The remaining three spiders coordinated. They turned their rears at Reidar's army, and their spinnerets fired in unison, creating a web barrier between them and Reidar's forces that connected from a side of the street to the other.
The webbing blocked line of sight. The Rift-Sprites' fire attacks started burning the sticky substance, but didn't reach the spiders.
Reidar frowned. He couldn't let them escape and used Root Grasp to prevent the monsters from leaving the area.
Restraining them became a ghastly affair, which drained Reidar's mana while his contuberniums took care of the web. In the end, the gloom-web burned, and Reidar's summoned creatures reached the beasts.
The spiders broke formation, forced to defend from multiple angles. The Rift-Sprites themselves resumed their barrage. Ice froze one spider's joints. Fire melted through another's carapace. Stone shattered the third's mandibles.
Lena moved in; she rolled under one of the creatures, coming up inside its guard to plunge both blades into its eyes. She was strong, so she pierced deep enough for the beast to die.

Three down.
Two remaining.
The last two spiders tried to flee again. They scrambled up the nearest building trying to scale it, but Reidar was not going to let that happen. He used Root Grasp again, and then the Rift-sprites did their job.
Lightning hit first, snapping between the spiders and locking their legs mid-run. Fire swept over their bodies, wrapping around their abdomens. Ice shards then punched through their carapaces.
They fell, crashing back to the street. The spectral knights were waiting. Swords fell like guillotines, severing legs and mandibles.
The spiders thrashed, but it was over. Lena delivered the killing blows, her daggers finding hearts through shattered carapace.
\[Gloom-Web Arachnid—level 112—defeated.\]
\[Gloom-Web Arachnid—level 115—defeated.\]
Silence fell over the street. Reidar dismissed his summons, letting the spectral knights and Rift-Sprites fade. The primal pack remained as they were acting as mounts.
Jake stumbled, catching himself against a wall. His face was pale, sweat dripping down his face. His trait had drained him.
Lena appeared beside the boy, steadying him.
"You did well, Jake."
The boy nodded, too tired to speak.
"You need to increase your A.C.U.M.E.N., it will give you more mana," Reidar said.
The kid nodded and said nothing else. Lena then gave him a water bottle. Jake didn't even know an inventory existed before Reidar showed it to him. While he drank, Reidar checked his status.

<I got no new skills from The First Killer title.>
That was a shame, but the title activated with a very low chance. One of the reasons Reidar increased his F.L.I.P. was to make it so that the title would trigger more often.
<I guess it's not enough, right?>
He sighed.
<The situation is really bad.>
There was a reason Reidar only summoned 103 creatures, and that was that as soon as he summoned more, their combined weight sent tremors through the ground that attracted every monster for miles. With just him and Lena to fight, avoiding them was hard enough. With a horde? It'd be a suicide run.
"How far are we?" Reidar asked as he scanned the crumbling rooftops.
Jake pointed a finger toward the city's heart. "We are almost in their territory now. The old theater is just past those crumbling buildings." He hesitated, glancing at the carnage they'd just created, something he never expected to be able to do.
"But the way's thick with more of them. I-I think the Dread-Spinners are there already."
Lena swiped spider goo from her cheek. "This translate on how many blocks?" she asked Reidar, her eyes focusing on his map.
"A few more," he said, studying the city layout as the Vorathid Foragers expanded it. Lena's gaze hardened. "Enemies?"
Reidar gave her a serious look.
"The Dread-Spinners, as Jake said. I'm not sure they are the ones, though. I can only tell my scouts are getting killed left and right, and if what Jake explained is true, only the Dread-Spinners can be the culprits."
He turned to him. "Can you give us a description?"
"Y-you'll know them when you see 'em, b-but they are basically bigger, blacker, and u-uglier, sir."
"Just call me Reidar."
The kid nodded.
Reidar saw the map in his mind, the path Jake showed. He was not sure that heading there right now was the best choice. He wanted to level up more before trying their luck against such strong monsters.
Though making more summons would work nonetheless. The problem was that at that point; he knew that would attract other monsters, and that meant their group might end up having to fight against the Arachnids and the countless other species hiding inside the city.
"Alright," Reidar said. "We are not going to push yet. Let's kill more of the weak bastards and then, when we have leveled up enough, we will test our F.L.I.P." He turned to Jake. "You know a place where we might be able to find more of them?"
Jake's eyes darted, thinking. He nodded. "We should go there," he said, pointing east.
"Perfect."
