Invincible Dad

Chapter 141 I'm Having a Tough Time_1

Xu Lai hadn't expected this. When he came to pick up his daughter, he encountered such a large sea serpent, and its Boundary was far stronger than Beibei's by more than just a little.

It must be much more delicious to eat than a sea snail! Seventy-seven ways to cook a sea serpent instantly sprang to mind. The Seventh Divine General most highly recommended 'Spicy Snake' and 'Snake Gruel,' and it was no exaggeration to call them the most exquisite delicacies on Earth.

"Hey, brother-in-law, why is there someone lying over there?" Ruan Lan asked in a hushed voice, having spotted Tan Chang. "Should we call the police or an ambulance?"

"No need."

Xu Lai glanced over before looking away, sending a thread of Spiritual Energy into the unconscious and dying Tan Chang's body. He had already healed Tan Chang's injuries; he would wake up in an hour or two at most. Xu Lai was in no mood to bother with why Tan Chang was battling a Sea Demon. He had more important things to do.

"Daddy."

Xu Yiyi spread her arms and rushed toward Xu Lai. She was even happier when she saw Ruan Lan. "Auntie!"

"Let's go. Your auntie keeps her word. If she said she'd buy you a pet rabbit, she definitely will," Ruan Lan said with a smile.

The three of them got in the car and drove away.

Far in the distance, a figure shrouded in a black robe stood atop a building. A breeze lifted a corner of the robe, revealing that the face beneath was not human, but that of a fox.

It was Hu Li, She Jiu's senior brother, and his face was now filled with terror.

Terrifying. That human was simply too terrifying!

Having spent a hundred years with She Jiu, it knew its junior brother's strength very well. Even when facing a powerhouse of the Human Race at the Divine Gate Realm, his junior brother wouldn't have been defeated so quickly. He had been knocked unconscious by that man's kick before he could even use his Innate Divine Ability or his trump cards.

That one kick... was that terrifying!

GULP.

Hu Li swallowed nervously, a wave of panic washing over him. Before coming to Hua Country, their master had warned him and She Jiu that Hua Country was vast and filled with numerous powerhouses, and that they should never be underestimated. But after crushing everyone in their path, She Jiu and Hu Li had both thought their master was exaggerating. They never expected it to be true.

Should I run or save my junior brother?

Hu Li was caught in a dilemma. After a moment of thought, he decided to retreat for now. Although he was a Great Demon of great renown, Xu Lai was clearly an absolute powerhouse. It was better to avoid a direct confrontation and investigate further before making a move.

However, Hu Li had learned two names—

Xu Yiyi.

Flower Fairy.

...

「In the pet shop.」

The atmosphere was tense because the shop still had no pet rabbits in stock.

Ruan Lan looked at her good friend, who worked part-time at the shop, and clasped her hands together. "Are you sure there are no rabbits? White or black would be fine."

"Ruan Lan, why would I lie to you?" her friend replied with a wry smile. "There were three this afternoon that I wanted to save for you, but we found out they were sick and sent them to the pet hospital."

"All right then." Ruan Lan squatted down and looked apologetically at her niece. "Yiyi, I'm so sorry."

Xu Yiyi shook her head. "Auntie, you don't need to apologize. It's not your fault there are no bunnies."

"How about we check some other pet stores?" Ruan Lan suggested.

"No need," Xu Yiyi said obediently. "We can just come back next time."

Ruan Lan felt even guiltier. She again urged her friend to notify her as soon as any pet rabbits came in.

On the way home, Xu Yiyi sat in the back seat, staring blankly out the window, lost in thought.

Xu Lai raised an eyebrow and sent a Divine Sense to Taotie, who was billions upon billions of light-years away.

「In the Heavenly Court.」

Taotie's eyes were ringed with black. He hadn't rested once since Xu Lai had left the Heavenly Court, having been constantly dealing with matters of governance. Though he was so tired he could barely keep his eyes open, he remained steadfast at his post.

There was no other way. The Heavenly Court ruled over the Four Immortal Domains of the east, west, south, and north. Beneath those Immortal Domains were countless star systems, and all of these affairs required his attention. To make matters worse, the Heavenly Court's chief strategist, Baize, disliked handling administrative duties. Unless summoned by The Supreme Emperor, he spent all his days in his cave dwelling studying game strategies.

This is too much for me. Taotie covered his face with his hands, nearly sobbing. I'm just a bruiser. I'm good at fighting and killing, but making me manage the billions of races and various Tao Lineages across the Universe is sheer torture.

"Go, summon the Second Divine General at once," Taotie shouted to his subordinate. "Tell her I can't hold on any longer and need her help."

"This..." The Heavenly Soldier clad in golden armor hesitated. "Divine General Baize has recently claimed to be ill and isn't leaving his residence. It wouldn't be appropriate for me to disturb him."

Taotie was bewildered. Someone at the pinnacle of the Immortal Venerable Realm can get sick? Do you take me for a three-year-old?

Just as Taotie was about to scold his subordinate, Xu Lai's voice echoed in his ear.

Taotie trembled with delight. "The Supreme Emperor has sent a Divine Sense!"

WHOOSH!

The golden-armored Heavenly Soldier instantly straightened up, his expression becoming solemn. He watched as the First Divine General spoke with a strange look on his face.

"The Supreme Emperor needs one black rabbit and one white rabbit as pets for Princess Yiyi."

"I'll find them right away!" the golden-armored Heavenly Soldier declared earnestly.

"Let me go. You have a more important task."

Taotie patted the Heavenly Soldier on the shoulder. The soldier knelt on one knee and said in a solemn voice, "Is Divine General Taotie asking me to quell the rebellion in the Western Immortal Domain?"

"No."

"Could it be that the restrictive formations in the forbidden lands of the Northern Immortal Domain are damaged and need to be repaired with Immortal Stones?"

"Not that either."

As the golden-armored Heavenly Soldier stared in confusion, Taotie spoke in a profound and heartfelt tone, "For now, you will stand guard here in my place."

"..."

The Heavenly Soldier was dumbfounded. I'm supposed to stand guard here?

"Divine General Taotie, wait..."

Before he could finish, Taotie had vanished.

...

The neon lights of East Sea City shimmered in the night. The atmosphere in Haitang Court was full of joy. Ruan Tang, Ruan Lan, and Xu Yiyi were in the backyard, soaking in the hot spring, splashing each other, and filling the air with peals of laughter.

Xu Lai didn't get in the water. He sensed a familiar demonic aura rapidly approaching. It was the Sea Demon, Beibei.

She appeared in Haitang Court, carrying a conch shell on her back and panting heavily.

Xu Lai was a little surprised. This little Sea Demon returned so quickly. By my calculations, that journey should have taken at least two days.

Beibei's small face was flushed with anger as she glared fiercely at Xu Lai. "Damn you! I'm the number one swordswoman in this stretch of the sea! How dare you..."

Xu Lai said nothing, merely lifting his foot.

The sight terrified her into silence. "Don't kick me! If you kick me again, I'll get serious!"

Beibei felt incredibly wronged. After being kicked by Xu Lai, she had found herself in an unfamiliar part of the sea, where she was nearly eaten by other terrifying Sea Demons. She had to use every life-saving trick she knew just to escape. To return to the East Sea as quickly as possible, she flew across the sea at the great cost of her cultivation level, managing to make it back in just over a dozen hours. After all, she still had an enemy to deal with here.

Who would have thought he'd be so outrageous as to try and kick me again? He's utterly inhuman!

"Oh, right. Do you know this snake? If not, I'm going to eat it."

Xu Lai tossed the sea serpent from his Storage Space onto the ground.

The Sea Demon Beibei's eyes widened.

Isn't that She Jiu?!
