Invincible Dad

Chapter 279 Am I Suffering from Amnesia Again_1

The figure belonged to Xu Lai. Ruan Tang had driven the car away, so he took the subway to the station near the school and walked the rest of the way.

Even though he had shut off his Divine Sense and his five senses, Xu Lai could still feel someone watching him.

He sighed softly. Sometimes, having a high Boundary really isn't a good thing. Even if I want to be an ordinary person, my superior physical conditioning gives me away. Like right now.

If he hadn't sensed the gaze, Xu Lai could have ignored it completely. But now that he had… he still chose to ignore it.

The Moon Clan. They really are a nuisance. All I want is to live a quiet life as a normal person. Why is that so difficult?

"You, stop right there!"

Shang Er wasn't about to just watch Xu Lai walk away. He stood up and, under the wary eyes of the school security guards, hurried after him. A gut feeling told Shang Er that this strange man was directly connected to the small portion of memory he had lost. The intuition was odd, but Shang Er trusted it implicitly. It was this razor-sharp intuition that had saved his life at least six times in battles against the Martial Artists of Chang'an City. It was also this innate talent that had allowed him to slip past the Watchmen of Chang'an and quietly arrive on Earth.

Seeing that the man had no intention of stopping, a cold glint flickered in Shang Er's eyes. He actually attempted to grab Xu Lai's shoulder, his palm surging with a trace of Spiritual Energy powerful enough to easily restrain any Martial Artist below the Divine Gate Boundary.

But the person Shang Er was facing was Xu Lai.

The result of this move was, of course, predictable. With a loud BANG, his body was sent flying by the rebound force once again, carving a beautiful arc through the air. As if by a stroke of coincidence, he landed right back in the dried-up artificial lake now occupied by stray cats and dogs.

Perhaps it was a special kind of fate that allowed him to land in the same spot twice in a row.

"Ugh."

At the school gate, the security guards who had rushed over were dumbfounded. They recognized Xu Lai; he was the head of the school clinic, a truly influential figure on campus! They had been on site maintaining order the day Xu Lai fought Ishihara Kai, the instructor from the Sakura Country's Imperial Capital University Judo Club.

They hurried over and asked respectfully, "Director Xu, are you hurt? Was that thug… huh? Where's the thug?!"

The guards were baffled. The suspicious man they had been watching for three hours had simply vanished the moment he got near Xu Lai. In truth, he hadn't vanished; he had been sent flying so fast that it exceeded the limits of what an ordinary person's eyes could track.

Xu Lai simply smiled, exchanged a few pleasantries with them, and then left. As for Shang Er, who was once again unconscious in the artificial lake, he was completely ignored. He had ignored him last time. He was ignoring him this time. And he would probably ignore him next time, too.

By the time Xu Lai was back in his office drinking tea and reading a geography magazine, Shang Er was groggily waking up. He looked at the familiar surroundings, utterly lost. Wasn't he just crouching by the school gate? How did he end up lying here?

Dammit, did I lose my memory again?!

Clutching his throbbing head, Shang Er felt he was on the verge of a breakdown. What on earth had happened? He couldn't have just fainted here for no reason. Moreover, the Dao foundation he had worked so hard to stabilize was showing signs of collapsing again!

"WOOF, WOOF, WOOF."

The sound of barking made Shang Er's expression stiffen. He turned his head, and his scalp prickled with terror. It was the alpha of the stray dogs here! A few days ago, the heavily injured Shang Er had suffered the ultimate humiliation when this damn dog had lifted its leg and pissed all over his face. Now, not only was it back, but it was lifting its hind leg again…

The all-too-familiar sight made Shang Er scream in horror, "NO!!!"

* * *

"Hey, did you guys hear that?" inside the school infirmary, Liu Nanwei muttered. "I think I heard a man yelling 'no'."

"That must have been your husband, Li Mi," Zhou Feng said earnestly. "Young people need to take care of their bodies, you know. You can't just chase momentary pleasures."

Liu Nanwei was speechless. ???

Today of all days, she had actively restrained her usual instincts and hadn't told a single risqué joke. And here was Zhou Feng, getting this crude right to her face?

This virgin is getting cocky!

Liu Nanwei huffed, "Dr. Zhou, let me set you up with a girlfriend. I have a good friend who, despite being a bit proud, would be a great match for you. If you put in some effort, maybe you could be a father by this time next year."

Zhou Feng shook his head and said calmly, "You can work hard at anything except love. For that, you just have to wait for fate."

"..."

Never mind Liu Nanwei, even Xu Lai looked over at Zhou Feng with surprise. Is Zhou Feng a playboy at heart? You couldn't say something like that without at least a decade of playboy experience, especially not with that world-weary gaze of his.

"COUGH, COUGH." Zhou Feng's face flushed. "That's… that's what Lu An said to Ke Ji when I went to the Go club yesterday…"

Lu An was the president of Dongli University's Go club, and Ke Ji was currently Hua Country's number one Go player, a young prodigy. Xu Lai had already seen that the fates of Lu An and Ke Ji were intertwined within their Go spirits. He had even given fate a little push, telling Ke Ji—who had wanted to learn Go from him—to seek out Lu An for a match in a year's time. That one match had truly forged a lifelong connection.

So, Xu Lai chuckled and said, "Those two will get together in ten days at most, or maybe even in a single day."

Fate was such a mysterious and profound thing. If Xu Lai had never come to Earth, and had never produced those Go manuals to help his sister-in-law Ruan Lan improve her skills, Lu An and Ke Ji would never have crossed paths. Two lines that seemed to have their own tracks but were destined to run parallel were now connected by a series of chaotic little points. Destiny was truly marvelous.

"Uh," Zhou Feng said hesitantly. "That can't be right? Lu An rejected Ke Ji just yesterday…"

The words had barely left his mouth when his phone vibrated. As a follower of a certain Go app, Zhou Feng received a push notification. The title was simple and direct:

[SHOCKING: GO PRODIGY AND MYSTERIOUS GIRL SPOTTED AT CIVIL AFFAIRS BUREAU, SUSPECTED OF REGISTERING MARRIAGE!]

"..."

Zhou Feng's mind filled with question marks. "Huh?"

He looked at Xu Lai in utter shock. "Director Xu, are your words prophetic or something? That's uncannily accurate!"

Xu Lai just smiled and glanced casually at Zhou Feng's pillar of fate, his brow furrowing slightly. "You should be careful when you leave work."

Within the pillar, a wisp of dark mist indicated an impending accident that would draw blood, though it wasn't anything major or life-threatening.

The warning made Zhou Feng nervous. "Okay, okay, I'll definitely be careful."

Liu Nanwei's interest was piqued. "Director Xu, take a look at mine, please! I feel like my luck has gotten incredibly good ever since I met you."

Xu Lai glanced over. Two months ago, Liu Nanwei's pillar of fate had been unremarkable, her future full of obstacles. Now, those obstacles had vanished. Her white pillar of fate was dazzling compared to an ordinary person's, and it even held a faint trace of purple qi, which signified a future of great wealth and honor.

Liu Nanwei's feeling was correct. She, along with Zhou Feng and Lu An, had all had their futures changed. They had encountered their so-called benefactor.
