Chapter 71: Heartbreaker arc- end of trials

Li Ming slowly opened his eyes.

He was lying on the soft training mats of the Azure Sky Sect's courtyard, sunlight streaming down, warm and strangely comforting after the chaos of the void.

Bai Guo flapped down beside him, feathers ruffled. "Descendant… you're… awake. And alive. Somehow."

Li Ming rubbed his head, blinking at the familiar scenery. Teacups, buns, and shadow clones had vanished. For the first time in days, he felt… normal. Well, as normal as he ever felt.

"Normal?" he muttered, flexing his fingers. His Qi hummed pleasantly, smooth and steady. "I feel… stronger. More balanced. Maybe even… wise?"

Bai Guo blinked. "Wise? Descendant… are you sure you're not just… delusional from all the chaos?"

Li Ming grinned. "Maybe a little. But chaos teaches lessons… whether you like it or not."

He stood up, taking in the courtyard. Fellow disciples were around, some staring, some whispering. A few were still recovering from the Heartbreaker trials. Li Ming noticed it all with a small smile. He had been through humiliation, fear, and overwhelming challenges… and had survived. Not just survived, but grown.

Bai Guo flapped excitedly. "Descendant! Look at you! You actually… leveled up! I can feel it! Your cultivation… it's different now!"

Li Ming chuckled. "Yeah… I guess the Heartbreaker Arc wasn't just about surviving shadows and teacups. It was about me… learning to handle chaos without panicking, without losing control… and maybe even using a little humor to keep my sanity."

Bai Guo squawked. "Descendant… humor is… terrifying when combined with your power. Please don't get ideas."

Li Ming laughed, brushing imaginary dust off his robes. "Relax, Bai Guo. Chaos is an art, and I've mastered the basics… at least for now."

As he looked around, the headmaster and several elders approached. Their expressions were unreadable, as always, but Li Ming could sense approval.

"You've completed the Heartbreaker trials, Li Ming," the headmaster said, voice calm but commanding. "Few have faced what you did… and fewer have grown from it. You have learned control, patience, and the balance of power. Your cultivation and spirit have strengthened immensely."

Li Ming bowed slightly. "Thank you, Headmaster. I… I feel… different. Stronger, more focused. And… hopefully… less prone to accidents."

Bai Guo snorted. "Descendant… don't jinx it. Accidents are your brand now."

Li Ming laughed softly. "Maybe. But at least now, I know how to turn them into an advantage."

The courtyard buzzed with whispers. Fellow disciples, once arrogant and prideful, now looked at him with a mix of respect and awe. Li Ming realized something important: growth wasn't just about strength. It was about facing fear, embracing challenges, and… surviving humiliation with style.

He glanced at Bai Guo. "We did it… chaos and all. The Heartbreaker Arc is officially over."

Bai Guo flapped his wings proudly. "Descendant… we survived… and you actually grew! Amazing!"

Li Ming grinned. "Yeah… I feel different. Not just stronger, but… calmer. Smarter. Maybe even… ready for the next ridiculous challenge."

Just then, a familiar voice called out from the training hall.

"Li Ming!"

Lan Yue appeared, walking toward him gracefully. Her calm aura was sharp as ever, but her eyes had a spark of mischief.

Li Ming raised an eyebrow. "Lan Yue… did I… pass? Did I… you know… prove myself?"

Lan Yue nodded. "Yes. You've grown a lot. The Heartbreaker trials were meant to test your spirit, and you succeeded… though, in your own chaotic style."

Li Ming smirked. "Chaotic style… that's me in a nutshell."

Lan Yue's expression shifted slightly. "But now… there's something important you must do for the next mission."

Li Ming tilted his head. "Next mission? After all that chaos and shadows… what could be next?"

Lan Yue's lips curved into a faint smile. "It requires… a change in appearance."

Li Ming's stomach sank slightly. "Change in appearance? What kind of change?"

Lan Yue's eyes glinted. "You will need to… dress as a girl for this mission."

Li Ming's jaw practically dropped. "WHAT?! D-dress as a girl?! Are you serious?!"

Bai Guo flapped wildly, nearly colliding with Li Ming. "Descendant… this can't be real! Are we… are we doomed?!"

Lan Yue's gaze remained calm. "It is necessary. Trust me. Your success depends on it."

Li Ming groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Of course. Chaos, shadows, buns, and now… fashion disasters. Why am I never surprised?"

Bai Guo muttered, "Descendant… I think this is worse than the Heartbreaker Arc itself."

Li Ming sighed, looking at the distant horizon. "Well… if comedy, chaos, and disguises can help save the day… I guess I better start… practicing gracefully."

And with that, a new adventure—and a ridiculous new challenge—was about to begin.

----

Li Ming stood in front of the mirror in the sect's training room, staring at the outfit Lan Yue had handed him. His eyes widened.

"This… this is… a girl's dress?" he whispered. The fabric was soft, flowing, and adorned with ribbons and delicate patterns. "Lan Yue… you're seriously asking me to wear this?!"

Bai Guo flapped anxiously above his head. "Descendant… are you insane?! This is worse than any shadow clone, teacup, or flying bun attack we've faced!"

Li Ming pinched the bridge of his nose. "Bai Guo… if I survive this, I swear I'm writing a rulebook: How to Survive Cross-Dressing Missions Without Losing Your Pride."

Lan Yue's calm voice echoed from the doorway. "Li Ming, focus. Your disguise is essential. The success of this mission depends on it. Blend in, gather information, and don't draw attention to yourself."

Li Ming muttered, "Blend in… in this?" He twirled awkwardly. The dress swished around him comically, and he nearly tripped over his own feet. "Oh… yes… I'm very inconspicuous. No one will notice me… except everyone."

Bai Guo groaned. "Descendant… I can't even watch. My feathers are trembling for you."

Li Ming squared his shoulders. "Fine. If destiny, chaos, and Lan Yue command it… I will endure. For the mission… and maybe for my pride. Slightly."

The next few minutes were a disaster. Li Ming tried to walk gracefully, but every step made him wobble like a newborn fawn. His hair, which Lan Yue had insisted on styling, kept falling into his face. Every time he tried to fix it, he tripped over the hem of the dress.

Bai Guo muttered, "Descendant… if we survive this… it'll be a miracle."

Finally, Lan Yue returned, arms crossed, her expression unreadable. "Enough delay. You're ready. Remember, confidence is key. No one suspects what they cannot believe."

Li Ming took a deep breath. "Confidence… right. I can do this. I am… graceful… definitely graceful."

He stepped out of the room, and the other disciples' jaws dropped. A few gasped, some whispered, and one even fainted.

Bai Guo flapped behind him nervously. "Descendant… maybe try… subtlety?"

Li Ming nodded, adopting a haughty, elegant posture. "Subtle… yes… subtle chaos. That's me."

Lan Yue stepped closer. "The mission is delicate. A high-level spy has infiltrated a nearby sect, and you need to blend in to gather information. Your disguise must be perfect."

Li Ming's eyes widened. "Wait… spy work? In this… outfit?!"

Lan Yue didn't answer, only nodded. "Move quickly. Time is limited."

Li Ming groaned internally but marched forward, trying to look inconspicuous while secretly worrying he looked like a floating rainbow disaster.

Along the way, he encountered a few curious disciples, each staring a little too long. He waved awkwardly, nearly tripping over a ribbon.

Bai Guo muttered, "Descendant… maybe don't smile too much. You're… attracting attention."

Li Ming sighed. "Great. Chaos plus attention equals disaster… again."

Finally, he reached the edge of the sect. Lan Yue appeared beside him briefly, whispering, "Stay focused. The next steps will require courage… and subtlety."

Li Ming nodded. "Subtlety… yes. Chaos disguised as elegance. Got it."

Bai Guo flapped in a panic. "Descendant… I really don't like this. This is the worst plan yet!"

Li Ming whispered back, "Trust me, Bai Guo… it's the perfect mix of chaos and strategy… mostly chaos."

Just as he stepped out of the safety of the sect, a voice rang from the shadows:

> "So… the legendary Li Ming, disguised as a girl… very interesting indeed."

Li Ming froze. The figure emerging from the shadows had an aura that sent a chill down his spine.

Bai Guo flapped frantically. "Descendant… that voice… it's not friendly. Not friendly at all!"

Li Ming's heart skipped a beat. "Great… a spy… in the middle of my first cross-dressing mission… this day keeps getting better!"

The figure stepped closer, revealing a sly grin. Lan Yue's words echoed in his mind: courage… and subtlety.

Li Ming squared his shoulders, gripping his sword hidden beneath the dress. "Alright… chaos is power… let's see if subtle chaos works."

And then… the figure laughed, a low, chilling sound, and said:

> "You have no idea what's waiting for you next, Li Ming."
