami was interesting. Did she really want to collide head-on with him instead of a tactical duel? With a hint of confusion, Feng Yi did not rush to pursue the attack, instead wanting to see what sort of ploy the opponent was up to.

The Crimson staggered backward, retreating an unknown number of steps...

In the neutral spectator zone, at least ten percent of the crowd did the same thing, gently shaking their heads... Either Mirami had lost her sanity or her composure, clashing head-on with the Revenge Shadow Rider, which very few top-tier warriors could withstand, let alone a female pilot. This basic knowledge was known even to the average person, and yet Mirami seemed to ignore it, which suggested her mental state might be in disarray.
