I Have a Golden Crow

Chapter 47: 042 One Demon Crystal

"Ssss!"

A thin stream of water shot onto the ground beside Du Yu, actually blasting out a small dirt pit, and then—splash! Water went everywhere!

Du Yu hurried to dodge, hiding behind a tree, but a jet of water shot in from the left as well, its splashing droplets landing right on Du Yu.

"Bzzz!" Du Yu's Demon Breath Battle Robe vibrated slightly—this was only the splash damage from Demon Skill·Little Water Gun hitting the ground; if he got hit directly, it would probably hurt a lot.

"Flap-flap-flap~" The sound of flying fish dorsal fins kept coming, clearly closing in on the big tree where Du Yu was hiding.

"Xiaoyan, set up the turret!" Du Yu wrapped Xiaoyan's long tail around his neck, grabbed the Demon Soldier Silver Fire, and dashed off into the forest.

Looking back, he saw no less than 7 or 8 flying fish closing in aggressively.

The scene looked just like a squadron of remote-controlled planes—kind of imposing, huh?

"Still chasing? We're deep in the wilderness already!" Du Yu grumbled inwardly, feeling like he'd been tricked by the "fish" appearance.

Apparently, these guys really didn't need much of a water environment.

"Pew!"

"Pew~" Another volley of water guns came, each stream like an arrow made of water.

"Left... right, left!" Little Fen Yang suddenly piped up, the Human Master back online!

Du Yu was overjoyed.

Little Fen Yang, you're my hero!

While running full speed, Du Yu dodged left and right on command, water jets blasting out small craters behind him and scattering loose blades of grass.

This counts as Butterfly Steps, right?

Though back then, Zhang Qiming didn't have eyes on the back of his head—it was all pure technique and instinct. Du Yu, on the other hand, was way more high-tech, with a Human Master for tactical guidance.

Little Fen Yang: "Xiaoyan, target the one on the left, get ready!"

Du Yu: "..."

Turns out Little Fen Yang wasn't just good at bossing humans around—she could command demons too.

"Ying!" Xiaoyan was more than happy to follow orders, a fireball quickly forming at her lips.

Little Fen Yang: "Du Yu, left side!"

"Ah."

Little Fen Yang: "Xiaoyan, attack!"

"Ying!"

Du Yu had just landed from a dodge as a fireball shot out from right in front of Xiaoyan's face, heading straight for a flying fish that had just turned its body forward.

The flying fish's eyes were on the sides of its head, set pretty far back—which meant...

The flying fish species actually had a blind spot right in front of them!

So, every time the little flying fish chased Du Yu or aimed for him, they had to turn sideways to lock onto his position.

"Bang!" A crisp explosion rang out!

Hu Xiaoyan-brand fireball mortar, direct hit!

"Tsk tsk." Du Yu clicked his tongue—he was running full speed yet could practically smell roast fish already.

"Well done, Xiaoyan! Let's do it again, go for Spark Splash!" Little Fen Yang ordered rapidly, firing off commands: "Du Yu, Du Yu, run faster~"

"Bang!" The fireball exploded.

This one didn't hit dead-on, but it did mess up the formation of the flying fish flock.

"Flap-flap-flap~" In the rolling heatwave, little flying fish flapped their dorsal fins wildly from the pain, with a few even turning tail and fleeing back the way they came.

They clearly weren't out of commission, but just like that they're giving up and running away? Instincts clear as day—another bunch that bullies the weak and fears the strong...

Little Fen Yang: "Du Yu, Du Yu, it's our turn!"

Du Yu suddenly stopped, spun around, and drew his bow!

"Xiaoyan, help me out!" Du Yu tried to get his dignity back as a pet owner, "Fire!"

"Ying!" Another fireball launched straight at a group of hovering flying fish in midair.

The flying fish were hovering, which meant they were observing sideways.

As the fireball closed in, the little flying fish dodged right away.

"Whoosh!" At that moment, a Fire Arrow shot out lightning-fast—not at the flying fish, but at the fireball Xiaoyan just spat!

Human-Pet Combination Skill?

Seeing this, even Little Fen Yang let out a cry of amazement: "Wow~"

Spark Splash does two-stage damage, but to trigger the second-stage explosion, you have to detonate the fireball.

The fireball only explodes if it hits a target—there's no way to pre-explode it, and once Xiaoyan has spat it out, she can't control it anymore.

But with Demon Soldier Silver Fire in hand, Du Yu used pinpoint marksmanship to detonate the fireball ahead of time!

The flying fish easily dodged, thinking they were in the clear... but without warning, just as the fireball grazed past, a Fire Arrow rushed in and popped it!

"BOOM!" This blast was far stronger than before.

Sparks flew everywhere, heatwaves rolled out!

Blazing Demon Breath knocked several hovering flying fish straight out of the air—too bad, though; the blast was still a bit too far away.

Du Yu's eyes sharpened, locking onto the biggest one. Demon Soldier Silver Fire ignited abruptly, a Fire Arrow aimed straight at the little flying fish.

"Whoosh~"

Du Yu pumped Fire Demon Breath into Demon Soldier·Silver Fire with all his might; in an instant, the flame groove on the bow lit up.

The burning crimson Fire Arrow was instantly wrapped in a layer of dark silver flames!

It should've been a subdued color, but here and now it looked so flamboyant!

"Ding!" Du Yu released his fingers. The silver Fire Arrow shot out like a meteor, straight at its target, right between the fish's eyes.

"Crack... crack..."

That was the sound of the Demon Breath Battle Robe cracking, as the silver Fire Arrow was actually bounced away.

Du Yu's eyes lit up—first the flying fish got grazed by Spark Splash, now a precision strike, and yet its Demon Breath Battle Robe still didn't break!?

This must be a Peak of Mortal Level Demon Beast! That means a Demon Crystal should drop!

Du Yu hadn't expected good luck to hit so suddenly. He quickly nocked another arrow: "Xiaoyan, let's combo again!"

"Ying!"

The little flying fish on the ground thrashed fiercely—its fins totally useless, fish instincts kicking in as it bounced madly around, relying only on its tail to fling itself every which way.

But in Du Yu's eyes, everything else faded away.

The crazily tail-whipping little flying fish was now covered in silver flames, with crackling sounds of its armor breaking ringing out one after another.

"Maximum Spark Splash, keep outputting," Du Yu ordered softly, eyes never leaving the flying fish as he drew back his bow.

With a crisp "pop,"

The flying fish's tail slapped down hard, springing the whole fish off the ground.

Heroic Bronze·Swimming Leap!

Taking advantage as it hopped into the air, the flying fish's dorsal fin flapped desperately. It spun around to escape, wobbling terribly.

Du Yu kept aiming, then rushed forward, sidestepping: "Xiaoyan!"

"Ying!"

Heroic Bronze·Spark Splash!

Read as Heroic Bronze, but truly Unyielding Silver!

Maybe the flying fish's Demon Breath Battle Robe could block Du Yu's arrows, but as long as it was a Mortal Level creature, it definitely couldn't tank Xiaoyan's Spark Splash.

Whoosh!

Another fireball shot out, fast and powerful—clearly Xiaoyan was going all out. But...

The escaping flying fish wobbled up, down, here, there—

Things weren't looking good!

Du Yu stopped, and thanks to inertia, slid half a meter forward.

Demon Soldier Silver Fire stopped aiming at the fish and instead pointed at the fireball.

"BOOM!"

Fire burst, heatwaves roared!

Sparks exploded right above the flying fish's head, blasting it straight down to the ground.

Du Yu could vaguely hear the sound of the Demon Breath Battle Robe shattering?

He quickly drew his bow again and, not caring about the silver Fire Arrow this time, shot a crimson arrow straight out.

"Sss!"

Bullseye—right in the fish's belly!

The Fire Arrow pierced its gut, pinning the little flying fish to the ground, the arrow still furiously burning away.

Du Yu hurried to draw again, and on his shoulder, Fox Xiaoyan the turret was already primed, another fireball launching out.

This time, there was no need for a pre-explosion.

Du Yu froze, watching helplessly as the fireball struck the squirming flying fish—and as the erupting flames swallowed it whole...

Poor guy, what a way to go!

"Ying~" Xiaoyan was thrilled, wrapping her long tail around Du Yu's neck, her furry little head nuzzling the side of his face in a warm, affectionate rub.

Fighting together was clearly the perfect way for a human and pet to bond.

Feeling all this, even Little Fen Yang got a bit jealous of Xiaoyan. Such a bummer, I'm still in soul fragment mode and can't nuzzle Du Yu's cheeks...

As the sparks faded, Du Yu stepped forward, sniffing the air. In the not-too-big, not-too-small crater, a roasted fish was wafting up an enticing aroma.

He crept over, pinched the charred fish tail with his fingers, and lifted a full forty-centimeter-long fish out of the hole.

One side was raw, the other burnt black.

Master Yan's cooking clearly still had room for improvement.

Master Du instantly took out the standard-issue student outdoor knife. His technique was clumsy, but hey, a good blade makes up for a lot.

If it hadn't been killed, this little flying fish would have lived another 20 years—and it had barely been in this world for long before Du Yu sent it packing.

What does that even mean?

Saves it twenty years of hardship!

As thanks, the flying fish left behind a shiny Demon Crystal for Du Yu.

"It really is a Peak of Mortal Level Demon Beast." Du Yu fondled the die-like Demon Crystal, almost incredulous.

Maybe we really can do this?

Du Yu turned to look at Xiaoyan; with that Silver-level Demon Skill firepower, he now had even more possibilities.

Maybe we should take on the sixth quest—go check out that Double-leaf Grass Snake corrupted by Cold Qi?

"Ying~" Xiaoyan stared at the Demon Crystal in Du Yu's hand, her soft pink tongue licking her lips, looking adorably greedy.

"Xiaoyan, we'll save this for now. Teacher Qingqing wants us to get three Demon Crystals." Du Yu explained, then pulled out a sandwich cookie from his pocket, holding it to Xiaoyan's mouth.

"Ying." Xiaoyan really was well-behaved—the Firethorn Fruit Jam filling really was delicious.

Du Yu put the Demon Crystal in his backpack, pondering silently—should he go back and blow up more fish?

Mortal level little flying fish only had Little Water Gun as an attack; as long as he was careful, he could dodge most of it.

Even though they could fly, land was clearly not their domain—not nearly as agile as in water... Let's do it!

Stock up some more Demon Crystals, let Xiaoyan absorb them, or go exchange them for points at the Demon Spirit Bookstore.

The new Demon Pet's about to join the team, meaning another mouth to feed. Gotta earn more!

"Chin up! Xiaoyan, let's go another round!"

"Ying!"
