Reith rushed for his PhoneI 11 and quickly unlocked it.
Ignoring the fact that his entire body wanted him to fall asleep, he quickly went to his calls and messages.
"Wait, no one called me?"
His shoulders sagged, and a cloud of disappointment floated over his head.
"Argh. So what was buzzing so loudly?" Reith groaned softly, and then it clicked.
"Oh, the alarm," he said, and before he even knew what was happening, his legs subconsciously moved him to the bed, and he collapsed.
Tiredness seeped through him, and he went completely out.
The next morning, Reith stepped out of his room and went to his class.
Opening the door, he realized that everywhere was completely empty.
"What's happening?" He frowned and went all the way to Ms. Susan's office.
He was about to knock when the door opened by itself and Susan stepped out.
"Hello Reith, how may I help you today?" Susan said with a small smile.
"Good day, Miss. I wanted to ask if there was anything going on in school. There's no one in the classroom," he asked.
Susan raised her brows slightly, and then she continued walking. "Oh?" She paused.
Reith had no choice but to follow her.
"In two weeks, the Final Selection will begin. Everyone is preparing for that, and the Regional Insignia gave us all permission to take the time to prepare," Susan replied to her student.
She didn't want to address it, but even she had sensed his growth.
Although she was unable to pinpoint where he had actually grown, there was a sharpness in his eyes.
"Why is everything happening so fast?" Reith felt quite confused and couldn't help but voice his reservations out loud.
Susan understood him and nodded in response. "It's the question on our lips too, but we are led to believe that the Regional Insignia has his reasons," she said as they walked through the hallway and passed corners.
There was a man in front of them, but he looked rather nonchalant as he relaxed on the pillar of the building with a lollipop in his mouth.
"It should be as a result of the last incident also. The Regional Insignia must be preparing the city," Susan completed her words as they passed the man.
"The Regional Insignia, my foot."
A bitter voice spoke behind them, causing them to turn back.
"Darrion." Susan hissed as she turned to face the man.
Reith could sense his teacher's dislike for the man, and it was possibly the reason why she had ignored him when they first passed.
"Susan." The man responded with a crooked smile.
Reith looked down and noted the way Susan tightly clenched her fists. There had to be some low-key beef between these two people.
"Don't you call my name with that filthy thing you call a mouth, especially when you just defiled the name of the Regional Insignia!"
Darrion stepped closer with a sneer, his condescending gaze showing that he didn't care one bit about what this lady was saying and her blabbering talk about the Regional Insignia.
"That man doesn't deserve an inch of my respect. If he had done his job well, no one would be dead." Darrion uttered, his lips twisted in a sharp snarl.
"Mind your tongue. You have no business rating how the Regional Insignia does his job if you haven't been in his shoes yourself," Susan said, taking a step forward and blocking Reith from the man's gaze.
It was as if she thought Reith would be corrupted by a mere look at this man.
"Tch. It doesn't matter if I have been in his shoes or not. What matters is the result he brought. Felix would have been alive if that shorty had not been so careless."
Susan lashed out instantly. "You take back your word! The Regional Insignia tried his best."
Reith shifted closer to the corner. If a fight broke out, he wouldn't want to get caught up between these two powerhouses.
But something stuck out to him. Darrion knew Felix, and from his anger, they must have been close.
"He tried his best?" Darrion scoffed, throwing his hands in the air.
"I told that man not to go for that meeting. I told him something wasn't right, but what did he say? That I was worrying too much."
Darrion shot a finger forward, stabbing in Susan's direction.
Even Susan felt a hint of his pain, but since the both of them had never seen eye to eye, she wasn't going to start now.
Unable to make a comeback, she gritted her teeth and turned around, grabbing Reith by the wrist.
"Let's go before he contaminates your ears with his treasonous words," Susan snarled and headed straight for the exit door.
Reith was speechless, but he quickly turned around and gave an apologetic look to Darrion, hoping the man could understand him.
They left the hallway.
Darrion growled and turned his own way. That kid was making an annoying face at him, just like everyone else.
If only these people listened to him. He knew his instincts were never wrong.
"I should have followed him." Darrion sighed as he stood in front of his vehicle.
Then he shook his head. Regret wasn't the thing to do now.
What had happened had happened.
The next point of action was revenge.
A boiling hot plate of revenge, and he would find the people who caused the death of his younger brother.
Meanwhile, Susan took Reith to the cultivation room and pointed to the door.
"While the teachers prepare for the tournament, most of the students are here, like they should be." She narrowed her eyes at Reith, causing him to swallow.
The interaction with that man must have ruined her mood greatly.
"So no classes. Just spend your time cultivating, building towards every stage of your cultivation, strengthening your meridians and..." She paused, before bending down and taking a good look at the boy.
"I can tell you just learned a technique, but I don't know which it is. That's good. I'd love to see it soon. If you keep practicing at this rate, you'll be more than ready for the Final Selection."
Susan smiled, and before Reith could even say a 'thank you,' she had already walked away.
Reith stared at the door for a while and pondered on Susan's words.
The Final Selection.
If he was able to pass this round, he would move on to the main school and then a bigger environment, and maybe he could find his sister.
He had begged Mr. Lu to help him check the adventurer's record for a Reisa, so he was waiting for the news.
"I'd have to become an adventurer myself."
This was a new goal.
It wasn't easy to leave the academy on his own, and he knew it would be even harder at a bigger school.
Going to the main academy would mean that the Regional Insignia had accepted their strength to fight for their region.
Which meant they would be treated with more security, so he wouldn't be able to explore far into the territory of the beasts without permission.
"Trust you already have things planned, Father." Reith exhaled and stepped into the cultivation room.
Sometimes things overwhelmed him, and he felt alone, but he was grateful for Ruach.
Reith was a bit surprised by the crowd, but he chose a spot at the corner and took a seat.
The Hana here wasn't sufficient for him, so the best choice was to practice his technique until he fully mastered it.
Reith took a large breath, and by the time he opened his eyes, he found himself standing in the environment dimension.
