The sky was slightly overcast, as if it could start pouring rain at any moment.
Even so, Li Shouzhong, Yan Gui, and the other doctors put on water shoes and gloves to go catch seafood. In truth, it wasn't exactly going into the open sea. This was because there was a small aquaculture zone on the west side of Sea Temple Island. Through an acquaintance, the group gained access to this enclosed area, where they began picking and choosing their catch.
The haul was astonishing. Crabs, sea cucumbers, and abalone were everywhere. They even picked up a dozen or so large sea urchins.
Xu Lai and his group were also there.
Xu Yiyi sat on Xu Lai's shoulders, looking up at the dark clouds. "Daddy, it looks like it's going to rain."
"It won't."
"But little raindrops are already falling."
Xu Yiyi pouted with disappointment. "I wanted to catch crabs, but I won't go in now. If I get wet, Mommy will worry."
"Don't worry, Yiyi, this rain won't fall," Xu Lai said seriously. "Your dad said so, and that's final. No one can change it."
"Mhm, mhm, mhm."
Xu Yiyi no longer had any doubts. She gazed at Xu Lai with pure admiration, convinced her father was the most powerful magician in the world.
He could fly.
He could make cloud candy.
He was a million times more amazing than Doraemon!
Xu Yiyi believed unconditionally in whatever Xu Lai said, and Qian Xiao felt the same.
Sure enough, in a ten-kilometer radius around Sea Temple Island, the dark clouds scattered in unison. Bright sunshine poured down, as warm as a spring day. Even the chilly seawater now felt somewhat warm.
"This is too magical," Qian Xiao said, stunned.
"How unsophisticated." The Sea Snail Maiden peeked her head out of Xu Yiyi's pocket. "It's merely manipulating the weather in a small area," she said dismissively.
"You can do that too, Beibei?!" Qian Xiao asked, astonished and full of admiration.
Beibei's small face turned red.
Of course, she couldn't...
In the eyes of an ordinary person, changing a light rain to clear skies was a simple weather change. In reality, however, Xu Lai had altered the Heavenly Dao Laws within this small area. Forget her, a mere Half-Step Great Demon. Even a cultivator at the peak of the Demon King Realm, a level above Great Demon, couldn't control the Heavenly Dao Laws—they could only borrow their power. Moreover, the laws they could borrow were only the most common elemental laws, not the core Heavenly Dao Laws!
But she couldn't lose face in front of Qian Xiao.
"I am the number one swordswoman in this sea. What do you think?" she said nonchalantly.
"You can definitely do it!" Qian Xiao was so awestruck he looked ready to hug Beibei's leg and declare her his new master. "Beibei," he pleaded with great anticipation, "teach me! You must teach me!"
Lately, he had been learning body tempering techniques from Beibei, with lessons involving things like withstanding the pressure of a waterfall.
If I could learn to control the weather and become the Master of Weather... then wouldn't I, Qian Xiao, be able to command the wind and rain? I could easily reach the pinnacle of life! And when that day comes... Yiyi will look at me with the same admiration she has for Uncle Xu...
"You need to build a proper foundation first. Let's start with swimming three laps around the island," Beibei said, maintaining a calm facade. Internally, she was panicking, terrified that Qian Xiao would ask for a demonstration.
The island's coastline was roughly fifteen kilometers long. At a normal adult's swimming pace of one kilometer per half-hour, a single lap would take seven and a half hours. And she had asked him to swim three!
Qian Xiao was dumbfounded. "Uh, Beibei," he stammered, "isn't that a bit much...?"
Seeming to realize she had gone a bit overboard, Beibei scratched her head. "Fine. Just do one lap for now."
"It's not even one in the afternoon," Xu Lai said, checking the time. "If you swim fast enough, you might make it back for dinner."
Without another moment of hesitation, Qian Xiao stripped off his clothes, leaving only his swim trunks.
SPLASH!
He leaped into the sea.
"Ooh, a crab!" Beibei suddenly cried out.
Xu Yiyi hopped down from Xu Lai's shoulder, chirping excitedly, "Where, where is it? I want to catch it."
Under Beibei's guidance, Xu Yiyi began foraging for her own seaside treasures.
But with the help of a Sea Demon... well, within a mere ten minutes, the patch of beach behind Xu Yiyi was piled high with seafood. It was far more than Li Shouzhong, Yan Gui, and the dozen or so other seniors had managed to catch.
And all of it was destined to become ingredients for dinner.
While everyone was enjoying themselves, deep beneath Sea Temple Island, there was a Bronze Giant Gate. The gate was covered in rust, with large amounts of coral and shellfish clinging to its surface. Two chains radiating golden light bound the Bronze Giant Gate shut. A massive stone stele pressed down on the point where the chains connected, acting as a lock.
On the stele was a single character:
Suppress!
The calligraphy was wild and peerless, its strokes powerful and fluid. Any Martial Artist present would have been utterly horrified, for the single character for "Suppress" pulsed with a terrifying and monstrous sword aura.
However, as ages passed, the sword aura within the stone gradually dissipated. This caused cracks to spread across the stele's surface until it had completely lost its sealing power.
THUD! THUD! THUD!
From the Bronze Giant Gate, located on the lightless floor of the deep sea, came a series of tremendous impacts, as if something behind it was ramming the door again and again. The shockwaves spread out, sending nearby fish, shrimp, and other marine life fleeing. Instinct screamed at them that this place was extremely dangerous.
The thudding continued for a long time, a full three hours.
After three hours of relentless pounding, the golden chains binding the Bronze Gate finally shattered, inch by inch. A massive, azure claw suddenly burst through the nearly meter-thick bronze door.
"Has it been another ten years?" a hoarse, furious voice echoed. "The seal has finally weakened. I can emerge from the darkness!"
With the chains broken, the Bronze Giant Gate shattered completely. From behind it, countless pairs of eyes, each glowing with a different colored light, began to open. Behind the gate was a horde of Sea Demons, all of whom had been suppressed for more than two hundred years. Unwilling to succumb to their fate, they took advantage of the seal's weakening every ten years to launch an all-out assault. They would trigger a beast tide in an attempt to escape their underwater prison, but every attempt had ended in failure.
"But this time, it will be a success," the owner of the hoarse voice said as it slowly emerged from the shattered gate. It was a massive sea turtle! Its body was as large as a heavy-duty truck, and its massive head was particularly ferocious. It bit down on a piece of the Bronze Gate, and its sharp teeth tore off a large chunk with a loud CRUNCH.
"Because I," the sea turtle, Gui Siqian, cackled, "have stepped into the Demon King Realm!"
With that, it completely shattered what was left of the seal. One Sea Demon after another emerged from the gate. In the blink of an eye, a dense swarm of monsters now stood on the seafloor.
Of course, sunlight could not penetrate hundreds of meters to the seabed. To the Human Race, this place was utterly pitch-black, a void where nothing could be seen.
But on the surface, Beibei's body went rigid. She had sensed an extremely terrifying aura from the depths below.
That's—a monster of the Great Demon Realm!
"Yiyi, you keep catching crabs on your own for a minute. I... I have to take care of something," Beibei said before hastily diving into the sea. She couldn't bear the thought of Yiyi coming to even the slightest harm.
As the number one swordswoman of the seas and Yiyi's foremost protector, she, Beibei, had to find out what kind of monster was lurking beneath Sea Temple Island
