Marvelous Mecha

Chapter 121 Shopping_1

On the way home, Feng Yi still had something to do. He looped around from the east side of the Shadow Commercial District to the west, and after a long search, he finally found a large space mall.

The Space Industry Chain is a business system designed for wealthy customers. It mainly sells expensive goods like Space Crystals, storage capsules, intelligent robots, and Gravity Manipulators.

Thanks to the last battle on the internet, a large sum of money had been deposited into his account. One of the main reasons he logged into the "Star Wars" game this afternoon was to transfer all this money onto his card, and as for his goal, it was to purchase Space Crystals.

Upon entering the luxuriously decorated mall, Feng Yi didn't pay attention to its golden glory, nor the subtly electrifying beautiful women. Although he was dressed ordinarily, those who could come here were either rich or noble; it wasn't odd that the women were trying to win his favor.

The first floor of the space mall was filled with a variety of goods. Expensive items on the market, whether they were available or not, could be found here.

Besides, the first floor was divided into many zones, such as a leisure food area, a gaming area, a children's entertainment zone, and many more.

Feng Yi's target was not on this floor, though. With a wave of his hand, he directly selected the highest floor, the 166th, on the elevator.

When the elevator doors slowly opened after a while, Feng Yi noticed numerous heavily-armed security personnel hidden in the shadows. As he stepped onto the red carpet, he quickly arrived at a Space Crystal display.

Seeing the new arrival, a few shop assistants behind the counter maintained their formal demeanors, but the one following Feng Yi had an evidently faded smile. In this job, they relied on commissions. They could go on for half a month even if they only sold one Space Crystal, not because Space Crystals didn't sell well, but because the high price was beyond the reach of ordinary people. Furthermore, the crystals that had just arrived were of relatively small size. Coupled with Feng Yi's common appearance, the shop assistant showed very little patience as she followed him around. However, due to professional courtesy, she had to be on standby next to the customer.

Feng Yi seemed oblivious to this. He leisurely and carefully examined each Space Crystal...

The shop assistant was getting frustrated. Without any regard for the others around, she sarcastically asked, "Sir, are you planning to buy?"

"Yes."

Feng Yi didn't look at her. Unexpectedly, the shop assistant continued to ask, "Space Crystals are quite expensive, which one do you prefer?"

Her question was rather direct. Feng Yi didn't take her seriously at first, but that didn't mean he couldn't sense her sarcasm. She was essentially implying that he couldn't afford a Space Crystal and should stop embarrassing himself and wasting her time.

"Indeed, they're quite pricey. Let me look a bit more."

"No need to look more. The one you're looking at is the cheapest in our store."

The other staff members started looking at them out of curiosity. Her comments were a bit overboard; it would have been okay to subtly point out his financial inability, but saying it so boldly was violating the principle that the customer is always right.

Feng Yi paused.

The shop assistant smirked. Now that she had messed with his dignity, she was curious about how long he would last. "Are you planning to buy today? Or are you not sure? If you're not sure, I would suggest you consider buying some storage capsules."

It was well-known that, though expensive, storage capsules were still within the affordability of ordinary people, unlike Space Crystals. But, the shop assistant's attitude was clearly one of, 'you can't afford it but I'm not leaving you an out'. Even the other customers couldn't stand to watch this anymore.

"Yeah, I'll buy today. Then what?"

As soon as the words left his mouth, the whole place fell silent. Feng Yi had shocked her confidence. Even the customer who was about to intervene for Feng Yi paused in his tracks.

The shop assistant, whose comments had been disrespectful, was stunned. Her cold gaze had disappeared, replaced by a soft and amiable smile. Regret filled her heart. She had almost driven out a customer, "I'm sorry, sir, earlier..."

"No problem." Feng Yi waved off her apology.

The shop assistant let out a sigh of relief, but not two seconds later, Feng Yi walked over to another shop assistant. "How much for these four Space Crystals?"

"Sir, the prices of them are XX."

"I'll take all of them."

"A-, all four?"

"Yes."

Heavens!? Four Space Crystals sold at once? Two months' salary just slipped away like that? The service representative was pleasantly surprised and her shocked expression was clearly etched on her face! "Please wait a moment." She said.

However, the face of the shop assistant who had mocked Feng Yi, turned pale. She staggered slightly and almost fainted. Four pieces of Space Crystal equated to two months salary! Originally, this commission should have been hers! She regretted it immensely. The difference in expression between her and the previous shop assistant was a stark contrast. Low whispers started spreading among the other shop assistants nearby.

Feng Yi walked out of the mall cheerfully. He was never one to care about material possessions. The only purpose of buying the Space Crystals was to stimulate his students' motivation.

To solidify and elevate his students' average military literacy, this might be the only thing he could do. After all, simple pep talks and ideological work would not lead to a change in attitude. In this era, materialistic benefits appeal more to the forward-thinking youth than beliefs. Only by exploiting their interest, can we create an effective change. After all, nobody would give up on benefits, would they?

If possible, he didn't want the students to consider this as their end goal. Nevertheless, the indispensable necessity conflicted with his wish. Though benefits and courage did not conflict, they would merely serve as an opportunity. Any military skill students learned could be used as a bargaining chip to guarantee their lives. Feng Yi believed he was not a qualified instructor. But when it came to life itself, at least, Feng Yi knew how to respect it more than anyone else.

The sky had turned completely dark by the time Feng Yi left the business district. The surroundings outside the district were freezing cold. Falling snow covered Feng Yi's body, turning it white. The crunching sound of his footsteps on the accumulated snow was quite enjoyable. Embracing nature always felt nice. As he walked further into the distance, a long row of footprints was left behind on the ground.

Life in the slums was tough. On his way back to his room, he could hear a familiar sound of thumping footsteps echoing through the corridor...

It was Guo Guo. Her clumsy footsteps always had the same rhythm. Every time Feng Yi came home late, the little girl would always greet him with a box of hot noodles or soup.

Because there was no water heating equipment in his room, besides instant noodles, Feng Yi didn't know what else he could eat to fill his stomach.
