I Have a Golden Crow

Chapter 70: 060 Stage Play

No way, I can't just sit here and wait to die.

Du Yu quickly looked around. There were at least fifty black-robed people—absolutely impossible to fight them all here!

It's not like I'm wielding a Heaven-piercing Halberd; there's no way I can take on this many at once!

"Tactic 1!" Du Yu suddenly turned, running left along the fence, blade edge on his bow arm pointed forward.

Breaking through—that's Du Yu's only shot at survival.

As for that special woman shrouded in black mist, she was definitely not a good breakthrough point. Damn, even her skin's different. At minimum, that's gotta be some kind of elite monster, right?

"Ying!" Xiaoyan quickly conjured a fireball in front of her face, and the Little You Ying buzzing near her head quietly gathered strength, ready to unleash the Demon Skill: Ghostly Firefly Spin.

Honestly, Du Yu was incredibly grateful for the days of special training at Master Qing's house—especially for Little You Ying. Its attitude toward fighting had changed completely.

If it was still as mischievous as before, blowing up at random times, Du Yu would basically just be carrying dead weight.

Watching the fireball hurl outward, Battalion Commander Liu in the camp outside the tower couldn't help but look shocked.

"Is that Copper Level Spark Splash?" Liu Camp stared at the screen as the fireball flew, exclaiming, "That's a Silver-level Demon Skill, isn't Little Fire Fox an Earth-level Demon Pet?"

He had to care about this. After all, it affected the world's level assessment on the map.

Actually, Xiaoyan had released Spark Splash before, but last time Du Yu turned around quickly, so the camera only caught footage of the black-robed people.

Yang Qingqing stared at the monitor and casually said, "Mortal-level Demon Pet."

On screen, Spark Splash had already hit the ground and exploded!

"Hisss..."

"Ahhh~ ahhh ahh!" Waves of shrill cries rang out, sounding like wailing ghosts—making this quiet night even more terrifying.

The black-robed, gray-mist people went up like a torch at the slightest spark. To Du Yu's surprise, despite their strange costumes, they didn't seem any different from the pedestrians on the street earlier?

There's hope!

Standing at the edge of Ghostly Firefly Spin, Du Yu turned, watching shadows in black robes lunge at him, and drew his bow to arrow in a snap.

"Shoo~ shoo~ shoo!"

Three black-robed figures ignited instantly, howling and clawing in agony.

In the chaos, Du Yu noticed the black-mist woman wasn't joining the fray; she didn't even glance this way, just kept staring at the big iron gate.

Shoot her?

Should I try to set her on fire?

If she doesn't ignite easily, wouldn't that just call the boss over early?

"Behind you, behind you!" Little Fen Yang suddenly cried out in alarm, making Du Yu's heart sink.

Behind him was the spot where Spark Splash had just exploded, with Ghostly Firefly Spin blocking it—how could anyone get through?

All the enemies were gray-mist forms; even a stray spark would torch them—no way any could...

But Du Yu trusted Little Fen Yang's warning without hesitation.

The instant he got the alert, Du Yu reacted immediately, spinning as he raised his bow.

In his sights, a blazing black-robed figure burst through layer after layer of flames, holding a Fire Smoke Dagger, screaming shrilly as he lunged straight for Du Yu's throat!

Du Yu: !!!

Sure, the guy was burning, but he hadn't lost his fighting strength at all!

"Sst!" The enemy was too close—Du Yu abandoned his shot and swung his bow hard, the blade at its end slashing through the gray-mist man's hand.

To be precise, his "Fire Mist Hand."

The burning fire-mist body was frighteningly fragile. The hand gripping the Fire Smoke Dagger was instantly sliced in half, cutting the attack short.

"Aaaah! Ahhh ahhh..." The black-robed man's screams stopped abruptly.

His gray-mist body was finally burned to nothing, leaving only an unscorched black robe flying toward Du Yu's face.

Instead of backing away, Du Yu lunged forward, swinging his bow again to viciously fling the black robe aside, then charged ahead.

"Phew~" Little You Ying came in clutch!

Maybe its Demon Skill couldn't stack up to Xiaoyan's in attack power, but on this special battlefield, against enemies that ignite at a touch, Little You Ying's Wind and Fire Vortex was an absolute reaper!

Du Yu led the charge, while Little You Ying cast Wind and Fire Vortex just behind. Every black-robed enemy that got too close—even the tiniest graze—set them ablaze from head to toe.

"Blast them in the back! Xiaoyan, blow up the pursuers!" Du Yu, pushing through flames, spotted several enemies cutting him off ahead. There was no way he could risk Spark Splash detonating in front.

The breakthrough depended on this—if Xiaoyan blew up in front, Du Yu would get blasted back, or at the very least have his escape blocked.

Just like that, under the watchful eye of soldiers and Master Qing, the first-person view on the screen showed the archer firing in rapid succession—despite wielding a Hunting Bow, he charged fearlessly ahead!

The brutal torment from the Fire Phoenix Tree, combined with Master Qing's patient training, had turned an old sneaky bastard into a true madman!

"Shoo~ shoo~ shoo!"

Three steps, three arrows—so fast it was terrifying, dazzling to behold!

Sprinting forward, Du Yu suddenly braked—one black robe came diving forward, attacking all out, just trying to deal some damage no matter the cost.

"Huff~"

Du Yu dodged a half-step to the side, Demon Soldier Qing Peak loaded a Fire Arrow but didn't shoot; instead, he just thrust the bow toward the target.

Right then, the Fire Arrow became a matchstick, and the gray-mist man was the matchbox.

The difference? This matchbox got lit up!

With a "woosh," the gray-mist figure shot past Du Yu and turned into a Fire Mist man, collapsing to the ground howling.

"Ying!" Xiaoyan shrieked, and through the contract, Du Yu's heart pounded hard as he caught her meaning!

Now behind Du Yu, it was a sea of fire and shadows.

And in those flames, each burning mist-figure was like a desperate criminal, spending their last moments in a wild frenzy.

As Du Yu glanced back, the camera shifted, and Yang Qingqing's heart clenched tight.

"Blow up further out, Xiaoyan, blast the outskirts!" Du Yu's angry roar came through the monitor.

Battalion Commander Liu: "What's this kid trying to... holy shit!"

Du Yu drew his bow on the spot—but didn't nock a Fire Arrow at all!

God Yu Archery Technique, First Form: Frightened Bird!

"Deng!!!"

The bowstring vibrated thunderously!

A massive ring of fire exploded outward, a swarm of gray-mist and fire-mist enemies instantly blasted backwards by the heatwave.

With Du Yu at the center, he was the flower's heart, and fire petals bloomed all around in an instant.

Every ignited gray-mist man became a petal.

"Cough cough, cough..." Du Yu coughed lightly—this move to Frightened Bird was basically the upgraded version now.

He'd poured a terrifying amount of Demon Breath into the Demon Soldier, and didn't even use a Fire Arrow!

Compared to his clueless rookie days, this ring of fire was spectacular—enough to make his Demon Breath Battle Robe tremble madly.

He never imagined the first time he'd get hurt, the attack would come from himself.

"Keep—keep going." Du Yu stammered out the order for his Demon Pets to push the attack, stumbling forward himself.

The black-robed men thrown back were all set ablaze. Even worse, fire-mist ones lit up their gray-mist buddies on contact, passing the torch down the line...

"Ahhh!"

"Uwah~ ahhh ahh!" Drowned in wails, fire-mist men either went insanely charging at Du Yu or writhed, burning to ash in agony.

Du Yu staggered forward, drawing another arrow, deeply grateful for the Demon Soldier gifted by Master Qing.

Thank god it was made from Demonic Plant materials. If it were an ordinary bow, firing on full draw like that would have wrecked it for sure!

"Shoo~ shoo!"

Fire Arrows flew rapid-fire again; in the sea of flames, the only two far-off, hesitant gray-mist men finally caught fire too.

Du Yu was just about to break out of the encirclement when he stumbled, tripping suddenly.

With a sharp "pop," the Demon Breath Battle Robe vibrated!

Diving forward, Du Yu executed a reflex drilled in blood and sweat—spinning midair to land flat on his back.

Flat on the ground, he'd already drawn and nocked an arrow.

The fire-mist man that tripped him was sneaky as hell—rolling and howling a moment ago, only to pull a cheap shot just as Du Yu passed by.

Du Yu kicked frantically, trying to shake off the burning hand. The dying fire-mist man vanished before his eyes, leaving behind only a black robe.

"Ying!"

"Fwooosh..." Xiaoyan sprayed Spark Splash to the left, and You Ying hastily summoned Wind and Fire Vortex between the explosion site and Du Yu's escape path.

Through the shaking first-person view, the soldiers almost saw themselves in the trenches!

Like seeing a brother-in-arms lying on his back, crawling out of a foxhole!

Du Yu really was retreating, trying to get off the battlefield, but he wasn't letting any chance slip away. On screen, the Demon Soldier Bow fired rapid shots, each arrow scarily accurate!

Bouncing fire-mist men, rolling fire-mist men, fire-mist assassins sprinting toward him...

Yang Qingqing leaned forward, silently watching the dizzying screen fill with desperate enemies hurling themselves at him.

She knew Du Yu had seen this scene countless times—back when his enemies were leaf-monsters, vine-snakes, even her own trembling fingers.

Now, she got to see the world as Du Yu saw it.

Suddenly, a ghastly fire-mist face filled the whole screen.

Any kid would scream from this—the warped mist-face was like a life-taking Fierce Ghost, and even the soldiers watching felt their hair stand on end!

"Crack... crack..." came the continuous sound of the Demon Breath Battle Robe shattering, Demon Pets' cries surrounding him.

Amid the chaos, the bow arm's blade slashed hard to the right, slicing through the burning fire-mist head.

With a weird "puff," the fire-mist scattered on the wind.

The black robe floated down as the camera jerked, a hand gripping a Fire Arrow by the tail hammered it backward into another fire-mist head on the left.

Even as the fire-mist man rolled and wailed, that left hand kept stabbing the arrow into his face until the Fire Arrow burned itself out.

Both mist-man and arrow drifted away, fading.

"Huff... huff..." The boy's ragged breathing came through, still rattled but alive.

On screen, only a few less-crazy fire-mist men remained, dashing around the street or thrashing on the ground. As time passed, they too vanished from the world.

Under the dim streetlights,

all that was left was a war-torn rainy street—and black robes strewn everywhere...

Like a horror stageplay wrapping up its final act.

The boy's heavy breathing wasn't noisy at all. Combined with the life-and-death struggle just witnessed and the "black robe corpses" all around, it actually made the viewers' blood boil!

The first-person immersion, the terror and adrenaline and pressure—it all hit the peak!

In front of the surveillance screen, a soldier grinned, turning to his buddy.

From his comrade's wide-eyed look, he saw the same emotion: Is this really a rookie Demon Tamer Prentice?

Forget fear or timidness—why the hell does it feel like this kid is crazier than the enemies?

What in the world does Master Qing teach him every day?
